Chapter 157 Just how much does a race crave war to create such godlike machinery?
As the first Imperial landing craft tore through the sky above Dalis like a burning meteor, a piercing alarm instantly resounded throughout every corner of Gelbrin.
This once bustling city center now appears eerily deserted. Under the Tau Empire's efficient, almost ruthless, organization, over 95% of non-combat personnel had already been evacuated. Shop doors and windows were sealed with alloy plates, the once vibrant air corridors were empty, and only automated defense turrets slowly rotated atop buildings, their cold muzzles pointing towards the sky. In a very short time, the efficient Tau Empire had completely transformed this place into a pure battlefield where civilian casualties were no longer a concern.
The reason why the Tau Empire was able to complete such a large-scale mobilization and evacuation so quickly was largely due to an unexpected source of intelligence—the daughter of the traveling merchant Lucius.
She didn't die. After the failed assassination attempt, she was captured by the Tau Empire. During interrogation, she greatly exaggerated the strength of the expeditionary fleet, portraying this internally divided force as an invincible, united torrent. Her aim was simple: to deter the young race and prevent a pointless bloodbath.
The Tau Empire believed her, but they did not back down. On the contrary, this exaggerated threat acted as the most powerful catalyst, further strengthening the young race's resolve to mobilize all its resources and fight back against the invaders to the death.
At this moment, on the surface of Dalis, the already prepared Clan Air pilots rushed to their vehicles amidst the blaring alarms. Barracuda and Tigershark fighters roared out of the underground hangars, forming elegant yet deadly battle formations, heading straight for the human landing craft's path. The expeditionary fleet, naturally, responded without hesitation; a large number of Thunderbolt fighters belonging to the naval air force detached from their motherships, like a flock of bloodthirsty raptors, heading towards the Tau air force.
Just as the Air Clan pilots were adjusting their attitudes, preparing for the exhilarating, all-out aerial duel they had imagined, a piercing static suddenly erupted from the wide-area channel. Immediately afterward, a slightly distorted voice rang out:
"Hey, hey, hey, pilots of the Tau Empire's Gas Clan over there, can you hear me? This is the Death Squadron."
A Brethren pilot glanced instinctively at the communications panel and replied in surprise, "You speak our language?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the channel, followed by two bursts of laughter, and then a concise reply:
"FK Y!"
Before the words were even finished, the Chi Clan pilots were horrified to see the enemy aircraft's glowing spots on the radar suddenly accelerate. Those rugged, angular "Thunderbolt" fighters were charging straight towards their formation, seemingly eager to collide with the Tau Empire's aircraft!
This unprecedented and barbaric tactic instantly threw the Air Clan into disarray. The pilots were forced to perform emergency maneuvers, scattering in disarray to take cover. What was originally an elegant aerial display was turned into chaos the moment they made contact, by the enemy's unreasonable tactics.
The disoriented Air Clan pilot, after scrambling to climb and narrowly avoiding a head-on "Thunderbolt," finally roared angrily over the wide-area channel: "Have you wanted to die all along, or do you really believe that the primordial god you worship can grant you immortality!"
On the other end of the channel, the voice of the one going to his death was full of smugness: "Of course! With the Emperor's blessing, we are truly immortal!" This statement, which seemed self-evident to the players, was nothing short of the ravings of a madman to the Titans, who believed in the highest good and were proud of reason and science.
"Incomprehensible!" the Qi Clan pilot roared.
The man facing death retorted without hesitation, "I'll fuck your grandpa!"
The Qi Clan has always been known in the Tau Empire for their agility, elegance, and thoughtfulness, but that doesn't mean they're without temper. What soldier doesn't have a violent side? The repeated provocations and the opponent's unreasonable tactics completely ignited the fury of these blue-skinned elites. The next moment, a series of rapid, shrill syllables burst from their communicators—a vulgar, fierce Tau dialect, filled with biological contempt and vicious curses against the opponent's ancestors.
Those who went to their deaths were naturally not to be outdone. They were a group of people who loved to stir up trouble, and verbal battles were an instinct ingrained in their genes. In an instant, human profanities and the dialects and insults of the Tau race intertwined in the wide-area channels of both sides, and were converted by the system into the most vicious words that both sides could understand, frantically flooding everyone's minds.
Clearly, these players from Earth have successfully opened up a completely new front in addition to the three traditional battlefronts of the atmosphere, land, and space. On this front of "mental pollution," they are waging a fierce battle against the Tau aliens with an unyielding and high-spirited attitude.
In this chaotic aerial arena and battlefield of mental pollution, the sky... suddenly darkened.
It wasn't dark clouds obscuring the sun; rather, several enormous shadows, the size of mountain ranges, tore through the atmosphere of Darlis, descending with unstoppable force. They crashed heavily onto the landing site on the east coast with an imposing presence.
The shocking scene left most of the Air Clan pilots, who had been passionately exchanging insults with the players, speechless. The intense Tau dialect in the communication channel abruptly stopped, leaving only the continued profanities from the human side. One of the Air Clan pilots screamed, "Shangshangshandao! What is that?!"
Since they had already gone all in, the expeditionary fleet naturally decided from the very beginning to reveal its trump card—the Tanatalis Titan Legion, consisting of a total of one "General-class", six "Warhound-class", and six "Raider-class" Titan Machines.
With each step these walking divine machines took, the entire continental shelf seemed to groan in agony, as if it were about to collapse under their strain. The violent tremors, like an earthquake, were even clearly transmitted to the skies tens of thousands of meters above, causing the Tau Empire's warplanes to shudder slightly. This apocalyptic scene even made the Air Clan pilots forget to respond to the incessant chatter of the doomed ones on the wide-area channel.
It wasn't just them. Through the probes scattered across the battlefield, the command post far behind, and indeed all the Tau people on the entire planet Darlis, witnessed this horrifying scene. Whether it was the Earth Clan engineers, the Fire Clan warriors, or the Air Clan pilots in the air, none of them could fathom how much a race craved war to create such a machine.
