Chapter 56 Comrades
Pskov jumped out of the car, walked up to the guard, and handed him a cigarette and an officer's ID.

"Hi, Heimos!"

The guard took the cigarette, gave a comical salute to the officer's badge with "Black Eagle" printed on it, without even looking at it, and just awkwardly stuffed the cigarette into his mouth, lit it, and greedily inhaled.

Supplies were scarce at the front, especially in Rosa during winter... The permafrost and frost-prone periods were the most difficult times for the Prosen people.

"What did you just say happened up ahead?"

Only after watching the guard finish his first puff of cigarette did Pskov slowly ask his question.

"Hey, our 7th Division was originally besieging a few Rosa infantry regiments that were fighting like cornered beasts, and we were about to annihilate them when a Cossack cavalry suddenly appeared out of nowhere... They're all golden-eyed bastards, and they're tough to deal with."

The guard spoke haltingly until Chen Lai jumped off the tank and saw the "Skull Division" epaulets on the other side's shoulder. He was startled and threw away his cigarette butt.

“Don’t be afraid, continue.” Pskov looked at the guard with a somewhat serious expression.

"Yes... those Cossacks were formidable, but they couldn't withstand our 88mm cannons firing horizontally. Golden Eyes was almost dead in no time and fled into this forest in a panic."

"Of course, the division commander wouldn't let this opportunity pass, so he sent us in to search for people... But they somehow got hold of biochemical drugs and injected themselves with them, so they've become half-dead. If it were flat ground, it would be fine, but who can beat them in the forest?"

"Hmm, are you sure they're half-deadpools? Do they even have any sense left?"

"It's hard to say, sir. Anyway, this is what the people who came back said: they grew scales and keratin on their bodies, their hands turned into claws, and only their golden eyes still retained a trace of humanity."

"If you ask me, you should take a detour. Go north from here, circle around to the bridge, and you might even be able to capture a few scattered Rosa troops for military merit," the guard suggested, rubbing his arms as if he felt cold in the night.

"No need. We are the Emperor's Guard. We will not be intimidated by a few lowly assassins. Our honor is loyalty!"

Pskov acted very much like an arrogant Prossen senior officer, perfectly capturing the arrogance of someone who had won every battle.

"Of course, of course! The Panzer IV behind you must agree with you too. I can see seven or eight Iron Crosses on it!" The guard nodded hurriedly and let them pass without further obstruction.

"Pass! Pass!"

The barriers were raised, the anti-ramming fences were removed, and Pskov directed the armored units to advance ahead.

The commander of the 7th Division, who was at the command post, heard the commotion outside and came out to check the situation. He found that it was his own troops preparing to cross the forest, so he didn't pay much attention to it.

However, upon returning to command post, out of caution, he still asked, "What is the unit designation?"

"Sir, it's the Imperial Guard." The staff officer beside him had already learned the situation over the phone: "It's a motorized brigade under the Skeleton Division."

This sentence stunned Bren, the commander of the 7th Infantry Division, who then reached out to his staff officer.

“Send a telegram to Marshal Manstein: a Rosa army disguised as the Skull Division is about to cross the bridge.”

"Sir?" The staff officer asked, puzzled.

"Damn it, the Skeleton Division's subordinate units were all decimated during the last assault on Moscow and went back to Germania to recuperate. Where did this 'motorized brigade' come from?!"

"Moreover, how could a newly resupplyed armored platoon only have so few tanks? This is completely inconsistent with the 40th Division reorganization plan promulgated by His Majesty the Emperor."

"Hurry, notify our allies ahead, and make sure to eliminate this Rosa army before they cross the bridge!"

……

Chen Lai and Pskov, who had entered the forest, were unaware that they had been exposed and that a trap awaited them before they reached the bridge.

Come to think of it, when two huge countries are waging a full-scale war, there are countless unit numbers, and a division can command so many troops. Who would have thought that Manstein would only bring the "remnant" Totenkopf Division to the front lines?

"General Pskov, what's in this forest?"

Chen Lai hadn't understood what the Prossen guards had said, so he could only ask the general. "They said there are half-dead servants here, our Cossack troops."

"Cossacks? Aren't those cavalry units? Cavalry has been phased out these days, hasn't it?" Chen Lai asked again.

Pskov glanced at him: "Ordinary Cossacks have indeed been eliminated, but mixed-race Cossacks haven't. Their sabers can cut down tanks!"

"Cavalry cutting down tanks?" Chen Lai was startled, but then he thought of the dragon blood and the power of words in this world, and it seemed normal.

"What if they treat us as enemies?" Chen Lai asked with some concern. Although he had Junyan, he felt it was still not enough to deal with the Death Servants.

“No.” Pskov took out his ice axe again and tapped Chen Lai’s tank: “Menkov, come out, it’s your turn!”

Menkov, with his head wrapped in gauze, climbed out of the driver's cab, chuckled, and ran to the Opel troop carrier behind him to retrieve an accordion.

"This is?"

“His Words of Power, the Siren’s Song, can pull a person back from the brink of destruction, even if only for a very short time,” Pskov said softly.

"The Sirens are sea monsters in Greek mythology. Those who hear their songs will be drawn in and lost in the depths of the sea."

"Shouldn't the effect of this Word of Power be disorientation?" Chen Lai turned his head to look, but heard the rustling of leaves in his ears. He quickly turned back and gripped the gun in his hand.

In the dense forest, several pairs of claws clung tightly to the tree trunks, their faces showing fear, bewilderment, anger, and sorrow, as if all human emotions were being released on their faces.

They were on the verge of becoming Deadpools, and their only thought at that moment was to kill as many Prosen devils as possible before they fell into depravity.

"They're coming."

Pskov was somewhat saddened. He closed his eyes, his ice axe falling to the ground, with no intention of defending himself.

The leader, the half-dead servant "Ivan," is the only one left who retains self-awareness. His Word of Power is "Servant of the King," which can strengthen his companions.

Because of him, very few troops from Prosen's 7th Division managed to escape, but he knew he was also on the verge of being converted and might not survive until tomorrow.

His deep yellow golden eyes locked onto Pskov, and with a stretch of his long claws, the Dead Servants pounced out of the forest, causing a commotion among the ranks.

The villagers had never seen such a formation before. Deadpool and half-deadpool were concepts that existed only in Rosa Horror Stories before this war.

"Davari~"

Accompanied by the stirring melody of the accordion, Menkov spoke, his golden eyes lighting up at some point, the power of his words already in motion.

The long claws, carrying a strong gust of wind, stopped between Chen Lai's eyebrows. Only then did Chen Lai see their faces clearly. They were as young as him, and their bodies were covered with bullet holes and scars.

It doesn't hate itself, it hates the clothes it's wearing.

"Hey, the White Army is a flock of black crows~"

"They want to trample us under their feet—"

From the Anglo-Saxon coast to Siberia

"Hey, the Federation military is the strongest in the world!"

The singing grew louder and louder, and villagers, whether they understood the melody or not, could sing along. This song was widely sung in the Rosa region.

"Your previous question," Pskov said to Chen Lai with a hint of sadness, "If a group of sailors has lost their way, the siren's song can guide them home."
