Warhammer: The Time Traveler
Chapter 218 The Imperial Guard Advances
Chapter 218 The Imperial Guards Advance (Sixth Update)
Inside the workshop, Chen Yu's metal body remained motionless, while data transmitted from external sensors flowed rapidly through his processing core.
Damage assessment reports are generated in real time: 17% of the shield system's nodes require cooling or replacement due to overload, and the overall energy reserve has decreased by 14 percentage points.
The defense was successful, but the damage to the shield system itself was also very evident.
"Calculate the specific losses. Activate backup power to maintain the basic shield level." Chen Yu calmly issued the command, his tone completely unwavering, as if what he had just withstood was merely a slightly stronger electromagnetic storm.
Having experienced the devastating weapons in the Warhammer universe that could tear planets apart, the tactical nuclear weapons in this world could indeed be considered "limited" in terms of power.
However, purely passive defense has never been in line with the tenets of Mechanicus, much less the style of a wise explorer.
Tolerating a nuclear strike was already his way of testing how much damage his energy shield could withstand in this world.
He turned and strode forward, his metal feet making a rhythmic tapping sound on the workshop floor as he walked toward the deepest part of the area.
There, the dimensional teleporter, which he had improved and expanded many times, stood majestically, its complex mechanical structure flowing with pale blue energy.
As the command was given, the massive instrument began to emit a deep rumble.
The intricate metal components began to slide and assemble as if they were brought to life, and the central energy focuser shone with a blinding light.
As the energy focused, the dimensional teleporter gathered a massive amount of energy, and amidst the flashing blue light, a dimensional rift larger than any of Chen Yu's previous attempts unfolded.
“Ignis,” his voice echoed through the space, “lead fifty Royal Guards to my side.”
At the same time, another command was sent through the dimensional rift to the escort ship docked in the orbit of the Death World: "Send the escort ship back to the Forge World and deliver a message to the Nearl family. I need their services."
The hum of the teleporter gradually intensified, and energy fluctuations reverberated throughout the workshop. The air was filled with the scents of ozone and ionized metal, signaling an impending transdimensional summons.
Chen Yu's crimson optical lens focused intently on the gradually forming spatial rift, awaiting the arrival of his Papal Army commander and her heavy guard.
-
Deep within the abandoned town's workshop, the blinding white light and spatial disturbances from the dimensional teleporter gradually subsided.
Ignis's tall figure, shrouded in dark red composite armor, was the first to be fully revealed, followed by the fifty Royal Guards behind her, who then completed a cross-dimensional material transfer.
These warriors were generally over 2.3 meters tall and had a more robust and imposing physique than Ignis.
They were covered in heavy, dark gray armor with riveting marks, and their joints were made of thick, sturdy hydraulic structures.
Each heavy guard wields a nearly three-meter-long arc spear, its tip crackling with an unstable, eerie blue arc of electricity; its left arm is equipped with a massive inverter magnetic shield, the center of which is inlaid with a complex energy core, and the edges are engraved with ancient binary prayers.
They quickly assembled behind Ignis, their movements perfectly synchronized, forming a dense square formation in the open space of the workshop with astonishing speed and coordination.
There were no superfluous movements throughout the entire process, as if the fifty men shared the same combat protocol, demonstrating an absolute discipline that surpassed that of ordinary armies.
Ignis stood at the front of the formation, facing Chen Yu, who was standing still in front of the main control console.
She brought her arc-charged spear to her side, her metal heels striking together with a crisp clang. All the heavy guards simultaneously slammed their spears into the ground, their movements perfectly synchronized.
“Sage,” Ignis’s synthesized female voice echoed in the workshop, “Ignis and the First Squad of the Imperial Guard await your command.”
Chen Yu's crimson optical lens swept across this steel legion.
"Target: All hostile units around the workshop." His voice was calm and even as he sent the information to Ignis: "Execute the purification protocol and completely eliminate all hostile targets."
"I will obey your orders."
Ignis turned and swung her spear forward.
The entire formation, like a sophisticated war machine, began to move out of the workshop.
They marched in unison, the heavy thud of their metal boots striking the ground, along the inner passages of the abandoned town toward the border. It wasn't until they stepped beyond the town's boundaries and onto the scorched earth ravaged by the nuclear explosion that Arasaka's forward observation post first detected their presence.
Almost simultaneously, the Ghost Hound troops and Lhasa mercenaries who were resting behind the defensive line also noticed this suddenly appearing unfamiliar army.
(The Royal Guard, originally the Titan Guard, was modified using the Guardian of the Faith and Titan Guard components.)
"What is that?" A ghost hound soldier poked his head out of the trench, his voice filled with disbelief and shock.
Colonel Hansen's one eye was fixed on the tactical goggles, his fingers unconsciously tightening their grip on the observation equipment.
He had never seen such a force before: such heavy armor, weapons that looked both advanced and retro, and a formation that was so disciplined yet gave the impression of a phalanx infantry from the age of cold weapons. It looked so strange and incongruous.
On the other side of the battlefield, the commander of Lhasa's squad couldn't help but exclaim in amazement: "Are these people the Sage's army? Are they trying to stab Arasaka's power armor with spears? How did they manage to be both primitive and futuristic?"
The friendly forces' assessment had no effect on Igni; she simply confirmed the markings of the friendly and enemy forces before issuing the order to prepare to engage the enemy.
The inverter magnetic shields on the left arms of all the heavy guards simultaneously rose to a precise angle, while the paternalistic resonant field generators on their backs emitted a deep resonance.
The individual, faint shields instantly connected and overlapped, forming a visible pale golden combined shield around the formation.
Energy patterns flowed across the shield's surface, emanating a more solid and restrained energy fluctuation than the large shield of the ruined town.
"In the name of Omnesia!" Ignis's voice echoed through the visor, reverberating across the battlefield, "Those who blaspheme my lord, shall be reduced to dust!"
She pointed her electric spear forward, and the electric arc at the tip suddenly became blazing brightly, emitting a dangerous crackling sound.
"Guards, advance!"
The steel formation began to advance, its pale gold shields moving in sync with their movement.
The tanks of the Arasaka front-line troops hastily turned their guns around, and the surviving "Onimusha" power armor users raised their weapons.
Shells and bullets rained down on the steel legion, but all the attacks were in vain.
The high-explosive shells fired by the tanks struck the pale gold joint shield, creating only a noticeable ripple before being completely deflected or absorbed.
Armor-piercing bullets hitting the shield had no effect other than creating tiny sparks of energy.
Occasionally, a missile would hit, and the explosion would briefly engulf the formation, but once the smoke cleared, the pale golden shield remained stable, and the formation's steps did not falter in the slightest.
On the battlefield of the Ghost Hounds, the soldiers stared in disbelief at this scene.
Colonel Hansen slowly lowered the observation equipment, a complex light flashing in his single eye.
He never imagined that war could be waged in this way.
The mercenaries on Lhasa Road reacted more directly.
A power armor pilot whispered over the comms: "That's shield resonance? Putting all the shields together? No wonder they used a phalanx... This is amazing!"
Just as the Arasaka troops were futilely unleashing their ammunition, the Imperial Guard's counterattack began.
That was no longer a battle in the traditional sense, but a one-sided purification.
