Chapter 8: How to deal with a queen?
'boom--'
Tanaka shivered and gripped his assault rifle tighter. The night wind on the hospital rooftop was colder than he had expected, and only the cold, fully-equipped HK416 he had obtained from the God of War could give him some warmth and courage.
He saw the explosion and the flames in the far distance.
"What a loud noise! Was the gas station detonated?" He glanced instinctively at the rooftop entrance. Beside the chained gate, activated Claymore mines emitted faint warning lights. Several hours had passed since he landed, and he had been sitting on the hospital rooftop where the evacuation helicopters were located, counting down the seconds, waiting for the deadline to arrive.
It hasn't been long.
There are less than two hours left.
The long wait has gradually transformed from torment into sweet nectar, but there is still a short, final stretch before it can be swallowed.
"Tanaka, what are you babbling about now?"
He was not alone; the stylish woman, a fellow veteran, was comfortably seated in the helicopter cabin, leaning against the soft cushions, slowly applying light makeup to her face.
“I’m observing the situation, Ms. Yumie,” Tanaka explained quietly. “It seems like there’s a battle going on over there, and I think it’s necessary to take a look.”
“You just like doing these meaningless things.” Yumie added the final stroke to her eyebrows. She tilted her head slightly, admiring her reflection in the mirror.
"Hey, Tanaka." Her gaze didn't waver. "Tell me, am I beautiful?"
Tanaka glanced at her quickly. Her clothes had been slightly tailored, and compared to her previous mature and alluring look, she now appeared much more innocent. The more noticeable foundation, blush, and eyeliner had been lightly concealed, transforming her from a successful career woman into a naive and inexperienced newcomer.
“Very beautiful, Ms. Yumie.” Tanaka swallowed hard, not daring to stare at her for long. He took several deep breaths before finally mustering the courage to say, “I… I like her very much.”
"What good is it if you like him? It has to be that person who likes him." However, Yumie completely ignored his opinion: "Sigh, I must have been out of my mind. That person is both domineering and decisive, and clearly prefers a more obedient woman, unlike Yamamoto, who has a sister complex..."
She suddenly stopped, her brows furrowing.
"You didn't hear anything just now, did you, Tanaka-kun?"
“I…” Tanaka’s fingers, gripping the gun, trembled slightly. “I don’t know what you were talking about, Ms. Yumie…”
"Good to know." Yumie raised her hand, examining her neatly manicured and supple nails. "I'm not targeting you, Tanaka-kun. If you're not in my way, I'll ask that person to look after you once I've gotten to know him better. Alright, go back to your post. That person will definitely be back before the countdown ends, I need to get some beauty sleep."
"……understood."
Tanaka turned away, continuing to gaze at the increasingly gloomy townscape. Flames of varying sizes flickered again from the spot where the explosion had occurred, and an occasional flash illuminated his slightly distorted face.
The fire in the distance was reflected in his eyes.
The fire of ignorance burned in his lungs and chest.
The gun in his hand no longer seemed so warm; its cold steel structure stung his palm. The dark night before him blurred in his vision, and many unforgettable memories shifted before his eyes like slides.
He saw himself being beaten by his peers, hated by his family, and kicked out of his home by his parents.
He saw himself trembling under the gaze of that one-tomoe Sharingan, offering up his creation so that a more powerful veteran would treat him like a fart.
He saw the creation of a human, who looked exactly like his sister, return to her personal space covered in wounds, yet gave him a comforting smile, and saw his own grotesque face reflected in her eyes.
So she died; he strangled her with his own hands. Because this woman dared to pity him!
“Why should I pity you…” he murmured.
The safety was off, the bullet was loaded. The raging fire in his heart gradually spread to his limbs, making his eyes bloodshot and his hands and feet burning. He turned around abruptly, the muzzle of the gun already pointed at the chest of the fashionable woman who was about to close her eyes to rest.
"What makes you think you can look down on me?"
Yumie looked up at him with a hint of annoyance.
"What are you doing now, Tanaka?"
"...Get down." The muzzle of the automatic rifle was raised slightly.
"What do you mean?" Yumie's hand instinctively reached for the bag beside her.
'Boom—'
A gunshot rang out, followed by a scream.
The small bag containing the woman's pistol was blown away during the shooting, the bullet nearly carving a bloody gash into her arm. She didn't even realize what was happening after the first shot. But when the second shot grazed her head and shattered the window of the medical helicopter behind her, she finally let out a terrified scream.
The flash of the third bullet silenced her. Tanaka had already walked up to her, placed the gun near her head, and fired another shot.
She immediately became like a frozen quail, afraid to make another sound.
"What...what are you going to do? Tanaka-kun...I used to...I even helped you before. When Yamamoto hit you, didn't I tell him to take it out on the baby?" Tears welled up in her eyes, and her delicate makeup was ruined in an instant. She tilted her head back, her voice stammering. She looked both pitiful and weak.
The next moment, Tanaka yanked her out of the cabin and threw her onto the concrete surface of the rooftop.
"So this kind of thing is so easy to do..." she saw Tanaka mutter to himself, his face contorted with excitement. The sound of sirens wailed in the distance, then quickly faded away, while in the distance, bursts of intense fire erupted from the explosion zone. His expression shifted, his eyes looking down at her.
At that moment, he finally understood the ironclad rule of survival for the East Sea Team's reincarnators: the law of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak, and the winner takes all.
“…I have been…suppressing this feeling for too long.” He knew what he had to do.
Under the cover of night, the wind rustled.
The faint scent in the air gradually disappeared beneath the rising humidity. A sudden rainstorm was imminent. And a cunning and terrifying dark figure silently climbed onto the rooftop.
..............................
"Two more."
Si Ming lowered his gun. In front of him, two more aliens inside a residential building were successfully killed. One of them attacked him at close range and had its internal organs shattered by his one-inch punch, while the other's head exploded under the effect of a No. 12 high-explosive shotgun shell.
In this way, he had killed a total of eight aliens—eight adults, a number roughly equivalent to the total number of East Sea Team members excluding himself. As for the larvae and facehuggers that he casually killed along the way, there were at least twenty of them.
The returns were good, and the timing was perfect.
The sound of a clock chiming reached his ears. As Si Ming stepped out of the house, which had no survivors, he heard the 10 p.m. announcement.
‘Boom—! ’
Not far away, another violent explosion occurred. The sound of the explosion was mixed with dense gunfire and the bursts of rapid-fire cannons.
It's the National Guard.
They had been mobilized and successfully located the central sewer system where the Alien Queen was located—after some unnecessary, probing sacrifices, the captain in charge of the operation received clearance to use heavy firepower. Thus, before the Alien Queen could escape, the entire area's sewer system was detonated with high explosives.
The original plot would have been completely disrupted. With Simin's warning and intervention, the city's nuclear power plant, which would have been affected by the battle between the Xenomorphs and Predators, would likely have remained intact. And if the massive blackout hadn't occurred, and the National Guard had been prepared, the Xenomorph disaster that would have spread throughout the town in an instant, forcing the US authorities to use a tactical nuclear weapon to contain it, would probably have been much less likely to have happened.
"The city is saved," he muttered to himself as he returned to his makeshift vehicle. Tilting his ear slightly to one side, he heard a gap appear amidst the distant hail of bullets.
Not much; it didn't disrupt the barrage of fire that was locking down the Alien Queen. He heard the hissing of snakes mixed in with the rapid-fire cannons. Clearly, even though the situation seemed to be under control, the Americans were hoping for a live capture while suppressing the Alien Queen.
This is not surprising; that's just how things are in America. But...
Si Ming's nostrils twitched; he smelled the gathering moisture. He remembered that there was indeed a downpour in the final stages of the movie. The heat and dust generated during the battle could have caused that downpour to occur earlier.
As expected, this is always how it is on a thriller set.
Si Ming thought for a moment, and the town's terrain map, which he was already familiar with, appeared in his mind. He successfully located the tiny gap in the fire network using his enhanced senses from his Nightfall Battle Qi. And the extension line of that gap was...
"That direction."
The car started moving.
Large splatters of water, about the size of beans, gradually shattered on the glass.
The gunfire in the distance suddenly intensified, and the roar of rapid-fire cannons and machine guns took on a more urgent tone.
The rain was an accident, and accidents are never good.
In the pouring rain, Si Ming stopped his car at an intersection and, after the car behind him honked its horn to indicate that there were many people and traffic congestion, he opened the pack on the passenger side.
The equipment was removed and the ammunition was loaded.
And as that massive 66mm caliber launch port peeked out from the rolled-down car window, some unfortunate soul stuck in traffic behind them was grumbling and swearing as he braved the torrential rain to head towards where Si Ming was.
"Hey! How do you drive! If it breaks down, pull over to the side of the road."
His shoulders were trembling, his legs were stiff, and his excellent night vision made him wish he could go blind on the spot.
'Crack—' Something was smashed, something collapsed. The next moment, from behind the National Guard cordon obscured by the torrential rain, a battered and bruised behemoth charged toward Simin's location!
The timing was perfect.
M72 man-portable rocket launcher, armor-piercing high-explosive round, one shot.
A fiery tail of flame shot violently from the rolled-down passenger window, and the next moment, the alien queen, which was rushing forward, tried her best to brake and avoid it!
It was too late; it couldn't do anything.
The next moment, the swift bullet precisely struck the polarized silicon alien armor damaged by gunfire, and successfully detonated before the acid-corroded blood could interfere with the warhead's function!
'Boom—!' The Queen's badly damaged upper body, along with her crown, exploded in the flames. All her struggles were in vain at that moment.
The Ford Mustang's window rolled up, and the muscle car stuck at the intersection drove forward. It wasn't until the car's outline disappeared into the rain that the National Guard armored vehicle, driven by impotent rage, finally arrived. The unfortunate car that had been standing there dumbfounded for a full half-minute finally reacted, staring at the direction Si Ming had gone, his jaw practically dropping to the ground.
"Wow." The unlucky guy closed his jaw.
