Chapter 6 Borrowing a Little Moment
Chapter 6: Leveraging a Small Force
gun.
There are plenty of guns in this town because this is America, and everyone has the freedom to own a gun.
But there are many kinds of guns. BB guns are one kind, classic AKs are another, and anti-materiel sniper rifles are yet another. And for Si Ming right now, what he needs is undoubtedly the most powerful one.
Ordinary gun shops could no longer meet his needs. It was also unlikely that any advanced shooting ranges were operating in this town. But he was certain of one thing: the National Guard's armory did indeed exist within its borders.
There are armored vehicles.
Armored vehicle equipped with a heavy machine gun.
The specifications were unknown, and his knowledge of firearms was no greater than that of a novice enthusiast. He only knew that the US military had an inexhaustible supply of M2 machine guns. So, at least, as a safety net, he could fight with that machine gun.
"The net weight of the M2, I remember it should be around 40 kilograms? Hmm, does that weight include the bullets?"
Si Ming thought for a moment, then cut off the alien's head shell. Casually draining and wiping away the flesh and tissue inside, the polarized silicon artifact looked like a large, uniquely shaped gauntlet. Its appearance wouldn't raise any alarm in ordinary people, but in the first movie, the protagonist had used it as a shield.
The feel is quite good. The weight and structure are quite suitable for holding. But Siming has other plans for it, and he's not really used to using a shield in combat.
well.
His gaze swept over the bridge arch outpost, which was now a mess of acid-corroded blood.
There was no more movement nearby, and no living thing moved in the well. The three objects to which he had entrusted his fighting spirit were being dragged at high speed through the sewer. Clearly, the three gangsters who were used as bait were about to meet a less-than-honorable end.
Si Ming shrugged, his attention immediately shifting away from the area. And the instant he stepped out onto the outer streets, the last rays of sunlight on the other side of the sky disappeared behind the horizon.
Darkness is coming.
Shadows shrouded every corner of the town, yet were somewhat dispelled by the isolated, faint lights. From a higher vantage point, one could sense a dark and unsettling atmosphere swirling within the town. People were busy, restless, arguing anxiously or engrossed in their work. Like an anthill before a flood, everyone had a vague premonition of what was to come, yet no one knew what to do.
Night has fallen.
A dark, aura-shrouded garment spread across Si Ming's body, concealing his movements. His figure flickered elusively in the shadows. Then, he nodded slightly at the environment that allowed him to unleash his full potential.
He reappeared and then stepped into the light under the streetlights.
........................
The distance from the underpass near the hospital to the National Guard base is approximately five kilometers. However, even by taxi, the journey would take more than forty minutes.
Traffic jams are everywhere.
There was arguing and shouting everywhere. Suddenly, people started fighting in the street, and both sides ended up with blood on their heads. Occasionally, the piercing sound of police sirens would ring out, but when the fighters stopped, they would find that the speeding police cars had only brushed past them and disappeared into the night in the distance.
A strange smell lingered in the air.
It looked like blood, but also like some kind of putrid stench.
It gushed out of the sewers and flowed into many windows and chimneys.
Si's whereabouts were clearly revealed.
He appeared outside the National Guard base.
His gaze swept across the surroundings, and he observed the movement of personnel inside the compound. Every now and then, guards would arrive by car or on foot, hurrying into the compound, accompanied by the roar of numerous vehicles and equipment.
This is not surprising, as the National Guard is essentially the U.S. militia. They are not elite professional soldiers, but they are responsible for maintaining order, disaster relief and evacuation, and civil rights protection, among other duties. In this town surrounded by mountains and forests, a series of disappearances and deaths was enough to get these long-idle soldiers on edge.
After all, this is America in 2007, and the country's grassroots level hasn't yet rotted to the point of being unusable. Perhaps they will still follow the original movie and only officially deploy after receiving a request for help from the police after 10 p.m. But this doesn't prevent them from being in a state of alert and preparedness before that moment arrives.
So……
His body began to sway.
A few seconds of observation was enough for Si Ming to locate the sentry and the not-yet-common cameras of this era. He nimbly and silently disappeared into the night, and with a powerful leap, he bounded over the middle of the outer wall, which the sentry could neither see nor detect. No one would believe that someone could scale a four-meter-high outer wall covered with electrified barbed wire without any tools. But for him, it was an easy feat.
Land on tiptoe.
There were people walking in this direction nearby.
His senses expanded rapidly in all directions, and in an instant, Si Ming had moved behind a pillar.
Several men who appeared to be military officers walked quickly by, their steps rapid and their speech rapid. "Something's not right tonight. Get everyone ready. Call back all the young men on leave; we might be taking action soon..."
The person giving the orders came into Si Ming's view.
Si Ming noted down his appearance and where he went. But now was not the time to make contact. He simply left quietly after the officers had passed by, moving through the well-equipped military outpost.
The darkness enveloped him, concealing his aura and features.
Several police dogs with exceptionally keen senses raised their heads and barked twice, but unsurprisingly, they gained nothing.
Si Ming walked past them—he even patted one of the police dogs on the head. The startled animal barked warily, attracting the attention of many soldiers nearby.
The effect is good.
Their attention was thus drawn, making way for Siming. The path leading to the armory was then clearly visible to Siming.
well.
..............................
Captain Anderson suddenly shivered, a strange sensation running through his body like an electric shock. He instinctively rose from his chair, his gaze sweeping across his empty office before looking out the window—the night was dark, and a sense of oppression hung in the air. He knew this was high pressure, which meant rain was coming soon.
This is not a good thing. This rain came at the worst possible time.
He still remembered the notorious disappearance that had caused such a stir in town—a hunter and his son had vanished, and a homeless man's dog had brought back a severed hand wearing a watch. But what the public didn't know was that last night, during the search and rescue operation, a lone police officer had been murdered, skinned, and hung upside down from a large tree.
This means that one, or even a group, of ruthless murderers—and a sudden downpour could very well trigger them to strike again.
"Hopefully, those police officers can play a role..."
He turned around.
The moment Anderson turned around, his right hand instinctively went to the holster on his waist—the closed door had somehow become ajar, and a stranger shrouded in shadow, whose face was indistinct even under the light, was sitting in the guest chair.
"Relax, Captain." His voice didn't sound like English, but the captain understood him. A faint stinging sensation came from the finger about to touch the holster; even though he hadn't been attacked, he saw a thin line of blood slowly appearing on the back of his finger!
Is it... a weapon used for assassination, such as steel wire?
"...Who are you, and what do you want?" He subconsciously raised his voice slightly.
"This town is about to be destroyed. Something... you could call it a runaway bioweapon has arrived here, and it will soon unleash a carnage. They are fast and have a reaction time faster than a cheetah. They are tough and their carapaces are strong enough to withstand close-range shots from small-caliber bullets. They are as intelligent as a ten-year-old child, and most importantly, they use humans as mothers to expand their populations and reproduce very quickly."
A sketch had appeared on the desk without anyone noticing. The dark monster, filled with streamlined structures and curves, resembling an upright giant serpent, sent a chill down Anderson's spine—it seemed to be the embodiment of some evil force. Even just seeing it made his spine tense and his blood rush, like a threatened feline.
"...What are you talking about? What biological weapon?" He was already half convinced. He knew how enthusiastic the American upper echelons were about biological research.
“The truth,” the stranger replied calmly. “These monsters are filled with highly toxic, acidic blood. They can easily dissolve cement, metal, and flesh. Don’t try to fight them in confined spaces.”
A segmented limb appeared in his hand; its thick, black body clearly did not appear to be a natural product. Thick green sap remained at the broken end of the limb, and with a single, gentle stroke, the captain's desk was cleanly sliced apart amidst the corrosive fumes of strong acid.
The captain gasped. The severed limb, resembling a finger bone, was also left on the desk. Now, he was at least 70% convinced.
"But they also have a weakness: among them is a gigantic queen. And the queen's nesting place should be..."
The stranger tilted his head, as if sensing or calculating something.
"Using the orientation of this desk as zero point, it is located 2,400 meters underground at the 10:25 direction. If you attack that location, all the aliens in this town will be stimulated and take action."
He said that, and then got up.
"If you still don't believe me, you can contact the highest-ranking superior you can reach. Ask him about the Weyland Valley Company, ask him about the pyramids beneath Antarctica. Ask him where the famous explorer Lex Wood is now. Then you will get more information than I have told you."
The captain suddenly spoke up and asked.
"Did you kill that policeman?"
"Very perceptive, but that's not me." The departing stranger seemed to smile. "That's another powerful hunter. Perhaps you'll have to fight it too—do your best, Captain. Even if you don't intend to save this town, at least consider what will happen to those of you who couldn't evacuate when these bio-weapons completely go out of control."
The darkness suddenly burst open, obscuring the captain's eyes as he assumed a defensive stance.
When his vision cleared again, a huge, rounded shell with many dents and cracks in the middle was gently shaking on the ground in front of him.
"And, using armor-piercing shotgun shells, or 12.7mm machine gun ammunition, is most effective."
