Chapter 467, Section 465: Cruel Memories
First, steam began to rise from its entire body, and then patterns gradually appeared on its shell.
By the time Sheen picked it up, it had already transformed into a proper teapot.
Sheen looked at the teapot carefully, then touched it again. The teapot slowly began to move until it completely transformed into a turtle.
After finishing all this, Sheen silently checked his mental state. He was a little tired, but not much.
Wandless spellcasting requires even stricter control than using a wand, and Sheen devoted most of his energy to this.
As soon as he looked up, he met Professor McGonagall's serious face:
"Wandless spellcasting... a dangerous technique... you need more practice."
Professor McGonagall spoke slowly, and a few seconds later, her brow relaxed.
"But there's no doubt you got a perfect score, kid. Well done—"
After finishing the Transfiguration exam, everyone quickly ate lunch and immediately went back upstairs to take the Spells exam.
How did the exam go?
In the hallway, Hermione looked up at Sheehan and asked.
"not bad."
Sheen said.
“That’s a perfect score, but I will also get a perfect score. If everyone gets a perfect score and we only consider the mistakes that happen later… I think I will have a chance to surpass you this time, Sheen.”
Hermione held up the book and spoke, then she turned to look at Justin.
"And you."
"I think so."
Justin kept admitting defeat.
Harry and the others couldn't get a word in edgewise, but they didn't seem to mind.
Harry was determined to excel in spells, transfiguration, defense against the dark magic, and potions, so that he would meet the requirements of an Auror in "The History of Magical Offices";
Ron, with the same vague idea as Harry, placed "A History of Magical Offices" at the bottom of the stack and left a cryptic note on the Auror page.
Neville, as always, was nervous, constantly reviewing his notes.
“I think Professor Flitwick might test you with a special spell, the Happiness Spell. You’d better take a look beforehand.”
Before entering the exam room, Hermione made a quick suggestion.
Harry and his friends were quite concerned, since everyone knew that Hermione was Professor Flitwick's second favorite wizard.
As expected, Hermione was right; Professor Flitwick did indeed test her with the Happiness Charm.
Harry was so nervous that he overdid it, causing his partner Ron to burst into hysterical laughter. In the end, Harry had to be taken to a quiet room and wait for an hour before he could complete his spell.
When Sheen cast the spell, Justin laughed even before the spell was recited, making Sheen wonder if he had already cast a spell.
After dinner, the students rushed back to the common room, not to rest, but to review potions and astronomy.
And so the day came to an end.
In the evening, Sheen was reading by the stained-glass windows of the Ravenclaw Tower.
He read "The Story of the Three Brothers" again, while mist slowly rose under the deep blue, tranquil sky.
Faraway Dorset.
Newt lulled the three noisy cats, Lizzie, to sleep, and then he found himself thinking about the last Christmas.
As he watched the fog gradually rise, a relaxed smile appeared on his face, and he slowly drifted off to sleep.
……
After an unknown amount of time, Newt opened his eyes, slowly turned around, and the surrounding scenery seemed to materialize before his eyes.
This was a vast, bright, and clean space, with a dilapidated building right in front of him.
It was an old Victorian house, with a sign that read "Children's Home" still hanging on the wooden door.
A black cat... no, a lizard cat, was perched right above the sign, staring at him with its emerald green eyes.
“Mr. Scamander.”
"The black cat said."
"Your Excellency Bastet."
Newt said with a smile.
He would occasionally enter his dreams, and when the black cat in front of him earnestly studied weather magic and spatial magic, he would think that perhaps the ancient legends were true.
“What do you want to know today?” Newt asked.
As he asked these questions, he also recalled his long-lost creative passion, and the manuscript of "Dreams and Gods" was already mostly completed.
Perhaps soon, Bastet will be able to see this book in the dreams of others.
"I ask for nothing today."
The black cat said that it sat on the wooden sign, its fur gleaming under the streetlights, giving it a fantastical and sacred feel.
"That is... Rita, when...when can I see her?"
Newt was slightly lost in thought.
“I need some memories, Mr. Scamander.”
The black cat explained gently.
It glanced furtively at its chest, where there was not only an alchemical artifact resembling a slab of stone, but also a deep, dark stone.
Resurrection Stone.
Its function is to summon the souls of the deceased, but it naturally has limitations.
— Users must have some impression of the departed souls.
The black cat couldn't find a single image of Rita in its mind.
"Of course, of course, transactions must be fair."
Newt was lost in thought for a moment before speaking.
My dear Bastet possesses the magic to control dreams, but any mortal who wishes to exchange it must pay a price.
He didn't believe that some trivial magical knowledge would make this powerful magical creature cross the line between life and death for him.
"I'm giving you my memories, I'm willingly giving them up, I just want to see her..."
Newt kept saying.
What did you say?
After Newt agreed, the black cat kept rummaging through the fog, and a few seconds later, it tossed out a Pensieve with its tail.
The Pensieve was still in Newt's hands, his face slightly flushed:
"Can the Pensieve be used in the world behind the veil...?"
He muttered to himself.
"This place is my dream."
The black cat raised its paw and gracefully drew a circle to indicate how big it was.
"what……"
Newt smiled, filled with awe and genuine joy at the power of the magic, as he used the Pensieve.
"I need to be with you."
The black cat jumped over and curiously examined Newt's memory silver threads.
Its paws stepped on Newt's shoulder, and its fur brushed against Newt's face. Newt thought this might be the most wonderful dream he had all year.
“I need to see her, Mr. Newt.”
The black cat repeated it one last time.
"I see……"
Newt, seemingly shy, didn't look directly at the black cat, but instead buried his head in the Pensieve with it.
In my memory, it was a rainy day.
Young Newt Scamander sat alone in the dimly lit waiting area, staring blankly into space.
A moment later, he felt something tugging at his wrist. He looked down and saw Pickett the Bowtruckle swinging on a loose thread from his sleeve.
The thread broke, Pickett fell, and Newt's button rolled away down the hallway.
Newt and Pickett watched it go, then they both ran after it.
Newt beat him to it, and as he bent down to pick up the button, he noticed a pair of women's feet in front of him.
