Chapter 104 Feedback from Mann's Squad
Chapter 104 Feedback from Mann's Squad (Eleventh Update)
While Chen Yu was focused on data analysis and future planning, the Mann team had basically recovered from the intense discomfort caused by the two consecutive cross-dimensional teleportations after several days of rest.
The physical fatigue and neurological disorders have gradually subsided, but the imprint left by that experience, especially the feeling that their consciousness was torn apart and forcibly reassembled during the transmission, still makes them linger.
The increase in strength is real and tangible.
As Rebecca's fingertips traced the cold barrel of the bomb gun, she felt an unprecedented sense of security; as Pila adjusted the flamethrower, her eyes gleamed with pure joy at its destructive power; and Sasha and Qiwei, while testing their electronic warfare capabilities, could hardly conceal their awe at their newfound abilities.
These equipment boosted everyone's combat effectiveness by several levels, a qualitative change they could hardly have imagined after years of fighting on the streets of Night City.
However, that experience of venturing into another world, and the teleportation sensation that felt like their souls were being torn apart, served as a bucket of cold water, waking everyone from their euphoria of power.
They were acutely aware that, within the grand scheme of this mechanical overlord, they were not only beneficiaries of the bestowed power, but also experimental subjects to be observed and tested, and tools to be deployed into unknown dangers at any time.
This perception acts like an invisible barrier, quietly enveloping the team.
When Mann was silent, he would unconsciously clench his modified metal fist, feeling the energy within it that was enough to destroy an armored vehicle, and his brows would furrow even more.
The burden on his shoulders has become heavier; he not only has to lead the team to survive, but also has to find a fragile balance between strength and cost.
Dorothy remained composed, but a newfound scrutiny crept into her eyes. She would more carefully sense the surging power within her, pondering whether an unseen rope lay hidden behind this gift.
Rebecca would occasionally fall into a brief silence after her excitement, her green prosthetic eye gazing unfocused at the desolate wasteland outside the workshop, lost in thought.
Even the most carefree Pira would sometimes stop fiddling with her new weapons, her slender mechanical fingers unconsciously tapping her knees, revealing a hint of barely perceptible anxiety.
A complex emotion silently spread through the team. The reliance on and joy of the powerful force were real, but the unfathomable future and the heavy worries also weighed heavily on everyone's hearts.
During an internal team meeting, Mann raised the real problems they were facing.
“The power the boss provides is undeniable,” Mann said, looking around at his team members, his voice steady and powerful, “but that teleportation… to be honest, if it happens twice more in a short period of time, I doubt any of us will completely break down.”
It wasn't just motion sickness; it felt like... my whole body had been disassembled and reassembled, and even then, the reassembly might not have been correct.
Dorio nodded. She had personally experienced that bone-deep discomfort, which even her enhanced body couldn't completely resist: "We need to let the boss know about this situation. This isn't just a complaint; it's important operational feedback."
If similar missions occur in the future, our bodies may not be able to withstand too frequent teleportation.
Although Rebecca was thrilled by the increase in strength, she also unusually expressed her agreement: "I lay in bed for half a day after that trip to recover. It was more tiring than fighting a whole day. If I had to fire a gun immediately after teleporting, I don't think I could even hold the gun steady."
After discussion, Mann decided to formally raise this issue when he next met Chen Yu.
The opportunity soon arrived. Chen Yu needed to collect their long-term physiological data after the teleportation in order to more comprehensively assess the impact of the teleportation on the modified individuals.
Mann's squad was summoned to the workshop again.
Unlike before, this time when they stepped into this space filled with cold machinery and low humming, their steps carried less anticipation and more of an indescribable heaviness. The air seemed to still hold the strange feeling of their consciousness being torn apart and forcibly pieced back together after the last teleportation.
After completing a series of precise scans and data recordings, Mann stepped forward.
He took a deep breath, as if organizing his thoughts, and then, in the most objective and respectful tone possible, explained to Chen Yu the team's concerns about the physiological burden of cross-dimensional transmission.
“Boss, we are very grateful for the power you have given us and are willing to carry out missions for you.” His voice was particularly clear in the empty workshop. “However, the physical and mental stress from the two consecutive teleportations last time was enormous. We are worried that this will affect the efficiency of subsequent missions and may even lead to non-combat casualties.” After he finished speaking, the workshop fell into a brief silence, with only the constant low hum of the equipment running.
Dorio stood to Mann's side and slightly behind, silently offering her support. Rebecca, unusually, didn't look around; instead, she pursed her lips, clearly still shaken by the teleportation experience.
Pira fidgeted nervously with his long fingers, while Falco pushed up his sunglasses, trying to read something from Chen Yu's expressionless metal mask.
Chen Yu turned his crimson optical lens toward Mann and listened quietly to his report.
He did not respond immediately; his cold gaze seemed to penetrate flesh and blood, directly examining the functioning of every part of their bodies.
A moment later, he retrieved the detailed physiological data he had just collected and quickly compared and analyzed it with the records before and after transmission.
The data stream scrolled rapidly in his field of vision, with lines of parameters, waveforms, and energy readings being processed at high speed.
The analysis confirmed that Mann's statement was true; their nervous systems did indeed show signs of repair after experiencing strong stimulation, with a slight decrease in the efficiency of signal transmission at neural synapses, and subtle residual stress was detected in the energy circuits of some implants.
These all silently corroborate that the feeling of being "disassembled and reassembled" is not entirely subjective conjecture.
“Data analysis confirms,” Chen Yu’s synthesized voice broke the silence, “that the integration of your biomatrix with the existing implant has not yet reached the ideal threshold and is insufficient to withstand the structural stress caused by frequent cross-dimensional transmission in the short term. This information is valuable.”
He acknowledged the existence of the problem and attributed it to insufficient integration between their bodies and the implants.
This is an important experimental data point for Chen Yu, helping him to clarify the tolerance standards for future cross-dimensional transmission of life units.
"In return for providing crucial information, you can make one request," Chen Yu continued.
His core logic is that appropriate rewards help maintain team motivation and loyalty: "Within a reasonable range, I will consider it."
Mann was prepared for this; he and his team members had already discussed it.
He glanced at Dorio, then said to Chen Yu, "Boss, we'd like to customize a weapon for Dorio. She's very strong, but she lacks a main combat weapon that can fully unleash her power."
Dorio is the team's mainstay guard; her enhanced body is a powerful weapon in itself, but when facing higher-level threats, relying solely on fists and feet is indeed insufficient.
A weapon that matches her superhuman strength and fighting style will greatly enhance her dominance and survivability on the front lines.
Chen Yu's gaze swept over Dorio, and he quickly accessed the database containing data on her combat style, peak strength, and physical structure.
“Okay.” He agreed succinctly. “Based on her combat data, I will design a melee weapon suitable for her. It is estimated that the design and manufacturing will take seventy-two hours to complete.”
This reply relieved Mann's team and brought them a sense of comfort.
Chen Yu was not entirely heartless; their needs and feedback were taken seriously and responded to practically.
“Thank you, boss,” Mann said on behalf of the team.
"Return to base and remain on standby. We will notify you once the weapon is completed," Chen Yu ordered, his attention now shifting to the technical parameters and material selection required for designing the weapon for Dorio.
