Reborn Before the Apocalypse: My Backing is the Nation
Chapter 44 Ultimate Precision
Chapter 44 Ultimate Precision
Faced with Gu Changshan's words, Jiang Yang sighed with emotion, "I really didn't expect this..."
Beside him, Zhou Yu was equally shocked.
For her, national power had previously been just an abstract concept, something she hadn't truly grasped. But at this moment, she truly experienced that irresistible, unparalleled, and even unimaginable immense power.
Jiang Yang sighed and asked, "How are the construction of the Senshan and Qinghu bases going?"
"Everything is going smoothly, and we can guarantee that it will be completed within the scheduled time."
……
In the Senshan underground base, You Zhicheng, dressed in a full-body dustproof suit, stood quietly before the enormous sphere, which, including its foundation and auxiliary facilities, was as tall as a dozen-story building.
Standing below, people appear as insignificant as ants.
It seemed like a creation of giants, something that tiny humans could never have built. But You Zhicheng, who participated in the entire construction process, knew perfectly well that not only were tiny humans capable of building it, but if needed, the construction time could even be compressed to a mere ten days!
The giant sphere is now sealed. It will not be opened again unless the equipment is inspected and maintained.
The ultrapure water filling has now begun.
The tanks, large and small, which had been transported earlier and were piled up like a small mountain, had their water stored inside slowly pumped into the giant sphere using a special water pump.
Through the internal monitoring equipment, You Zhicheng clearly saw the inside of the neutrino telescope.
Under the light, its interior appears to be empty, containing only a silver-gray tank, equipment mounted on the tank, and a few buoys floating in mid-air.
But he knew that was not the case.
At this moment, approximately 4.2 cubic meters of water—equivalent to about 22 standard competition swimming pools—have already been poured in.
The water was so clear and transparent that the buoys were invisible to the naked eye, which is why they appeared to float on the surface of the water.
You Zhicheng knew that if he wanted to destroy the water, he only needed to find a way to get inside the tank and sneeze at the water.
It can destroy all this water without even needing to make contact.
However, even with such clear water, it was still not enough.
The transportation and storage process has introduced some impurities into them, which also need to be removed.
The circulating purification equipment installed at the bottom of the tank is already working at full capacity and is expected to complete one round of purification in 3 days, at which time the water will truly reach the usable standard.
In fact, the water circulation and purification equipment of the neutrino telescope that is officially put into operation is always on, in order to keep the water quality in a state that meets the standards.
Although the tank has undergone special treatment, some ions and impurities may still mix into the water.
In one more day, the pure water filling will be completed. After two days of debugging, it will be officially put into operation for neutrino detection.
Although neutrinos have strong penetrating power, they are not 100% effective at passing through. A very small number of neutrinos will inevitably collide with the nucleus of a water molecule, leading to the emergence of electrons and muons, two secondary particles.
In water, the speed of light is only about 75% of its speed in a vacuum. Electrons and muons move at even faster speeds in water.
Once the speed of light is exceeded, a phenomenon called Cherenkov radiation is triggered, which emits a pale blue light.
At that time, these lights will be captured by thousands of photomultiplier tubes. By observing these light signals, the entire neutrino collision event can be reconstructed, and in turn, the various properties of neutrinos can be studied.
This is the operating principle of the Moriyama Neutrino Telescope.
Obviously, the more pure water in a neutrino telescope and the larger its volume, the greater the probability of it being hit by a neutrino, and the stronger its performance.
That's why it needs so much pure water inside. And because it needs to improve detection accuracy and eliminate interference, it needs to be so pure.
Based on the neutrino environment around Earth and the overall performance of the detector, You Zhicheng knew that this neutrino telescope could detect about 35 neutrino collision events per day on average.
"It's almost finished..."
You Zhicheng sighed inwardly.
Thousands of kilometers away, at the Qinghu Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory.
The current construction has reached its final and most important stage.
Stabilizer installation.
The Qinghu base is located far from the city, with very little human activity.
The geology here is also stable enough that there will be no volcanoes or earthquakes.
From this perspective, installing a stabilizer might seem redundant. But that's not the case.
Its accuracy requirements are extremely high. This means that even when there are no people around, a rock falling from the mountain, a wild animal running by, a car driving by from tens of kilometers away, or even people walking around the base can have a huge impact on the detection accuracy, causing it to completely lose its detection capability.
This stabilizer system can reduce the impact of external vibrations to one-millionth of their original value, ensuring that the detection remains unaffected.
After two busy days, the stabilizer installation is finally complete.
It's time to conduct the first calibration experiment.
Along its length of 10,000 meters, two interferometer arms extend outward at right angles. Inside the interferometer arms, which are evacuated to a high vacuum, two laser beams are emitted simultaneously and arrive at the top of the interferometer arms at the same time within about 30 microseconds, accurately hitting the reflector surface mounted on the stabilizer.
The reflecting mirror instantly reflects the laser beam back to its origin, where it is reflected again by another reflecting mirror, cycling through the interferometer arm a full ten thousand times.
In one cycle, this laser beam will travel a distance of 20 kilometers. Ten thousand cycles will cover 20 kilometers.
Because the length of the interferometer arm, the speed of light, and the number of cycles are all fixed, the time consumed by the laser to cycle through the interferometer arm 100 times should be a fixed value.
But it's not.
Because gravitational waves stretch space, causing extremely subtle changes in spatial distances.
Thus, by simply measuring the changes in the time it takes for these laser beams to travel these distances, we can detect the traces of gravitational waves and then conduct research on them.
According to the design standards, the Qinghu gravitational wave detector is so accurate that it can even measure the distance between the Sun and Proxima Centauri, which is 4.2 light-years away, that the distance changes by only one-fifth of a human hair!
At this moment, this incredibly sophisticated gravitational wave detection device has been truly completed.
At Doomsday Base 7, Gu Changshan looked at Jiang Yang: "Seven neutrino detectors, four gravitational wave detectors, 26 muon detectors, and supporting electromagnetic wave detectors are all ready."
