Chapter 2 Logging Experience
Chapter 2 Logging Experience
A small mound of earth buried everything from the past.
At this point, only three people remained in the camp.
Li Wei is portrayed as George, her sister Penny, and her mother Fila, who is also ill and looks very weak.
A gloomy atmosphere hung over her. Fira could no longer cry. She sat blankly in the shack, seemingly in a state of unpredictable chaos, which was worrying.
Penny, however, was resilient, busying herself while directing Li Wei to do her work.
“George, after you finish eating, take the axe and go chop down some trees that aren’t too thick. We need a sturdier cabin. Father is dead, the car is broken, and we’ve even lost our way. We can’t find the road to the province of Ver, so we have to stay here for now. But it’s not all bad. At least we don’t have to worry about catching that terrible plague!”
"Cheer up, for Mom's sake!"
"I know."
Li Wei tried to say something very quietly. He spoke in Chinese, since he didn't know any other languages and couldn't be mute. But Penny could understand him, which meant that some mysterious force was at work.
It was around 10 a.m. when Li Wei scooped a bowl of sticky stuff from the dark jar. He felt like vomiting after just one look, but his rumbling stomach left him no choice.
Moreover, even with this sticky stuff, it wasn't something you could just eat as much as you wanted. He ate a bowl, Penny ate a bowl, and only a small half-bowl was left for Fila.
Although this stuff doesn't taste good, being as coarse as swallowing raw bran, it still has some effects, which are clearly reflected in the attribute panel.
Life Count: 50 (Chronic Diseases)
Stamina: 80 (Mild hunger, -20)
Strength: 5 (Slightly weak, -1)
Agility: 3 (Slightly weak, -1)
[Defense: 1 (Skinny -2)]
[Current Status: Chronic illness, mild hunger, emaciation due to malnutrition; your physical strength will slowly decline; expected death in 36 months]

"That's pretty good!"
Li Wei was satisfied. He then walked around the camp but did not see the axe that Penny had mentioned. However, when he lifted the awning on the oxcart, he found a fairly sharp axe that was not rusted, as well as several other tools, including two hoes, a strangely shaped tool that looked like a sickle, and finally a short knife with a notch.
In addition, in the best protected central position of the oxcart, there were supplies covered with two layers of tarpaulin: a small wooden box and two sacks of wheat.
It was very dry; it hadn't been rained on at all.
Li Wei watched in silence. Based on his experience, the cheap father must have caught a bad cold, then got soaked in the rain all night, and eventually died of a fever.
But he could actually avoid getting wet in the rain; the vehicle has the highest quality tarpaulin, which could be used to build a completely leak-proof shelter.
But if we did that, we would definitely lose all our grain.
Ugh!
Li Wei picked up the axe, thought for a moment, then picked up the short knife, and carefully covered the supplies on the vehicle.
The most important thing right now is to quickly build a sturdy wooden house. Judging from the surrounding vegetation and terrain, this is a place with a large temperature difference between day and night. If another rainstorm comes, it would be bad if we got sick.
On the other side, Penny had already chosen a relatively flat spot on the hill and was clearing weeds and leveling the soil with what looked like a shovel, but was clearly a clumsy tool. She was working quickly and efficiently, and seemed very experienced.
Instead of cutting down trees, Li Wei moved some relatively flat stones from the surrounding area and laid them out in the stream to form a path, because he didn't want to wade across.
Although his attribute panel didn't have more detailed attribute definitions, such as perceived temperature, wind speed, hunger level, air pressure, or whether he needed to urinate or defecate, he dared not be careless at all, because this might not really be a game. He had to make sure he didn't get injured, and that no small detail would cause his health problems, ultimately leading to a complete collapse.
At the edge of the forest, Li Wei first used a short knife to clear away a patch of weeds and vines, leaving enough space to work and preventing bites from venomous snakes or insects, which was also very important.
He didn't want the mission to fail and for his memories to be erased. Rather than return to Earth and endure his bleak and tragic life, he would rather be erased.
As it turned out, such caution was the right thing to do. While cutting down a weed, a small, patterned snake, no thicker than a finger, suddenly lunged at him with such speed that Li Wei felt utterly hopeless.
Fortunately, he unconsciously swung the short knife in his hand, knocking the small snake away; otherwise, he would have been the one to die from the poison.
The little snake quickly disappeared without a trace, while he was drenched in a cold sweat from fright.
He became even more cautious after that, even picking up a long stick and frantically tapping the grass for a while to make sure there were no snakes in it before continuing his work.
It took him more than an hour to clear an area of about 200 square meters. His physical strength dropped to 60 points, his stamina was almost zero, and his stomach was growling again.
The biggest problem is not having enough to eat.
With a sigh, Li Wei rested for a moment before picking up the axe and, based on Penny's earlier gestures, choosing a tree with a diameter of about fifteen centimeters.
"boom!"
The moment the axe struck the tree trunk, both his hands went numb, and he almost couldn't hold the axe because he didn't have enough strength.
So Li Wei didn't hesitate this time and decisively added the remaining two free attribute points to Strength, bringing it to 7 points. In fact, if he had eaten his fill and didn't have that Weakness debuff, his Strength should have been 8 points.
The effect was immediate; he gripped the logging axe with both hands again and immediately felt a sense of ease and more powerful control.
Even the process of swinging the axe up and then bringing it down is no longer unsteady.
"boom!"
Another loud bang rang out, and although my hands were still numb from the shock, the effect of the chopping was increased by almost half.
Especially because of the increase in strength, shortcomings in technique can be largely compensated for.
Not bad!
With one burst of energy, Li Wei first chopped one side, then the other, and finally gave it a gentle push with his hand. With a creak, the tree, which was more than ten meters tall, crashed to the ground.
Almost simultaneously, a line of information silently flashed before my eyes.
[Lumberjacking Experience +1]
Haha! Positive feedback!
Li Wei grinned, feeling slightly smug. However, when he looked down at his palm, he saw that there were already three blood blisters.
The hard times have only just begun.
Another reason is a lack of experience.
He took out his short knife, carefully cut a small strip from his tattered burlap sack clothes, and meticulously wrapped it around the wooden handle of the axe. It might not be effective, but it was better than nothing.
He had no choice but to grit his teeth and tough it out.
