Chapter 473, Section 471: The Unforgivable Curse
Professor Snape remained silent on the way from the Great Hall dueling grounds to the cellars.
Snape only stopped abruptly when they entered the dark and damp cellar.
"You've learned quite a few evil curses, poisonous curses, and spells..."
He spoke in a deep voice, his hooked nose appearing unusually sharp in the dim cellar light.
"Thirty-six evil curses, eighteen poisonous curses, and six curses, Professor."
Sheen nodded.
"Ah……"
Snape snorted, a suppressed unease that was barely perceptible.
"A barely acceptable pace, but—"
You're far from enough to deal with spells—far from enough. This will be your first lesson, and perhaps your last.
Today you will truly witness the ways of wizards. I will give you ample time to teach you how to deal with them…”
He paused here, then looked at Sheen carefully.
It wasn't just those green pupils.
"Listen carefully—"
Snape raised his wand.
"You have learned some trivial spells, which come in many forms and have different magical powers."
I trained you to deal with some dark magic, how to prevent it, how to break it... but those are only the weakest parts of dark magic.
Logically speaking, illegal black magic is far beyond your reach. You cannot imagine it, nor can you effectively resist it.
But some 'greatest wizard' actually thinks you can deal with them?
The most foolish thing is that some idiot actually thinks he can confront the most evil and darkest part of the magical world—”
Snape's eyes were fixed on Sheehan.
Sheehan was puzzled; he had no idea what Professor Snape had discovered this time.
Is it a Ravenclaw tiara, a Gaunt ring, or a Slytherin locket?
As a double agent, Sheehan never doubted Professor Snape's abilities in investigation and reasoning.
"You understand, Professor?"
Sheen said.
"I know far more than you do..."
Snape gave a mocking laugh.
"Now, the sooner you understand what you're dealing with, the better. How can you face something you've never seen before..."
Snape fell silent abruptly, staring intently at Sheehan, before finally uttering a few words through clenched teeth:
"Survive..."
After a few seconds, he continued:
"You'd better remember this well, Green: living is the only meaning of everything..."
If someone is going to cast an illegal spell on you, they won't tell you their intentions.
You'd better be fully aware of this, you stupid Green, he won't give you a frank, fair, or polite spell—you have to be prepared and on your guard.
"Then...Grimm, tell me, which spells will be punished most severely under wizarding law?"
"The Unforgivable Curse, Professor."
Sheehan was surprised. Was Professor Snape teaching him the Unforgivable Curse?
Why is that?
"You'd better know. The Unforgivable Curse is one of the three most powerful and evil dark magic spells known in the magical world."
These are the Avada Kedavra, the Cruciatus Curse, and the Imperishable Curse.
According to the laws of the Ministry of Magic, anyone who uses any of these three spells against a human will be sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban.
These three spells are categorized together for their deadly, cruel, and utterly controlling nature, making them their most frequently used signature tools. Snape paced back and forth, and suddenly picked up a slug:
"Soul leaving the body!"
The slug started dancing, even though its movements were bizarre and disgusting.
"This is the Imperius Curse. Now it's completely under my control. I can make it drown itself, I can make it jump out of the window..."
Listen to me, Green, if you continue to be this foolish, I think this spell might be used on you. Even clinging to life is better than dying.
Many years ago, many wizards were controlled by the Imperius Curse in this way.
Those idiots at the Ministry of Magic can never tell who is being forced to act and who is acting of their own volition...
However, the Imperius Curse can be resisted. I will teach you how, but it requires a very strong will. When you encounter it, you'd better try to avoid being hit by it.
Snape finished speaking slowly.
Before Sheen could process it, he continued:
"The Crucifixion Curse...extreme pain!"
Snape waved his wand at the slug, and Sheen could see the slug twitch violently. After a while, it couldn't even move anymore.
"The last spell, the Avada Kedavra Curse, the Killing Curse. When you hear it, Grin, run! Get your legs moving, and you better get behind Dumbledore—Avada Kedavra!"
Snape said calmly, and he recited a spell. A blinding green light shot out, accompanied by a jumble of noises, as if an unseen behemoth were flying through the air.
It's like Death is wielding his scythe.
At the same time, the slug flipped over and lay on its back on the table. There were no wounds on its body, but it was undoubtedly dead.
"It's very unpleasant. And there's no way to break the spell. There's no way to resist it."
Snape stared into Sheehan's eyes,
"Dumbledore considers you to be one of the wizards he needs to take seriously, and he will not allow anyone to teach you such dark magic."
As everyone knows, dark magic can corrupt a wizard's mind, but..."
He gazed at the young wizard before him.
He would rather cultivate a Dark Lord than allow himself to once again be a loser, only able to collect corpses.
"Therefore... these three spells—Avada Kedavra, Imperius, and Cruciatus Curse—are all known as the Unforgivable Curses."
Using any one of these spells on a human would be enough to land them in a lifetime of imprisonment in Azkaban.
This is what you need to defend against. This is what I'm going to teach you to defend against. You need to be prepared; you need to be on guard.
What are you waiting for? Take out your quill pen... and write these down..."
Snape's voice mingled with the cold wind of the cellar.
While Sheen left the dungeons in a daze, carrying with him knowledge of the Unforgivable Curse, Snape remained in the shadows of the dungeons.
He stretched out his left arm, a mark branded on the inside of his left forearm, looking like a bright red tattoo.
The mark weakened his senses even further, and the Dark Lord's power was diminished more than once.
He doesn't need to think to know who this is related to.
But he will eventually return; no one can truly kill him, a fact that has been proven many times.
As for those who hinder his plans...
"Dumbledore—you'd better explain—"
Snape suddenly turned his gaze toward the cellar entrance.
An old wizard with a long, white beard slowly emerged from behind the wooden door.
