Chapter 166 The Technique of Leaping Through Walls, the Technique of Five Senses Invisibility, the Technique of Flying Soldiers and Manipulating Objects
"Fellow Daoist Mai".
Fang Shu looked at the person behind him in surprise.
Mai Sheng'er gave a sweet, curtsy bow and uttered again, "Fang Lang."
The voice was so melodious and evocative, it sparked the imagination.
Fang Shu sized up the woman and immediately assumed that she had come to him privately to try and build a relationship with him after seeing how well he had made a name for himself during his sermon.
He even secretly wondered if this woman would act like Erdaiyuan and generously invest in him.
Unfortunately, with Fang Shu's current insight, he had already seen that Fellow Daoist Mai Sheng'er had already lost her virginity. Even if she was truly like Er Daiyuan, he would find it difficult to obtain the same great benefits as before.
As Fang Shu's thoughts churned, Mai Sheng'er took a few more steps forward, getting even closer to him. The fragrance emanating from her could already reach Fang Shu's nose, making him feel even more alluring.
But only a few dozen breaths passed.
The woman hurried past Fang Shu, leaving him standing there, staring blankly at her retreating figure, and letting out a long sigh.
Fang Shu's long sigh was a sigh for himself, and also a sigh for his fellow Daoist Mai Sheng'er.
This woman was not there to win him over, nor was she there to help him. On the contrary, she came to borrow money from him, and she borrowed eight taels of spirit stones!
Fang Shu was quite puzzled. Why would Fellow Daoist Mai, who had always been generous, dressed well, ate fine spiritual food, and maintained a good appearance, suddenly ask for money, and specifically come to him, a frugal and poor man...
As for the outcome of Mai Sheng'er's loan, after a few moments of silence, Fang Shu took out eight taels of spirit stones from his pocket and handed them over to her, as she had requested.
This wasn't because he was blinded by lust or had his eye on the other person's body, but rather because of consideration for their relationship.
It should be noted that the reason he could receive one or two spirit stones after each monthly sermon was because of Mai Sheng'er's suggestion, and initially, the spirit stones Fang Shu received were all paid for by this woman in advance.
Furthermore, aside from this personal relationship, Mai Sheng'er's use of collateral to borrow money this time seems more like a sale.
Fang Shu stood atop the mountain, stroking a snuff bottle in his hand. He squinted at the incantations and secret texts on the bottle for a long time, then silently chanted, "Golden smoke and fire, rising clouds and mist."
He immediately sneezed.
A wisp of yellow smoke drifted out of the snuff bottle, quickly coiling around his feet and lifting him up, making him feel as if he were walking on cotton.
Fang Shu probed the clouds up and down, swaying and probing for a while, before finally riding on the golden cloud and flying towards his cave.
When this cloud was first bought, it was worth ten taels of low-grade spirit stones. Now, after being nurtured by Mai Sheng'er for over a year, its quality has not deteriorated but has become slightly more solid. It is estimated that it can be sold for eleven taels of spirit stones.
In other words, even if Mai Sheng'er doesn't repay the money, Fang Shu will still make a profit by holding onto this cloud, and quite a lot of it.
But this made Fang Shu even more puzzled. Why did this woman's life suddenly become so difficult, and why did she suddenly have to sell her magic spells and artifacts, especially this Golden Glass Cloud?
Without the Golden Nitrogen Cloud, the opponent would be unable to fly through the clouds and could only walk and run on the ground, which would be extremely undignified.
However, these thoughts only flashed through his mind a few times before he suppressed them. He then focused all his attention on the experience of soaring through the clouds.
Whoosh!
It soared through the air, and after a few moments of practice, it became quite adept at maneuvering, moving up and down, left and right, having a great time.
The ability to fly is, in the eyes of the world, the biggest difference between immortals and mortals.
Now, after several years of cultivation, Fang Shu finally obtained a golden cloud by chance and experienced the wonder of flying off the ground!
If he hadn't gained something even more important from listening to the teachings on the mountaintop of the scripture hall, he definitely would have been unable to resist wandering around all the big and small hills of the entire Five Internal Organs Temple, not to show off, but simply for the sheer pleasure of it.
He suppressed the restlessness in his heart, wandered around the Gutang Valley a few more times, and then landed on the mountain where his cave was located.
With a whoosh, he put the golden salt cloud into his snuff bottle and then passed through the wall into his own cave.
Now that he has mastered the art of passing through walls, Fang Shu no longer needs to open the door to enter or leave his cave. He has even simply blocked the entrance to avoid leaving any loopholes.
Back in his cave, he couldn't help but sneeze again, releasing Jin Xiaoyun, who then played around with it in his own cave.
It was fortunate that his cave was quite large, otherwise he would have been covered in dust and dirt.
After thoroughly playing with the child, Fang Shu finally calmed down.
After burning incense and bathing, he sat cross-legged on the altar, holding a pen in one hand and white paper in the other, with his eyes slightly closed, as if he were about to draw talismans and perform rituals.
But in reality, he was sorting out what he had learned from this sermon, and wanted to digest and deepen it properly.
After carefully reviewing the sermon, he opened his eyes and slowly wrote the words "fundamental spells" and "basic spells" on the white paper.
"Now that I have received confirmation from Immortal Jinyan that my guess was correct, it is time for me to consider what kind of magic I should cultivate."
Fang Shu opened his eyes, his gaze filled with deep thought. As he pondered, his fingers unconsciously used the ink brush to scribble on the paper, writing down the names of one spell after another.
Among them are techniques such as the Cloud-Swallowing and Mist-Spitting Technique, the Copper Wall and Iron Wall Technique, the Drunken Life and Dream Death Technique, the Lingchi Execution Technique, the Yin-Yang Separation Technique, the Unending Ghost Technique, the Liver and Gallbladder Sharing Technique, the Rising to Prominence Technique, the Yin-Yang Strangeness Technique, the Verbal Sword Technique, the Drawing a Circle on the Ground as a Prison Technique, and the Poisoning to Quench Thirst Technique... From asexual to the Five Elements, and then to Yin and Yang, their categories are diverse, some emphasizing external objects, some emphasizing magical power, some capable of killing, and some capable of assisting. Their effects are also diverse, a mixture of orthodox and unorthodox, each with its own merits.
These spells were selected by Fang Shu from Er's family library, and were chosen to be suitable for him and quite powerful.
Each of these techniques, once mastered, will greatly enhance his magical power.
Faced with these spells, Fang Shu pondered for a long time before his gaze returned to the terms "fundamental spells" and "basic spells".
He thought to himself, "These spells of the Er family are good, and their effects are varied, but they are too mixed and difficult to combine or enhance each other."
If Fang Shu did not possess the Daoist talisman, nor perceive the connection between spells, nor learn about the origins of spells from Immortal Jin Yan, he would have immediately selected the most powerful spell and begun analyzing and cultivating it.
But now that his horizons have broadened, he no longer wants to waste his time, resources, and energy on these overly complicated spells.
It should be understood that cultivating magic is not just about comprehending it; one must also expend true energy to practice and resources to nurture it. The latter two are often even more costly than the former.
Resisting the temptation of the spells on the paper, Fang Shu used his brainpower to ponder the connections between the spells he had collected and where he should begin.
At the same time, the names of various spells from the Thirty-Six Heavenly Dipper Techniques and the Seventy-Two Earthly Fiend Techniques also appeared in his mind, surging endlessly.
However, after pondering for a while, Fang Shu found that the 108 widely circulated spells were either too mysterious or too vague, and only a few seemed to fit his research.
However, Fang Shu was unable to find the corresponding cultivation methods for these few individuals in the Er family's collection of books.
This means his idea of using the Heavenly Gang and Earthly Fiend spells as the core to organize all the spells in his possession and make them interconnected is about to fail.
Furthermore, based on his thinking, most of these 108 spells are more like ancient spells, which can be cast without relying on external objects. Even if they do rely on external objects, they are different from modern spells, and do not require fixed external objects as casting tools.
“Ancient techniques, modern techniques…” Fang Shu pondered, then raised an eyebrow and immediately took out the three ancient techniques passed down by the immortal Jin Yan from his sleeve.
The ability to pass through walls, become invisible, and manipulate objects!
These three ancient arts are simple yet straightforward in their effects and have been passed down for a long time. Many ancient arts have been lost in history, but these three have been passed down to this day. Isn't this exactly in line with the "basic magic" mentioned by the Golden Smoke Immortal?
Especially among the seventy-two earthly arts that have been passed down among the people, the art of "invisibility" is included!
In an instant, Fang Shu's thoughts became clear.
He quickly bent down on the high altar, took out several sheets of white paper, and began to scribble and draw on them.
The technique of passing through walls allows immortals to pass through obstacles in front of them and move in and out without hindrance. If combined with techniques such as rubbing the soles of the feet, making the feet move like the wind, twisting and turning, running like wolves and pigs, and flying like kites and leaping like fish, it can achieve great results.
This technique can be transformed into an excellent escape method!
The art of invisibility can conceal the form of immortals and distort light and shadow. If combined with spells of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, one can achieve a state where one cannot see, hear, smell, taste, or touch anything!
The art of manipulating objects allows one to control objects of all sizes and move them around. If combined with techniques such as flying sand and stones, flying swords at a hundred paces, hidden arrows, and fine needles, it can be very effective.
This technique allows one to control various weapons and hidden weapons, making it an excellent technique for killing and protecting oneself!
Fang Shu bowed and outlined three ancient techniques, followed by various modern techniques that were related to them.
A surge of joy immediately welled up in Fang Shu's heart.
He had by this time fully comprehended the principles of magic as described by Immortal Jinyan, and had found a path for his own cultivation.
This approach uses ancient techniques as its foundation, with no limits to its application. It requires no strict external tools and its spells are cast without leaving a trace. It also uses modern techniques as its flesh and blood, where cultivating techniques is the same as cultivating tools. The tools are concealed within the body, and the spells are cast swiftly, with unpredictable and ever-changing power.
In this way, even though there are thousands of supernatural powers, countless spells, and endless cultivation manuals in the world, each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
As long as Fang Shu adheres to this broad path jointly explored by predecessors and contemporaries, he can be targeted and simplify complex matters, and will not get lost in the myriad of magical arts.
Fang Shu became even more engrossed in his research, unaware of the passage of time.
Soon, two or three years passed in the blink of an eye.
In the past two or three years, his life has become even more fulfilling, as he has been cultivating, listening to the Dao, comprehending the Dharma, and making Gu to support his family.
He had long ago completely emptied the Er family's library of books, leaving nothing out, and hadn't gone back much since. The sheer variety and abundance of magical arts that had once dazzled him now seemed far too little to him.
This is because his three ancient and modern techniques have already taken initial shape and achieved some results, namely "The Technique of Leaping Through Walls", "The Technique of Five Senses Invisibility", and "The Technique of Flying Soldiers and Moving Objects".
Its specific functions are: the ability to pass through walls allows him to escape with lightning speed, making him extremely adept at escaping into narrow and cramped places, as well as traversing mountains and rivers, and moving up and down flat ground; the ability to become invisible can deceive the five senses of anyone other than himself, making them seem as if they don't exist and difficult to detect; and the ability to manipulate objects can control various weapons and magical artifacts such as flying needles, flying knives, flying swords, and arrows, which he can use at will.
However, this was not what Fang Shu wanted.
In his view, the technique of leaping through walls could be transformed into the technique of flying through walls, or even the technique of the five elements passing through walls, where none of the five elements (metal, wood, water, fire, and earth) could stop it; the technique of the five senses becoming invisible could also be further developed into the technique of yin and yang becoming invisible, becoming seemingly real yet illusory, and even able to change size at will, becoming a technique of varying sizes of invisibility.
There was also the Flying Weapon Manipulation Technique. Fang Shu also fantasized that if it could be called the Treasure-Falling Manipulation Technique, he could forcibly seize other people's magical artifacts and strike them back when he fought with magic in the future. Or he could directly control the wind, rain, thunder, and lightning in the world, which could be called the Five Thunder Manipulation Technique.
Unfortunately, all these wondrous techniques—such as flying, the five elements, yin and yang, size, falling treasures, and the five thunders—existed only in Fang Shu's imagination and were difficult to realize.
Being able to compile the three spells, "Leaping Through Walls," "Five Senses Invisibility," and "Flying Soldier Manipulation," was already beyond his expectations.
Upon realizing this, Fang Shu felt a longing arise in his heart and couldn't help but sigh softly:
"Your family's collection of books is still far too small."
