Lu Mingfei, become the King of Elden!
Chapter 256 The Death of Warriors, Knights, and Heroes
Chapter 256 The Death of Warriors, Knights, and Heroes
Lu Mingfei finally realized a crucial problem.
He's actually not very good at reading maps.
The craftsmanship and drawing skills at the border were really limited. If he could read a map, he wouldn't have gotten lost on Storm Hill for more than a week.
He thought about it for a moment, but ultimately gave up.
"Go and fetch Edgar."
Lu Mingfei gave instructions to the exiled soldiers beside him.
The exiled soldier nodded slightly to him, indicating that he understood. Limited by reason, he had almost lost the ability to communicate, but he could still faithfully carry out his superior's orders.
Soon, Edgar, the city's defense officer clad in silver armor, arrived in haste.
He's a very busy man now.
"Lord Lu Mingfei, is there something you need from me?"
Edgar bent down, pounded his right fist into his chest, and asked respectfully.
"Correct."
Lu Mingfei unfolded the map completely on the ground and pointed to the direction marked with D.
"Do you know where this place is? And if I want to get there, which way should I go?"
Edgar looked down at the red mark, pondered for a long time, and then said in an uncertain tone:
"This place... seems to be near the Third Church of Maryka? If so..."
He pointed to a gray shadow on the map:
"This is the Fog Forest. You can start from the Storm Pass and walk along the main road to Mengliu. After crossing the bridge, there will be two side roads. Choose the fork that leads north."
Edgar, it's really useful.
While inwardly marveling at his skill, Lu Mingfei patted him on the shoulder and praised him:
"Thank you, Edgar, you've been a great help."
Edgar smiled and said:
"I'm glad I could help you."
Lu Mingfei nodded to him:
“I have some things to do there and may not be back for a long time. Don’t worry about me, just focus on the defense of Stoneville.”
After saying that, Lu Mingfei began to count and organize the supplies he had on him.
“If you are going there,” Edgar suddenly said, “would you be willing to take a look at Hyde Fortress east of the Misty Forest? It won’t take long, just a day or two.”
"Hyde Fortress?"
Lu Mingfei glanced at him in surprise and asked in confusion:
Is there a problem there?
“Yes,” Edgar nodded slightly, “Hyde Fortress is an ancient and long-standing fortress city in the east of Nymgford, and has been an important subordinate territory of Stoneville since the time of the Storm King.”
We sent people to try and contact the Hyde family at the fortress, but something seems to have happened there; the fortress soldiers have been refusing to let us in and have any contact with us.
"Why don't we just charge in?"
Lu Mingfei scratched his head.
If words don't work, then we'll have to resort to force.
"That's the problem."
Edgar's voice became somewhat muffled:
"The Night Riders have been lingering in Nymgford, and Storm Pass has only just been recaptured. Every one of our knights is precious, and we are short-handed; they must be deployed to more critical locations."
Lord Harald said, "This matter can be handled by you. What do you think?"
"Alright alright."
Lu Mingfei sighed:
"I will go; you don't need to worry about this."
"Yes."
Edgar said respectfully.
Lu Mingfei thought for a moment and continued:
"And that Night Rider... do you have a general location? I'll take care of him too, so we don't get attacked one of these days."
"That would be perfect!"
Edgar's face lit up with joy; it seemed this matter had indeed troubled him for a long time.
“Our soldiers did indeed spot Night Riders north of Lake Yakir, near your route. If you are willing to search, they should not be difficult to find.”
Lu Mingfei waved his hand:
"Do you have any specific information about these Night Riders? I can't find them easily with just one name." "No problem."
Edgar said with certainty:
"The Night Riders are a group of knights clad in black armor and riding funeral horses, making them very conspicuous. It is said that they roam near the main road when night falls."
In the past, they were led by the "Ominous Demons," the grim reapers of all warriors, knights, and heroes.
"The Grim Reaper of all warriors, knights, and heroes?"
Lu Mingfei repeated the sentence, and couldn't help but chuckle:
"Then they can't be my Grim Reaper, after all, even their leader has already died by my hand."
Edgar immediately bowed:
"I made a mistake."
"okay."
Lu Mingfei tightened the prop pouch at his waist, stood up, and the armor plates on his body clanged together with a metallic sound.
"I understand. Is there anything else? If not, I'll be leaving now."
Edgar hesitated, then shook his head, pounded his chest with his right fist again, and said in a deep voice:
"May the storm guide your path, sir. Please be careful."
Lu Mingfei nodded and said no more.
He gave the red and blue dewdrop jars at his waist one last check to make sure they were securely fastened to his belt.
Then, he walked to the blessing not far in front of the throne, raised his hand in the golden light, closed his eyes, and the coordinates of "north of Lake Aquil" appeared in his mind.
The next instant, Lu Mingfei's figure disappeared from the spot.
Meanwhile, on the main road not far from the Storm checkpoint.
A knight in silver armor suddenly appeared, and the squirrels foraging in the grass were startled by the figure and hopped away.
Lu Mingfei took a deep breath of fresh air, discerned the direction Edgar had pointed, and began to walk along the wide but dilapidated main road, calling out his old friend Torret.
The journey was initially quite peaceful, with only a few scattered wild beasts that would whimper and flee when they saw his conspicuous armor as a knight from afar and his terrifying greatsword.
Lu Mingfei was happy to have some free time. He even had the leisure to take out a small monocular telescope from his bag—which he had traded runes for from a wandering merchant.
He raised it, awkwardly adjusting the focus, trying to see the details in the distance.
"Mobile phones are still the best..."
He muttered something unconsciously, then chuckled to himself. Here, having a telescope was already considered high-tech.
As the stormy pass receded into the distance, the number of bandits on the road increased, but for Lu Mingfei at this point, none of them posed a threat.
He didn't even need to use any complicated combat techniques; simple slashes and sweeps were enough to tear apart any obstacle blocking his path, armor and all.
He traveled with astonishing efficiency and soon arrived near the Mengliu area that Edgar had mentioned.
The sky gradually darkened.
As Lu Mingfei was pondering whether to find a place to rest or continue his journey through the night, the tranquility of dusk was broken by the rhythmic sound of horses' hooves.
dong... dong... dong...
The voice was neither hurried nor slow, yet it carried an inexplicable sense of oppression.
Lu Mingfei stopped and looked in the direction of the sound.
In the middle of the twilight-shrouded avenue, the figure of a knight slowly emerged.
Just as Edgar described, it was covered in dark, night-like armor, with a ferocious design, as if it were for someone's funeral.
His warhorse was also covered in black horse armor, and was exceptionally tall. Its hooves kicked up dust as it landed.
Night Cavalry.
He stood silently in front of Lu Mingfei, like a ghost in the night, blocking the path to the misty forest.
Lu Mingfei gripped the sword hilt tightly, showing no fear whatsoever. Instead, he grinned, revealing a slightly excited smile.
"The Grim Reaper of all warriors, knights, and heroes, isn't he?"
He muttered to himself, holding the sword horizontally in front of him:
"It's been a while since I've done anything."
