Cornflower Witch
Chapter 51 Relocation
Chapter 51 Relocation
On their day off, Hilti and Thaliel tidied up the house, preparing for the day they had promised Mrs. Fran to take care of the flower field.
"Are we really going to move into such a big house?" Thalys was still somewhat incredulous. To her, Lady Fran's mansion was not much different from the legendary palace.
"Yes, because we usually have to help that lady take care of the flower fields, we may not have time to travel between the east and west sides of the city." Mrs. Fran's mansion is in the wealthy and prestigious West District, which is quite far from the East District where they currently live.
“It’s very far from where I work,” Talil said, sounding a little discouraged.
"If it's for work..." Hiltiya thought of the words Lady Lan had left behind, which allowed her to bring a servant to live with her at the mansion.
“You can work for Mrs. Fran; she’ll agree to take you in,” the girl replied.
"Sigh, that kind of environment, although it's almost an ideal place, I feel very scared, afraid that I might break something and I wouldn't be able to afford to pay for it even if I sold myself." Taliel thought of the luxurious mansion she had seen the day before yesterday.
"It's okay, we'll take it one step at a time." When she said this, Hilti was not only encouraging Thalys, but also herself.
"Okay, but if I really don't do well, Tia should plead for me and let me come back." Taliel was still a little worried.
"Don't worry, it's alright," Hiltiya reassured her once again.
After packing their belongings into boxes, the two found a carriage, loaded the boxes onto the carriage, and transported them to Madame Fran's mansion in the West District.
……
In the afternoon, after the luggage and belongings were put away, the maid named Lining came to the two of them.
"I'll tell you where you'll be staying from now on." She told the two of them to follow.
"First is Miss Tia's room, which, like Madam's, is on the second floor. However, Madam lives on the west side, while Miss Tia's bedroom is on the east side."
Following the white stone-carved and polished handrail staircase, the three arrived at the equally luxurious second floor of the mansion. The corridors here were spacious, and from the railing, they could see a vast expanse of golden flowers behind the mansion. After passing through a series of closed doors, Lining arrived at the second to last room on the east side, opened the door, and revealed the interior.
Enveloped in intricate sheer curtains, adorned with light blue floral pendants, and furnished with soft, white ivory-colored furniture, this bedroom exudes the warmth and luxury of a princess's room.
"This is where Miss Tia sleeps," Lining continued, introducing the place to the two of them.
"A dressing table, a wardrobe, a comfortable and soft bed—everything you need is provided. If you require anything else, please let me know." She bowed, her manners impeccable.
"Whoa, here, here..."
Taliel was speechless with surprise, unable to find the right words to describe the room. She even felt a slight sense of shame, as if she would feel ashamed to be sleeping there.
However, if it were Tia, she would turn her head and look at the silver-haired girl beside her, and feel that it was inexplicably suitable, as if only such an environment could nurture such a lovely and beautiful person.
Hiltia sighed. Living in such an environment, she felt an invisible pressure coming on.
Just like if you take a lot from someone, shouldn't you also take some responsibility? But since you're already here, being too coy and polite would just be awkward.
"Thank you for the arrangements, Miss Lining."
"No need to call me that, just call me Lining," the maid, who also had light blonde hair, replied calmly.
“Okay, Lining.”
Afterwards, Lining led the two back to the first floor and to another house on the side of the mansion. There were two rooms on the first floor of this house, accessible through a short corridor with reddish-brown flooring.
"The room on the inside is Miss Taliel's room, and the one on the outside is where I usually live." After saying that, she pushed open the door and went in.
The room prepared for Taliel was much simpler, furnished with a single bed, a wardrobe, a small table, and a wooden chair, with a brass candlestick on the table. Even so, the sheets and blankets were made of finely combed cotton, equally soft and comfortable, and the furniture was crafted from delicate mahogany, appearing simple yet quite expensive.
“Oh, this place is nice too.” Taliel was touched; she even wanted to go forward and touch the soft, fine cotton fabric.
“If I take a bath…” Lining thought for a moment.
"If Tia wants to take a hot bath, please let me know in advance. A regular shower is fine anytime."
“A shower? What’s that?” Taliel felt she had never heard of the word before.
"It's probably a shower where fine streams of water spray from a pipe, used to bathe the whole body." Hiltiya didn't know what kind of shower this world had, but she made a rough guess based on the vocabulary.
“That’s right. Since Miss Tia already knows, I won’t explain any further.” The other party nodded slightly, a hint of satisfaction seemingly flashing in his calm eyes.
"Just put your change of clothes in the bamboo basket in the bathroom, and I will collect and wash them."
“I prepare all the meals every day; Ms. Tia only needs to go to the restaurant on time.”
"If you want to eat anything, you can let me know in advance and I will try my best to prepare it. Also, please note that my wife doesn't like outsiders making a mess of the house."
"Therefore, unless Madam grants special permission, Miss Tia, please do not invite other friends to the mansion for meals or gatherings."
"I understand." The girl nodded in understanding.
"If other guests visit and the lady happens to be away, Miss Tia will receive them on her behalf. During this time, Miss Tia is requested to behave appropriately." This is roughly the requirement and price of living here.
"Ms. Tia is free to arrange her own meals during the reception period, but she cannot allow guests to stay overnight, nor can she bring anyone into the flower field in the back courtyard," she reiterated the rules.
"If Miss Tia agrees to something for a guest, it is equivalent to the lady agreeing to it as well. Therefore, Miss Tia, please act with caution." She still had some wariness and distrust towards this unfamiliar silver-haired girl and had to remind her in advance.
“If it is a particularly distinguished guest, Miss Tia can postpone the matter and say that a decision will be made when Madam returns.”
"Then what are the more important things?" Hiltiya asked curiously.
"Generally, guests come for three purposes: first, to ask for something; second, to plead for something; and third, to hope that the lady will intervene," Lining explained calmly.
"If you request something, and its value does not exceed the second tier, Miss Tia can make her own judgment."
"I would like to ask you to do something. If Miss Tia can do it easily, then I would certainly agree."
"I hope Madam will intervene. If it can be resolved based solely on Madam's letter, then Miss Tia can agree."
“The other day, Miss Merlin brought over some things and asked about books and seeds. I was the one who agreed on behalf of Madam, because Madam has seen many similar requests. She has prepared a complete set of books and seeds, so if anyone comes to the door, I can just deliver them directly.” As Lining said this, she looked at Siltia with a hint of admiration in her eyes.
"Although the lady gave many people books and seeds for gardening, very few people actually returned the favor with the results."
"I've never seen anyone like Miss Tia who can cultivate a flower with a solidified phase on their first try." She gave Silti a small compliment.
This also made Hilti understand why Madame Fran admired her so much.
After giving her instructions, Hiltiya settled into the luxurious mansion.
