Chapter 101 1 False Alarm
Chapter 101 A false alarm
A flurry of hurried footsteps burst into the hospital corridor, the harsh scraping sound echoing between the white walls, tormenting the heart.
As soon as he turned the corner, Leclerc saw his mother. "Mom!"
A plump, pear-shaped woman stood up. She had a short-in-the-front, long-in-the-back golden mullet hairstyle, and large peacock feather earrings swayed gently. She opened her arms and hugged Leclerc, burying herself in his embrace, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Beside them, a man with similar facial features but a softer face and a neatly trimmed beard stood up, opened his arms and hugged the two people in front of him. "Dad is alright. Charles, you're out of danger. Dad is alright."
Across the corridor, another figure was squatting on the ground, hugging his knees and burying his head between them, with only a head of messy hair visible. When he heard this, he looked up at them but said nothing before burying his head again.
Leclerc looked up, her face full of disbelief. "Lolo, what do you mean? Dad's alright?"
The young man with a thick beard nodded. "The doctor performed emergency treatment, and Dad is fine now. He is currently undergoing a full examination."
Leclerc couldn't believe his ears and looked at the woman for confirmation, "Mom?"
She must be Leclerc's mother, Pascal Leclerc. "Yes, everything's alright now. Your father's heart just stopped beating, and Arthur and I were terrified. We were worried about the traffic this weekend and that we might not be able to get to the hospital on time..."
"But it's alright. Charles, it's alright. We arrived at the hospital on time, and your father is fine."
Leclerc's tense shoulders relaxed, his knees buckled, and he almost lost his balance, falling down onto his backside.
Looking up, Leclerc saw the boy curled up on the ground. The two exchanged glances, and smiles returned to their lips, but they didn't last long before drooping again, as if they could clearly see fear gripping their hearts and pulling them back to the ground.
At this moment, Lorenzo Leclerc, Charles's brother, finally noticed Lu Zhizhou standing behind him. "Charles?"
Leclerc looked up at her brother, confused. Following his gaze, she regained her composure and realized she had completely ignored Lu Zhizhou. She clutched her disheveled hair tightly. "Zhizhou, I'm sorry, I..."
Lu Zhizhou waved his hands repeatedly, "No, don't worry about me. Since Mr. Leclerc is alright, I'll take my leave now. But..." Before taking his leave, Lu Zhizhou walked over to Pascal, "Mrs. Leclerc, I am Zhizhou. I hope your husband is doing well."
Leclerc explained from the side, "Mom, this is the friend I told you about. He's the one who brought me to the hospital."
Pascal stepped forward and gave Lu Zhizhou a big hug. She tried to say something, but her voice choked up and became indistinct. She just gently patted Lu Zhizhou's back, trying to express her emotions in this way.
Lu Zhizhou realized that he shouldn't linger here. This was a private family occasion. However, if he saw his elders not greeting him or introducing themselves, Jiang Mo would definitely scold him for being impolite. Although the occasion wasn't quite right, Lu Zhizhou still took the initiative to greet them, but he didn't expect to miss the opportunity.
He was about to say goodbye when he heard the sound of a hospital bed rolling at the other end of the corridor. Leclerc noticed it first, "Dad!"
With a single call, all attention was drawn to it—
Hervé Leclerc lay in his hospital bed as a nurse wheeled him back to his ward.
Looking at the crowd surging forward, Lu Zhizhou knew it would be impolite to turn around and leave without saying goodbye, so he obediently stood aside and hid.
Looking from a distance, Hervé still looked tired, clearly having just gone through a crisis, but his eyes were bright, as if he had recovered.
With disheveled hair, a terrible complexion, and a body shape distorted by years of illness, he bore no resemblance to the Leclerc brothers. He lay pale and powerless on the hospital bed, like a complete stranger.
However, those clear eyes could still find traces of the Leclerc brothers; even the torment of illness could not extinguish that brilliance. In a single glance, a casual look, Lu Zhizhou vaguely understood where the sharpness and resilience in Leclerc's character came from.
If it turns out to be a false alarm, that would be great.
Looking at his family gathered in a lively circle, Hervé smiled, his gaze lingering on each person with a mixture of relief and wistfulness after escaping death. Then he saw Lu Zhizhou standing at the back, hiding his figure. He was clearly not one of the Leclerc family boys.
Hervé examined him closely, “...Lu Zhizhou?”
He actually called out the name accurately, even though the pronunciation was a bit comical.
Lu Zhizhou instantly became the center of attention. He felt he had appeared in the wrong place. The Leclerc family was present, but Hervé called out the name of an outsider first. He was not good at handling such situations, but he could only bite the bullet and step forward.
“Mr. Leclerc”.
Hervé finally saw Lu Zhizhou clearly, and his eyes lit up. "Barcelona's match was very exciting. Charles has mentioned you more than once before, and now we all know why."
The first thing I cared about after surviving that disaster was... racing?
Lu Zhizhou glanced at Leclerc, whose friend shrugged slightly with a hint of helplessness. He then looked back at Hervé, "It seems Charles said a lot of nice things. I'm really grateful for the Christmas gift. My mother was especially touched when she found out. Thank you for your kindness. However, it would have been better if Charles had said those nice things to me in person. He never says these things to me. I didn't know he admired me so much."
A joke lightened the mood.
Leclerc protested, "Hey! I'm not. I didn't."
Lu Zhizhou ignored him and waved Leclerc away.
Hervé chuckled, but before he could speak, he began to cough violently.
The smiles vanished instantly, and one by one they all tensed up. Herve noticed this and patted the back of Pascal's hand as he stepped forward with concern. "I'm not that fragile. I've been sick for so long, I don't care about these two or three minutes."
Then, Hervé looked at Lu Zhizhou again and extended an invitation with a smile, "If you are still in Europe this Christmas, you shouldn't stay in Maranello. Please come to our house. Christmas should be spent with family and friends."
Lu Zhizhou felt a warmth in his heart. "I've been wanting to try a turkey feast for a while now, if you don't mind my giant stomach."
The skinny kid next to him muttered under his breath, "Turkey is for Thanksgiving..."
Hervé looked over immediately, but before he could speak, he was about to cough again.
Lu Zhizhou quickly changed the subject, "We shouldn't stand here blocking the corridor and affecting other patients. Let's go into the ward first."
This time, Hervé did not refuse.
Leclerc let out a soft breath and mouthed "thank you" to Lu Zhizhou.
Lu Zhizhou watched them enter the ward, let out a breath, and did not follow them in. He obediently stayed outside, his tense nerves relaxed, and he could finally breathe a sigh of relief. Leaning against the wall of the corridor, the fear and panic hidden deep in his heart gradually dissipated.
First update today.
