Lu Mingfei, become the King of Elden!

Chapter 189 Where are the heroes?

Chapter 189 Where are the heroes?
Passing through the Temple of the Thrias Chair and following the tree roots upwards, you'll find the path leading to the church on the cliff.

This road is not easy to walk.

Although there were no enemies on the road, as the two walked, a huge magic circle suddenly appeared on the ground ahead, followed by a huge iron ball that rolled towards them like a living thing.

If O'Neil hadn't been quick enough to pull Lu Mingfei back, he would probably be known as "Lu Mingfei Sauce" spread out evenly on the ground by now.

This magic circle appeared in one place after another along the long mountain path, which greatly increased the difficulty for them to climb the mountain.

Fortunately, we finally reached the top of the cliff safely and saw the dilapidated little church not far away.

Lu Mingfei looked into the distance and saw two greyish-white figures guarding the church entrance. He pointed at them and said:

"Those two...are they corrupt relatives? Are they guarding the church?"

O'Neal nodded slowly:
"They're those disgusting worms that serve corruption. Kid, it seems the little girl you're trying to save is no ordinary person."

Lu Mingfei didn't speak, but simply drew the Knox Fluid Sword from his waist, its blade gleaming with a strange silver light.

The Corrupted Kin are not very strong; as long as you dodge their deadly silk threads and their rapid attacks, you can kill them with a single blow.

In this situation, it's perfect for trying out a "new toy".

O'Neill glanced at him but didn't say anything.

As the two prepared to meet the enemy, the two corrupted creatures seemed to have also noticed the intruders, hissing and beginning to wriggle towards them.

Undeterred, O'Neill let out a low shout, and the light of the military flag once again enveloped his muscular body, and also covered Lu Mingfei.

"Go ahead, kid. They're just two little bugs. Don't tell me you can't handle them."

Lu Mingfei charged forward, his alien sword retracting and extending freely, flashing silver light as he stabped at his subordinates with a cunning move. He then sidestepped the white silkworm threads that were being shot at him and swung his sword again with a backhand.

With the blessing of the military flag, the two corrupt relatives were quickly suppressed and killed by Lu Mingfei, turning into corpses.

The battle ended quickly.

Having overcome the guards, the two were able to enter the small chapel on the cliff.

The interior of the church was even more dilapidated than Lu Mingfei had imagined. The walls were crumbling, the bricks were rotten, and even the statue of the goddess Marika was eroded beyond recognition by the crimson decay.

A red-haired girl leaned against the wall, with a tattered cloth under her, and was making sounds of pain, as if she was being tormented by an invisible disease.

Her eyes were closed, her face was pale, her dark red hair was disheveled and covered in dust, her breathing was weak and disordered, and below her shoulder there was only a gruesome fracture, with dried blood clearly visible. The remaining fragments of clothing barely covered the wound, but the hideous cross-section was still visible.

A nauseating crimson putrefaction writhed slightly at the edge of the wound.

The girl's body was covered in crimson decay, which frantically gnawed at and tormented her flesh, mind, and will.

That old bastard Gewei… The image of that mysterious sage flashed through Lu Mingfei’s mind in an instant.

He said something about "a bunch of ignorant bastards diligently caring for her, treating her... no, her putrid disease as a god to be worshipped," so that's what he meant?
This is not offering support, it's clearly a sacrifice! It's treating a living person as a breeding ground for corruption!

The girl's body was unusually viscous, so much so that no living person could bear it; the girl seemed to have a special constitution.

But the suffering caused by corruption did not lessen in the slightest; she was constantly tormented and on the verge of collapse.

"Millicent?"

Lu Mingfei tentatively approached and whispered the girl's name.

Her current appearance bears no resemblance to the heroic bearing she displayed when they met in the swamp, wielding the Flowing Water Sword Technique; she now only evokes pity. "Who...who are you? Whoever you are, you'd better get away from me. The crimson decay within me is writhing..."
"This is a curse; it's not something ordinary people should come into contact with."

The girl repeated herself in a broken, dreamlike voice, her words interspersed with painful groans.

Even as her consciousness blurred and her body collapsed, unable to utter a complete sentence despite sensing the approach of strangers, she stubbornly and softly spoke:

"Get away from me. The crimson decay within me is writhing..."

She didn't want anyone to come near this terrifying source of pollution, and she didn't want anyone to share the hell she was enduring.

Lu Mingfei stopped in his tracks.

He looked at the face contorted in agony and listened to the broken words, a complex mix of emotions rising within him.

"Ugh... What a nuisance!"

Lu Mingfei scratched his hair in frustration and muttered a curse under his breath.

This damn border area.
This place is filled with suffering, tragedy, separation and death, and the vicissitudes of fate, yet those who have experienced all of this remain resilient, optimistic, kind, and warm-hearted.

These people, if you give them a little warmth or a little help within your means, they will always remember it, and will help you, comfort you, and support you.
I'm just an ordinary loser, cowardly and weak. Why am I the one who saves you all time and time again?

Why? Aren't there more heroes and strongmen here?

Where are they?

They are becoming kings, fighting demigods, and plundering power.
Lu Mingfei sighed deeply.

He walked over to Millison and knelt down. The stench of decay grew stronger, making him feel uneasy.

Millison seemed to sense something, her eyes widened slightly, and her unfocused gaze struggled to focus on Lu Mingfei, filled with confusion.

“Hey,” Lu Mingfei’s voice was a little dry. He tried not to look at the terrible wound and focused his gaze on her eyes. He raised the golden needle in his hand. “That old man named Gewei… asked me to give this to you. He said it can suppress the putrefaction disease in your body.”

"Gerwei. Who are you? And who are you?"

The girl spoke haltingly.

Lu Mingfei was slightly taken aback, then remembered what Ge Wei had said about "the putrefactive disease damaging memories," and his heart tightened slightly. He softened his voice even more:
"I'm here to save you, believe me."

Millicent closed her eyes, seemingly lowering her guard, and spoke softly:

"I understand now. Rather than be consumed by the scourge, I choose to trust you. What do I do?"

Lu Mingfei scratched his head.

Didn't that old geezer Gewei tell me?

"To stab into the body."

The old man's voice drifted over slowly.

Millicon answered softly:

"Could you please close your eyes for a moment? I think it's best not to look at such a half-rotten, ugly body."

Lu Mingfei and veteran O'Neill obediently turned around and looked away. Behind them, they could hear the girl's painful groans.
