Chapter 76, Section 76: Choice
Chapter 76, Section 76: Choice
“I’m sorry, Mr. Filch.”
Sheen said something sincerely in a low voice.
Sheehan didn't hate or resent Mr. Filch like the other young wizards.
Sheehan believed that the administrator's behavior was understandable.
Just as he didn't think Professor Snape should be held responsible for this, he could only blame himself for his slow progress, otherwise it wouldn't have taken so long.
However, Sheen still felt a sense of loss. After working hard for nearly a month, he had failed at the last step, and it was not a pleasant feeling.
Sheen saw Filch stare blankly for a moment, then angrily go back to writing his report.
This gave Sheen a glimmer of hope.
As is well known, the enforcement of Hogwarts' school rules is very flexible; the same thing, such as going out at night, can be enforced.
Professor McGonagall would ruthlessly deduct points and put people in solitary confinement under bad circumstances, such as when Harry and his friends tricked Neville and Malfoy into going out at night (that's what the professor thought at the time).
She stood tall in front of Harry and his two companions, and Harry thought the professor was more likely to breathe fire than Norbert.
But under normal circumstances, professors do not put students in solitary confinement;
As for Professor Flitwick, Sheehan felt that as long as he explained things properly, the professor wouldn't put him in solitary confinement;
Not to mention Professor Sprout, even if the Hufflepuffs went out and made mistakes or got into fights, the professor would only scold them, but he would still secretly give the children a box of coconut ice cream. This headmaster was always like the warm sun in winter.
Thinking about it this way, as long as it's not reported to Professor Snape, Sheehan won't be captured by some Potions Master and locked up in solitary confinement for "potions practice".
After all, Professor Snape was quite dissatisfied with his recent "slackness"...
wrong!
Sheehan suddenly had a suspicion: could his forced nighttime stroll also be part of Professor Snape's plan?
Sheehan remembered that Professor Snape seemed to have a good relationship with Mr. Filch, and in the original book, it was Filch who treated Professor Snape's bite wound.
Could I have... been set up by the professor...?
What Sheen didn't know was that this was a trap within a trap.
Well, it's quite simple to verify this; just see who Mr. Filch is going to report to.
Just as Sheen was feeling uneasy, a loud crash came from the ceiling of the office, making the oil lamp rattle.
"Peeves!"
Filch roared, and in a fit of anger, threw down the quill pen.
"This time, I will definitely not let you get away with this!"
Taking advantage of this moment, Sheen quickly leaned over to look at the half-filled form.
The form had a big initial "S" written on it, and Sheen sighed silently.
However, there was another thing on the table: a bulging purple envelope with some silver lettering printed on it.
Sheen could only ponder how much of a chance he had of practicing spells in the cellar, and finally he sighed again.
Just then, a cold wind blew in through the window, threatening to knock the letter away. Sheen quickly caught it; the purple envelope bore the words:
Invitation letter for a correspondence course on quick spellcasting magic.
Sheen roughly knew what kind of letter it was, and his emerald eyes lit up again.
He remembered that in the original story, Harry found this letter and was then released by Mr. Filch.
I didn't expect Mr. Filch to be watching this so early...
While Sheen was still in a daze, a lithe figure darted into the room and gracefully jumped onto the wooden table.
It was Mrs. Lorris; her claws ripped the letter open.
Do you feel like you can't keep up with the pace of the modern magical world?
Do you find yourself making excuses not to perform simple magic?
Have you ever been laughed at for your poor wand skills?
The answer is here! Rapid mantra recitation is a foolproof, fast-acting, and easy-to-learn new course.
Hundreds of wizards have already benefited from rapid incantation!
The annoying lady from Top Mountain wrote:
"I couldn't remember the spells, and my potions were ridiculed by my whole family! Now, after a course on quick spell-recitation, I'm the center of attention at parties, and my friends all ask me for the recipe for the Glittering Potion!"
The troublemaking wizard of Ditsbury said:
“My wife used to always laugh at my terrible magic, but after a month of studying in your amazing rapid spell-chanting class, I successfully turned her into a yak! Thank you, rapid spell-chanting!”
Watching Mrs. Lorris's tail sweep across the letter and then meow at the wall, Sheehan immediately understood what the clever lady meant.
"S—cour—g—ify! (Clean it up!)"
With a wave of his wand, a stain on the wall disappeared instantly, and the tip of his wand flashed continuously as the stains on the wall diminished one by one.
Meanwhile, Sheen thoughtfully used a levitation spell to tidy up the messy room, and also neatly stacked up some of the large, collapsed items.
When everything was finished, Sheen started to catch his breath again.
Mrs. Lorris jumped onto Sheen's shoulder and nuzzled his cheek affectionately with her head.
Under the dim light of an oil lamp, a person and a cat leaned gently against each other.
"You were the one who caused the commotion up there, weren't you, Madam... It's been a pleasure working with you."
Sheen felt a tickle on his cheek; Lady Lorris's tail had somehow stood up.
"Snoring——"

……
"Have you—watched it—?"
Upon seeing the scene inside the room, Mr. Filch asked incoherently, just as another gust of wind blew by, and the already flimsy letter fell into Sheehan's hands.
Sheehan and Mr. Filch stared at each other in silence.
Filch immediately twisted his two knuckles together:
"Oh...actually, no, this isn't mine...it's for a friend...anyway...but..."
"I'm sorry, I have no intention of seeing this, but I won't reveal a single word, sir."
Sheen's words carried weight.
"Okay...that's good, let's go, let's go..."
Filch seemed to have all his strength drained away. He stared blankly at the newly cleaned room, frozen at his desk.
“Unexpected, unexpected… You also think we can trust him, right? My dear wife.”
Mrs. Lorris moved closer to Mr. Filch, leaning on his shoulder, a look of human agreement flashing in her eyes.
……
Late at night.
A hushed conversation could be heard coming from the shadows of the corridor.
Ah—a person's background is not important; what matters is the kind of person they become.
What determines who we become is not our ability, but our choices.
The old wizard, with his long, white beard, smiled kindly, his deep blue eyes profound and unfathomable.
“Anger is the easiest option, but that child didn’t have it, did he?”
"Do you really think...this makes sense, Dumbledore?"
Professor McGonagall coldly uttered a sentence and then turned and left.
"To understand a person's true character, the key is to observe how he treats those of lower status... Forgive me, Minerva."
Dumbledore's figure also disappeared into the darkness.
Ravenclaw bedroom.
Sheen was flipping through "Standard Spells: Level Seven," which contained the content on silent spells, and he had gained some insights into this.
So he planned to ask Professor Flitwick about it after he finished learning the transformation technique the next day.
He clearly didn't notice the two pairs of eyes in the shadows of the corridor at night.
