Chapter 21 Freshman Brawl

Chapter 21 Freshman Brawl
"Baron, stab him in the lower left!"

"Thorin, go for it, take that guy down."

Inside the arena, two young men were practicing with wooden swords in a fierce battle, while other students watched from ten meters away, some even cheering them on.

The area is spacious, with many unsharpened weapons hanging on wooden racks at the edge of the field. This is Viscount Xuefeng's training ground, located within the castle in the northern part of the city.

Because of the close relationship between Maester Hyde and Viscount Schevonne, the knight training ground was given to the students free of charge, and stables and several warhorses could be seen not far away.

On the high stands, Viscount Scheerfeng and Maester Hyde sat under a wooden shed, discussing the training.

"Baron Quaid's son, Baron, is quite good; he's very skilled," Viscount Schefeng commented on one of them.

"This is the first time I've met that commoner young man named Thorin."

“Thorin, his father is a warrior who returned from the frontier and is currently living in seclusion in Scorched Stone,” Maester Hyde recalled about the student’s background.

"Oh, there are warriors like that? How strong is he?" Viscount Xue Feng stroked his short mustache and asked with interest.

“He should be in the middle of the ‘Second Tier - Blood Law’ level, but he said he will no longer go to the battlefield.” Scholar Hyde shook his head.

"It is said that because he experienced too much death on the battlefield and his wife also died prematurely, his only hope now is to raise his child to adulthood healthily."

“That’s a bit of a shame, but someone who has been through so much on the battlefield would be a great choice to come here as a training instructor,” Viscount Xue Feng suggested.

“I will inquire on behalf of the Viscount later,” Maester Hyde nodded slightly.

……

'boom. ’

With a powerful blow, Baron's wooden sword was shattered, sending splinters flying and the broken end filled with splinters and fibers. Taking advantage of his opponent's loss of weapon, Thorin kicked Baron to the ground and plunged his sword into the dirt next to his neck.

This action startled Barron, who only reacted a few seconds later, his face turning furious.

"You lowly commoner!" He felt this was an insult to him.

"You're the one who's despicable!" Thorin retorted without backing down.

"How dare you insult a nobleman!"

"Lord Hyde said that everyone here is a student, and there is no distinction between nobles and commoners!" Thorin quoted what his teacher had said on the first day.

"you!"

Baron was furious and clenched his fist to punch Thorin, but Thorin dodged it and Baron took the punch instead.

Seeing Baron being beaten, his two noble classmates, who were his close friends, rushed to his aid. At this moment, several other bold commoner students also came to help Thorin.

The three noble friends swung their fists and feet without restraint, while on Thorin's side, apart from him being fearless, the others dared not use their full strength, but only tried their best to separate the two.

The girls on both sides were relatively calm in the face of the boys fighting on the training field.

"A bunch of idiots." Iona crossed her arms over her chest, not wanting to see such a rude and boring scene.

"Lady Iona is right." Valenie had become Iona's shadow for the past two days.

On the other side, Karen looked at the field with some worry, "Should we stop them? The teacher said fighting is wrong."

Komia shook her head vigorously: "No, no, no, let them fight, but don't drag us into it."

“We can’t afford to offend the nobles, and Thorin isn’t exactly a pushover either,” Komia whispered, analyzing the situation.

"Also, Tia is quite frail; it wouldn't be good for her to go." Using her companion as a shield, Komia stopped Karen from going forward.

“Alright, we’ll protect Tia.” Karen glanced at the delicate, long-haired girl beside her and decided not to participate in the fight. Viscount Scheffen and Maester Hyde had witnessed almost the entire situation in the training ground below.

"Hehehe, what a lively bunch of kids," Viscount Xue Feng said with a smile.

“That’s just how young people are,” Hyde said, shaking his head slightly.

Because Regas is a nation founded on military force, it actually encourages battles that do not result in death. This is why the young men in the arena started fighting at the slightest disagreement; they were all familiar with and accustomed to this style of fighting.

"Let them fight. You can separate them later," Viscount Xuefeng instructed his attendant.

"Yes, sir," the attendant replied respectfully.

……

Half an hour later, the fight ended, and several injured students leaned against the wooden railing at the edge of the training field, receiving ointment from their classmates.

"Ouch—it hurts." The big student 'Lei' covered his fingers as he applied medicine, his eyes were bruised, and he was grimacing.

"No, there's still a lot of medicine left to apply," Komia complained irritably, then continued applying the medicine with her fingers.

Across from them, Baron and his group were also leaning against wooden chairs, with Valenie applying medicine to the two of them. As for Iona, she was ignoring the others and talking to Viscount Scheffer. Looking at her smiling face, it was hard to imagine that she was usually so arrogant in front of her classmates.

On the other side, Hilti also held medicine in her hand and applied it to the restless boy in front of her.

"You have quite a few hidden injuries."

After applying the medicine with the cloth stick, the girl put the stick back in the medicine bottle and glanced at the boy named Mick. He looked like a wild beast, somewhat fierce, with various scars on his body.

“You don’t need to worry about it,” Mick replied irritably to the girl beside him.

“Hmm.” Hilti didn’t refute this, but quietly stepped back.

Mick was somewhat surprised by her obedient behavior. He turned around and took a closer look at Hilti. Although the black-haired girl was beautiful, her body appeared rather thin under the cover of her wide robes.

She's pretty good-looking, only slightly less so than Iona. If she were a bit plumper, she'd probably be about the same size as Iona, according to the boy.

Perhaps seeing that Hilti was more obedient, Mick's attitude became slightly more polite.

"Thanks."

"It's alright." The girl shook her head and turned to the other side to look after the other injured classmates.

She skillfully cleaned the wound and applied medicine, surprising the other students.

"Did Tia do this often before?" Komia asked curiously, as did the others.

"Many people from my village were injured recently, and I helped take care of them, so I learned some things in the process," the girl replied.

"That's still pretty impressive." Komia gave a thumbs up.

Seeing that the trainees had recovered enough, an instructor walked over. He was strong and wore leather pants and a white shirt, and had a little beard.

“Sir Hyde has sent me to train you and see how your foundation is.”

"Coincidentally, I was there the whole time you were fighting, and I saw some of your skills." He walked back and forth in front of the crowd with his hands behind his back.

"The boys are all quite good; they all know the breathing techniques." If they didn't even know the breathing techniques, they probably wouldn't be able to study under Maester Hyde.

“Now take up your swords and challenge me one by one. I will point out the flaws in your swordsmanship and footwork.”

The instructor shouted loudly, ordering the trainees to gather around, and then the afternoon's lesson began.
