Chapter 17 Accidental Injury
Chapter 17 Accidental Injury
At the same time, Su Jerry also turned on the action camera.
After briefly explaining his current situation, he only mentioned that he had just discovered the lynx had broken into the camp and jumped onto the roof, preparing to attack him.
Su Jierui spoke to the camera in an almost inaudible whisper, his eyes never leaving the source of the noise from the roof:
"It's a protected animal on the program's list of animals prohibited from being hunted, so I won't hunt it. I wonder how my pet rabbit is doing; I hope that poor little guy hasn't been eaten by that lynx yet."
In fact, with the help of the information icons, Su Jerry knew that the snowshoe rabbit cub was still alive and well, and must have been hiding under the dead branches to escape the disaster.
When he was building the shelter, he specially made door bolts, wooden plugs, and roof posts to prevent bear attacks at night.
Given the size of the Canadian lynx, it certainly couldn't break in through the doorway, so his only concern was that as the lynx walked around, it would break the branches, hay, and tarpaulin covering the roof.
The thought of not having spotted it beforehand, and then suddenly turning around as he walked out the door to find the lynx leaping off the roof and lunging at his head with its mouth wide open, sent chills down Su Jerry's spine. It felt like something out of an adventure or thriller movie.
Even if he didn't die, the injury was still hard for him to accept. After all, in the wilderness, if he got injured and infected and didn't receive timely treatment, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Despite their usual diet of small mammals like rabbits and muskrats, the Canadian lynx can be quite ferocious when hungry, daring to hunt wolves, especially animals that have never had contact with humans. They are both ignorant and fearless.
Paying close attention to the movements above, Su Jerry clearly saw that as the lynx moved, a section of the roof of his shelter dented slightly, making a sound like a tree branch breaking.
Although the roof is supported by several wooden beams tied with steel cables, making it difficult for it to collapse as a whole, damage to these beams would still affect its insulation performance.
Realizing he could no longer let the lynx roam freely, Su Jerry decisively picked up an axe, banged on the wooden door, and shouted with his head held high:
Hey! Get out of the way!!!
The lynx standing on the roof was clearly startled, and ran a few steps, shaking off the moss and hay used to fill the gaps.
However, the lynx was not scared away. Instead, it continued to squat on top of the wooden door of the shelter, clearly unwilling to let go of Su Jerry, this "strange prey".
There was still plenty of food, and fish were easy to catch in winter, so for Su Jerry, killing the lynx was optional.
The sound of knocking on the wooden door was actually intended to scare the lynx away.
However, Su Jerry never expected that this lynx would be so bold as to show no gratitude whatsoever, seemingly determined to make him its prey.
Su Jerry looked at the action camera and then laughed:
"It's still there, guarding above my wooden door; it's a signal to prepare for hunting."
"Canadian lynxes are very cautious and should usually be scared away. It looks like it's really hungry."
“I have no doubt that if I open the door and walk out now, it will pounce on me…”
Seeing that the lynx had been perched on the roof for over an hour without leaving, Su Jierui lost his patience.
He came up with a plan: to use the leftover fish liver from last night to lure the lynx away from its prey and create a suitable distance for him to strike.
Gently remove the wooden plug at the bottom of the door, then remove the top post and pull open the bolt.
With one hand holding an axe, Su Jierui suddenly opened the door with the other, threw out a piece of cooked fish liver the size of an egg, and then quickly closed the door again, propping it up with the pillar.
Through the crack in the wooden door, he could clearly see the lynx standing on the roof, peering down as the door closed.
This Canadian lynx appears to have just survived a fierce battle. As the "battle ceiling" among small to medium-sized felines, it has bright red scratch marks on its nose and its eyes are fierce yet reveal a disheveled state.
"It's injured? No wonder, pain and hunger can make animals lose their minds."
Su Jierui was very dedicated; even in this situation, he continued to diligently film footage for the production team. Two minutes later, the lynx on the roof finally couldn't resist the temptation of the fish liver and jumped down to check it out.
Su Jerry then raised his bow and arrow, and then lowered his voice to say:
"If I fight it, it could hurt me. It'll be 100 days in two days, and I don't want any accidents to happen during that time..."
The voice just fell.
He opened the door a crack, then aimed an arrow at the lynx that was eating fish liver, planning to aim at the open space next to it for one last deterrent.
I just threw the fish liver with all my might, and the two were seven or eight meters apart. I drew my bow and aimed, and the arrow flew straight out with a "whoosh!"
As luck would have it, the lynx hadn't forgotten that its real prey was hiding in the sanctuary, and just then it happened to look up at the sanctuary!
The arrow grazed its neck as it flew away, leaving a trace of blood on the snow.
Suddenly startled, the lynx let out a short hiss and instinctively took off running, frantically running behind the woodpile before disappearing into the snowy forest.
"broken!"
Su Jierui was also stunned, not knowing what to say. After thinking it over, he felt that the lynx was just unlucky.
Thinking that he might have already suffered a fatal injury and might not survive after escaping, he grabbed his bow and arrows and headed out the door to check the situation.
After walking only a few steps, he was choked by a large blast of cold air and started coughing. He then returned to the shelter, grabbed his scarf, hat, and action camera, and also picked up his axe, intending to find some dead trees.
Following the direction the lynx had fled, he slowly made his way through the snow, explaining as he went:
"I clearly aimed at the open ground, but it suddenly raised its head and was grazed by my arrow."
"If they run away, that's fine, but they probably won't dare to come to my camp again."
"I must say, the snow scene in the forest is truly beautiful. Every snapshot could be used as a computer wallpaper. I hope I can encounter another grouse."
After walking for a while in the snowy forest, we didn't see the Canada lynx, but there were footprints on the ground. Following the direction of the footprints, it was easy to continue tracking it.
After getting up in the morning, he hurriedly skipped brushing his teeth, eating breakfast, and drinking water. He grabbed a handful of loose, soft snow from the side, pulled open his scarf, stuffed it into his mouth to moisten his throat, and continued walking.
He walked more than a kilometer, so tired he was out of breath. Holding an action camera, he said:
"There were lynx footprints on the ground, and the traces of blood had disappeared. It seems that the severe cold had quickly congealed its wounds. This is a stroke of luck amidst misfortune; it should be able to survive."
The voice just fell.
Suddenly, Su Jierui noticed a lot of messy wolf footprints on the ground, which made his heart jump into his throat. He quickly checked the surrounding situation and fortunately found no trace of wolves.
"I didn't hear any wolves howling at night, were you just passing by?"
Just as this thought crossed Su Jerry's mind, and he was hesitating about whether to give up and return to the camp for breakfast, he saw a black dot lying motionless on the snow in the valley ahead.
Judging from its enormous size, it was clearly not a lynx.
Following the wolf tracks, they approached the fallen animal and discovered it was a musk ox, already frozen stiff!
