Chapter 363, Section 361: Newt's Dream
The cat-leopards, as mascots of Iphamoni, have eyes that can see through lies and can silently hypnotize intruders.
Therefore, all the students of Iphamoni throughout history have had the idea of taking them away after seeing them.
There have been successful precedents for this, which has further fueled the enthusiasm of the young wizards.
Moreover, the animals in the Iphamoni Forest are free; their fate is entirely up to them.
Even Pukchi here is merely an employee.
This is quite different from the house-elves of Hogwarts.
House-elves at Hogwarts are practically slaves to the wizards.
The Pukki are magical creatures from North America. They are short in stature, have gray skin, and long ears. They are distant relatives of European fairies.
This creature appears in many North American Native American folktales, especially in the folktales of the Wapanon people.
It is typically two to three feet tall, humanoid in shape, but with a larger nose, ears, and fingers, and its grey, smooth skin sometimes glows. Its magical abilities include suddenly disappearing and reappearing, transforming into or partially transforming into a porcupine or cougar, and setting fires… and it can also use a bow and arrow.
It probably includes minor spells like Apparition, Polymorph, and some fire spells.
Because of the existence of the Pukki "William"—a Pukki that is quite famous in the species—Ifamoni is able to hire a number of Pukki to provide security and maintenance services for the school.
The kind of hospitality that Sheehan and Mr. Scamander received, with food being delivered to them, was very rare.
Now, beneath the beech trees, Newt tilted his head slightly forward, still underestimating the young wizard's popularity among the cat and leopard population.
It took him more than a month to gain the trust of the injured cat-leopard. It was only after spending so much time together that Dilila accepted him as a member of the family.
But for Green, he suddenly had a strange feeling... the little wizard was like a cat or leopard.
"The second one that was stolen..."
Principal Herrera said weakly,
"Dear Newt, do Hogwarts wizards have a unique charm over cats and leopards? Or is it just the Scots?"
Newt laughed. Of the three of them, Eugenia Herrera was always the most outgoing, and it was she who had worked hard to bring him and his wife, Tina Goldstein, together.
“Mr. Green would be a good choice.”
Newt spoke softly, as if to tell Herrera not to worry too much.
"The eyes of a cat or leopard are much brighter than mine; my eyes don't glow in the dark."
Principal Herrera smiled broadly.
"Eugenia, Tina has missed you for a long time."
Newt paused for a moment before speaking.
"Then you'll have to make her come in person. You know she's very busy with official duties."
Principal Herrera spread his hands, seemingly helpless.
……
Inside the wizard's cabin, the fireplace bathed the entire cabin in a honey-colored hue.
The leopard cat lay on the floor of the wooden house, its yellow eyes staring straight out the window. Occasionally, a few small birds would fly up from the woods.
Sheen waved his wand and quickly conjured a nest, covering it with a thick blanket, not far from the fireplace.
Ipha, also known as the cat-leopard, agreed to Sheen's naming and curiously lay down in its den.
The time inside the cabin was no different from that outside; it was currently a time when the stars were twinkling. So, Sheen sat by the window and carefully examined the section about cats and leopards in "The Book of Monsters".
After Ifa checked into the wizard's cabin, his biggest goal for coming here was achieved. All that remained was to learn more about Ifa and make cat-and-leopard cookies.
Compared to this relatively easy task, Sheen was more concerned with another matter—the improvement of the Wizard's Book.
The current Wizarding Book actually only covers one region.
Sheen named this area, consisting of fields, wooden houses, and streams, the Beginning Plains.
And what happens next?
Sheen discovered that no more areas could be crammed in here. This was not only because there wasn't enough space inside, but more importantly, because the two different spaces would conflict, causing instability within the Wizard's Book.
At this point, a separation spell, a magic spell that isolates different spaces, must be used to complete the process.
But before Sheen could learn this much, Mr. Scamander was already leaving.
The leopard cat was fast asleep, with little wariness towards Sheen. Most of the time, it was wondering why Sheen didn't have yellow eyes and thick fur like it—it completely regarded Sheen as a companion.
Sheen waved his wand, causing part of the fireplace to jump over and close the door, before stepping out of the Wizarding Book.
The Iphamoni Forest remained quiet, with only the occasional sound of a branch breaking.
Sheen walked through the snow, the night wind whipping his scarf.
He felt he should confess his actions to Professor Terra and Principal Herrera as soon as possible, since the leopard cat was Ifamoni's mascot, and it didn't seem right for him to just take it away like that.
The second thing to do is rely on the Soul Relic... I hope Newt will go to bed early tonight.
On the way back to the stone house along the path, the young wizard could still see William Puckerch sleeping curled up next to the Aesop statue, its mouth wide open and its smooth skin faintly glowing.
The fire in front of it had burned out, so Sheen summoned a fire lizard to relight it before leaving.
And far away.
Newt also parted ways with Principal Herrera.
A faint smile played on his lips—though he had never doubted Headmaster Dumbledore, he was still inevitably curious about how a young wizard could build his own seamless extension space and take the cat and leopard away in a week.
But as it turns out, a week is far too long...
When Newt returned home, the moonlight cast a long shadow over him. By the warm fireplace, on the soft bed, his three cats, Lizzie, waited for him sleepily.
As soon as he arrived at the house, the lead cat, Hobby, purred and snuggled into his arms, falling asleep.
He took off his old, snow-covered brown overcoat and quickly fell asleep... The only strange thing was that at this time, it was foggy in Ifamoni.
After an unknown amount of time, Newt opened his eyes, slowly turned around, and the surrounding scenery seemed to materialize before his eyes.
This was a vast, bright, and clean space, with a dilapidated building right in front of him.
It was an old Victorian house, with a sign that read "Children's Home" still hanging on the wooden door.
A black cat... no, a lizard cat, was perched right above the sign, staring at him with its emerald green eyes.
“Mr. Scamander.”
"The black cat said."
Newt's intuition told him that this place was not simple and he should be more careful, but his attention was involuntarily drawn to the talking cat Lil.
So funny.
His cheeks flushed slightly, and a genuine smile appeared on his face.
