I summoned the Fourth Scourge in Warhammer
Chapter 52! It got out of control.
Chapter 52! It got out of control.
The tragic scene at the front and the players' cries of agony were quickly reported to Ruan Wenbo.
He remained calm, as if everything was under control. He first sent someone to fetch the previous scouts—Name and Moth.
"Why didn't you report on the enemy's positions during the reconnaissance?" Nguyen Van Bo's tone was calm, without the slightest hint of blame.
The two scouts exchanged glances, looking somewhat aggrieved. The player with the name on his head spoke first, explaining, "Company Commander, when we went there before, we didn't see any positions at all! It was just an empty processing area. We did see the trench and firing wall, but since there were no fortifications around, we assumed it was just a steep slope used to dump waste, and didn't think much of it..."
Ruan Wenbo nodded, his expression becoming much more relaxed: "That means the enemy's position was temporarily set up, not even a semi-permanent fortification. That makes things simpler, otherwise I really wouldn't know how to fight them."
The child asked curiously, "Then how do we play?"
A slight smile appeared on Ruan Wenbo's lips, his eyes gleaming with the light of a tactician: "It's very simple: infantry-artillery coordination, barrage advancing slowly."
"Infantry-artillery coordination?" Moth exclaimed in surprise. "Isn't that too advanced for us at this stage? We haven't even had basic coordination training. Shouldn't we at least find some time to practice it?"
“Who said we need proper infantry-artillery coordination?” Ruan Wenbo retorted, his words carrying an air of self-righteousness. “In fact, for us players, all we need to do is keep the infantry charging and the artillery firing. As for how many people are killed by our own artillery fire… that’s not important, as long as we ultimately achieve victory, that’s enough.”
He paused for a moment, then added, "Besides, real combat is the best training, isn't it?"
"Hiss..." Moth gasped, shocked by the company commander's hardcore approach of treating human life like dirt. But upon reflection, he realized it was absolutely right, since they could be resurrected anyway. "It seems... it really is?"
"Since there are no objections, then carry out the order." Ruan Wenbo waved his hand, ending the conversation.
On the other side, in the rear of the company, a Chimera Mirage Suppressor was parked quietly. The fourth squad of the Death Squad was responsible for operating this only indirect fire support artillery piece in the company.
The squad leader of the fourth squad received Nguyen Van Bo's order verbatim via walkie-talkie. He turned off the communication and said to the gunner and loader beside him, "Hey guys, we've got a job. In twenty minutes, launch a continuous barrage on the enemy's position at its coordinates. Unless there are new orders, keep firing."
The gunner's eyes lit up when he heard this: "Holy crap, this is awesome? The company commander really doesn't want any merit points? These shells aren't cheap."
"The merits earned through fighting are truly yours," the squad leader understood perfectly. "If you cower in fear and dare not fight, and fail to complete the mission, then you will truly have no merits at all."
He patted the gunner on the shoulder: "Think about it, the real credit in this game comes from completing missions, and that won't be reduced because of the number of players. While the credits from killing enemies are also considerable overall, there are over a hundred people competing with us for them."
"That makes sense," the gunner thought, feeling like his brain had gotten a little fuzzy. "Anyway, let's prepare to fire!"
He started rummaging around inside the gun carriage: "Hmm, where did those guys from the fifth squad put the firing table again?"
"Look for it, I remember it was supposed to be in the storage compartment on the left," the loader reminded him.
The gunner rummaged around for a moment and, sure enough, pulled out a rolled-up parchment covered in corrections from the storage compartment. But as soon as he held it in his hand, an expression of utter astonishment crossed his face.
“…Class monitor, you need to take a look at this.”
"What, did the shooting watch get gnawed by a rat?" The squad leader turned around impatiently, his gaze falling on the shooting watch. Then, his expression froze. "...Holy crap?"
A pale blue information panel emerged from the tattered parchment:
【Title: Hand-drawn Shooting Tables of the Death Squad】
[Type: Tool]
[Quality: Common] [Attributes: None]
[Special Effect: Accurately marks the landing point of any curved weapon.]
[Equipment conditions: None]
[Note: After being handled by various platoons of the suicide squad and frequently revised based on actual combat experience, this firing table has finally become accurate.]
"What's going on?" The squad leader was shocked. "When did this information panel appear?"
It's important to know that in this game, not everything gets an information panel. At the very least, it has to be a standard laser pistol or a complete set of bulletproof armor. Things like steel pipes or rocks picked up off the street won't even warrant an information panel from the system.
Moreover, this isn't just any ordinary tool; it has special effects! This means it has transcended the realm of ordinary objects!
"I don't know!" the gunner said innocently, holding up the firing table. "This is my first time on this vehicle, and the information panel popped up on its own as soon as I held it in my hand."
The squad leader quickly recovered from his shock, his eyes gleaming with elation: "I'll report this to the company commander immediately! Don't worry about it for now, continue preparing for the shelling!"
He grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, and excitedly patted the gunner on the back: "With this [tool], we're really going to rack up some amazing achievements this time!"
After the squad leader reported that the firing table had special effects, Ruan Wenbo only replied calmly, "Understood, prepare for shelling according to plan."
The twenty minutes of preparation time passed in the blink of an eye.
When the appointed time arrived, the wyvern suppressors in the rear positions roared. The muffled cannon fire tore through the noisy industrial din in the processing area, and high-explosive warheads, trailing arcs, accurately struck the Genestealer Cult's makeshift positions.
Ruan Wenbo stood at the entrance of the safe passage, holding up his binoculars, watching with satisfaction as the flames and smoke rose in the distance.
Thanks to that magical firing table, the fourth squad's artillery fire was incredibly accurate. Every shell seemed to have eyes, mercilessly landing in the enemy's positions. Those automatic gun emplacements and heavy weapon bunkers that posed a huge threat to the infantry were almost all targeted in the shelling, blown into twisted scrap metal and rubble.
From this perspective, this might be a perfect example of infantry-artillery coordination.
The players, who had been patiently waiting, could no longer contain themselves once the shelling began. Under the command of their squad leaders, they roared and charged out of the passage, across the open area that had once made it impossible for them to move an inch, and launched an assault on the enemy positions ravaged by artillery fire. They clearly intended to repay double for the fruitless attack and the indiscriminate slaughter they had suffered during their first assault.
As expected, after ten rounds of precise artillery fire, the Genestealer Cult's position was in ruins. Although the remaining cultists continued to fight back against the charging players, their firepower was much weaker than before. Many firing positions were either completely destroyed by direct hits from the shells or collapsed on their own in the violent explosions due to the inadequacy of their makeshift fortifications.
The players encountered almost no significant resistance and easily stormed the enemy lines, engaging in a bloody battle with the gene-stealers emerging from cover and ruins. Laser beams clashed with biological claws, and the roars of chainswords mingled with the screams of aliens.
The battle then entered the attrition warfare that players are most familiar with and adept at. With their fearless charges and the advantage of unlimited respawns, victory was already within their grasp.
Nguyen Van Bo calmly issued the next instructions over the walkie-talkie: "Fourth Platoon, extend your artillery position forward by one hundred meters and conduct barrage suppression. Friendly forces have already stormed the enemy's first line of defense."
A panicked shout immediately came from the other end of the walkie-talkie: "Oh no! I couldn't stop!"
Before the words were even finished, a familiar whistling sound of artillery shells rained down from the sky once more. Another barrage of fire from the wyverns struck the first position that the players had just captured, blasting the players and gene stealers who were engaged in a bloody battle with the enemy into the air. White light and blood and flesh flew together, creating a truly spectacular scene.
Ruan Wenbo was silent for a moment, then said in a completely emotionless voice, "...If other players criticize you later, I won't say a word for you."
