Chapter 114 Interlude Knights: Dragons and the Witch of the Stars
The sky was dark red, almost black, pressing heavily on the shattered earth.

A black sun hung in the center of the sky, its edge edged with a thin red glow. A straight, blood-red ray of light descended from the center of that black hole, piercing the thick celestial canopy and flowing into the earth.

Time and spacetime are disordered here.

The dilapidated buildings looked as if they had been torn apart by a tremendous force and then carelessly discarded: half a pillar pointed diagonally to the sky, a broken tower leaned to one side, and only a small section of the lonely spire remained.

Below lay a field strewn with weapons. Countless knives, swords, spears, and halberds were densely packed into the scorched earth, their blades reflecting the dark red light of the sky.

But in the desolate wilderness of swords and blades, white and red flowers bloom.

Deep within the flower bushes sat a knight. His head was bowed, covered by a heavy helmet and clad in scarred armor.

A huge, twisted spiral sword pierced through the center of his head.

The sword pierced through his helmet, skull, and breastplate, embedding itself deep in the earth beneath him, pinning him firmly to the spot. Dark red flames erupted from where the sword met his head, silently spreading and burning along his armor.

She is coming.

Her long, icy blue hair cascaded over her shoulders, colder than the deepest night. Her pristine white dress, its wide hem flowing, brushed against the scorched earth and the red and white flowers. A cloak billowed behind her like a draped curtain of night. Beneath her snow-white pointed hat, her face was obscured, like the dark moon that had traversed the ancient sky for ages.

She is the embodiment of the dark moon, walking in the frozen twilight.

She slowly passed behind the burning knight who was pinned to the ground by the spiraling greatsword.

There was no stopping.

The burning knight bowed his head, dark red flames dancing on his armor. The twisted, spiraling sword pierced his very being, its blade flowing with flames. He was a silent monument, slowly being consumed by the flames.

And she, this snow-white witch, merely glided past him indifferently. Her empty gaze seemed to pierce through the frozen space and time before her, casting its light on some more distant, colder, and more unknowable place.

"Humph."

A low, cold laugh rang out.

It was issued by the knight.

Lani stopped in her tracks.

The pure white pointed hat was tilted slightly, and an invisible gaze fell on the burning "monument".

"How's it going?" the knight asked, his voice tinged with the crackling of flames. The witch remained silent for a long time.

"Perhaps... this is the last cycle."

The voice was ethereal, devoid of any emotion.

The knight's head twitched slightly; he seemed to want to move, but the piercing sword held him still, and he eventually gave up.

"I hope."

he whispered.

The flames crawled silently across his body.

"Are the 'ash' fragments on my body still working?" the knight's voice echoed intermittently amidst the flames.

"Yes, 'Ash' is compatible with 'Faded Ones' and is very stable."

"Is it."

Another low laugh followed.

"Who would have thought that the ashes left after the fire could be put to good use?"

The laughter subsided, and the voice grew lower and hoarse.

"Hurry, Witch of the Moon. She... is about to awaken."

"Is it."

Lani looked up.

Atop the sky, an altar hung upside down!
Stone pillars, inscribed with runes, support the inverted sky. Eternal storms surge and roar between the pillars, churning up fragments of shattered spacetime.

At the center of the altar, a being resides.

His wings were folded, like a mountain range embraced by an embrace, covered with scales like ancient rocks. Two majestic heads hung heavily from the inverted pedestal, silently looking down at the broken, upside-down world below.

Its very existence exudes an ancient majesty that seems to have frozen time, like a king at the beginning of the world!
