Let's start over, Your Majesty.

Chapter 2 An Era of Tremendous Change

Chapter 2 An Era of Tremendous Change

"Ugh"

Rean sighed deeply in his heart.

Then his stomach started growling.

"So hungry."

Just then, the elf woke up, raised his head, rubbed his sleepy eyes, and saw Rean staring wide-eyed at him on the bed.

"Baby, you're awake!"

Rean wanted to say he wanted to eat, but could only make shouting noises.

The elf picked him up.

"Why are you making such a fuss? Are you hungry?"

She brought over a bowl of pale yellow, steaming soup, scooped up a little with a small spoon, and brought it to his lips.

"Here, eat up. This is corn porridge I made with chicken broth," she said eagerly.

"Are you kidding me? Feeding this to a newborn?" Rean's lips twitched.

Putting aside the fact that he has no teeth, his fragile throat and stomach certainly wouldn't be able to digest this kind of thing.

This elf has absolutely no experience in raising children!
"Why don't you eat?"

Seeing that the baby didn't react, she tilted her head and said, "By the way, newborn babies need to be breastfed, right?"

She looked down at her chest and noticed a problem, as did Rean.

"I don't think I have any breast milk."

"Oh no, we're going to starve to death."

"Oh, right!" the elf suddenly remembered something. "Mrs. Bell next door also gave birth to a baby last month. Shall I take you to her for help?"

As the elf spoke, she picked him up with a blanket and ran out.

Rean then realized that this was a two-story wooden house, simply decorated, with sparse but complete furniture. Apart from the elf, he did not see any other family members.

The elf carried him downstairs, through the living room which smelled faintly of tea, pushed open the door, and ran outside.

"Jingle Bell!"

A sharp ringing bell made Rean look up. He saw a man dressed as a postman riding a bicycle and quickly passing by the elf.

"Hey! Yumilia! Watch where you're going!" the postman shouted.

"I'm sorry, Uncle Gru!"

The elf called Yumilia spoke quickly, but did not stop running forward. The postman's voice came from behind:

"Where did you get this little kid from?!"

“I found it!” Yumilia exclaimed.

Rean stared wide-eyed in surprise at the postman's bicycle:
"That's a bicycle?"

It's unbelievable that a product of the Industrial Revolution has already appeared?

The era has been pushed back at least several hundred years, hasn't it?
He looked around and saw that it was just a small village, peaceful and serene, with cobblestone paths, wooden houses, and small courtyards enclosed by fences in front of each house.

Yumilia carried him and ran into a small courtyard.

"Mrs. Belle! Mrs. Belle!"

The door opened, revealing a woman wearing a wide-sleeved sweater. Her bright red hair was tied in a braid and placed in front of her. She had a gentle appearance and looked like a kind-hearted housewife.

"What's wrong, Yumilia? Where did this little baby come from?"

Mrs. Bell exclaimed in surprise when she saw him.

"I found this while picking mushrooms in the back mountain. It was still an egg when I found it! I held it on the bed all night, and it hatched this morning!" Yumilia said happily, holding up Rean.

"Hatched?" Mrs. Bell seemed a little confused.

"She really thinks I'm nothing," Rean thought helplessly.

“He’s hungry now, and I don’t have any breast milk. Could you please feed him, Mrs. Bell?” Yumilia said.

"Oh, I see. Then please come in first."

Yumilia carried him inside. Compared to the elves' homes, this family's decorations were much more elaborate, with decorative paintings on the walls, a fluffy carpet on the floor, and several pots of bright flowers on the windowsill.

There was a cradle next to the sofa, and another baby was fast asleep inside.

Mrs. Bell took Rean from her and began to breastfeed him. Rean, who had been hungry for a long time, didn't care about anything else and struggled to absorb the life-giving nutrients.

The emperor is having his meal.
After eating, the baby's face showed a happy expression.

Two loving gazes fell upon him.

"So cute." Yumilia couldn't resist and kissed his chubby cheek.

Rean's face fell instantly.

"Foolish elf! Do you know what you're doing! How dare you tarnish the glory of the empire!"

"Hey? Why are you crying? I'm sorry, did I scare you?" Yumilia quickly picked him up and rocked and coaxed him. It took a while for Rean to stop fuming, his little face still looking unhappy.

“This child is really beautiful,” Mrs. Bell said, looking him over.

“It’s a boy,” Yumilia said.

"By the way, Yumilia, how exactly did you find him?" Mrs. Bell asked.

“It was... in the back of the mountain, inside a tree hollow,” Yumilia recalled.

"I originally went to pick mushrooms, but when I parted the grass, I found such a big egg in the tree hole. It sounded like a baby was crying inside, so I took it back and held it in my arms overnight. It hatched."

Rean, who had picked up the cocoon on the mountain, was processing this information. It seemed that the cocoon had likely already been lost, not through any resale or other means.

"A person hatched from an egg?" Mrs. Bell was still somewhat skeptical. "Speaking of which, only dragonborn and some beastmen can hatch from eggs, right? Him?"

Rean was picked up and examined, but he did not have any demi-human characteristics.

“That’s really strange,” Mrs. Bell murmured.

“I don’t care what race he is. From now on, he is my child.” Yumilia took Rean from Mrs. Bell and hugged him gently.

“I had a dream just two days ago, in which I saw a tall knight in full armor, and then I found him! So, I think this must be a gift from heaven!” Yumilia said with great conviction.

She looked at Rean tenderly, her eyes filled with affection: "He is a little knight sent to me by heaven."

"From emperor to knight, how many times is that difference?" Rean thought to himself, speechless.

"I've been alone for over twenty years, and now I finally have someone to keep me company."

She rubbed her soft cheek against Rean's chubby face.

Mrs. Bell looked at her helplessly and said, "Being a single parent is very tough."

"It's okay, I'll work hard! I'll find a job, support his education, and raise him to be a great scholar, a truly upright man!"

Yumilia said with boundless anticipation.

"Oh, you child," Mrs. Bell said, shaking her head with a smile at her enthusiasm.

"Then I'll save two bottles of breast milk for you from now on."

"Really? Thank you so much, Mrs. Bell!"

Yumilia hugged Rean and bowed to Mrs. Bell.

"It's alright, don't be so polite with me. There will be plenty more anyway, and Chopper won't be able to finish it all," Mrs. Bell said with a smile.

"Then remember to get him an ID card. You're an elf, and if he can get elf status, he'll receive much better social welfare benefits in the future," Mrs. Bell said.

"Oh, and by the way, have you named the child yet?"

"A name?" Yumilia tilted her head. "It hasn't been chosen yet."

"Before we go, let's give him a name first?" Mrs. Bell said with a smile. "Think about it carefully; a good name is very important."

“Yes!” Yumilia nodded vigorously.

Mrs. Bell taught her many tips for caring for a baby, such as patting his back to help him burp after feeding, having him sleep on his back, keeping the bath water at a suitable temperature, massaging his body frequently, and various baby care products.
As they were talking, Rean was nearby and heard modern terms such as post office, running water, radio, and community security.

However, they did not provide any information about their own country or the current world situation.

Rean could already deduce that, if the current era were converted to his previous life, it would be either the Edwardian period or the end of the Victorian era.

"If I weren't originally a transmigrator, and hadn't completely forgotten my experiences from the previous world, I would definitely be confused now,"

Rean sighed silently; it seemed the situation was worse than he had imagined.

The times have undergone major changes, and the old empires are bound to suffer to some extent. Even if they don't perish, they probably won't fare much better.

If his status as a remnant of the previous dynasty is exposed, won't he be purged?
Feeling lost about the future at such a young age.

However, I feel like I'm overthinking it. If someone in the 21st century were to shout on the street that they were the resurrected Qin Shi Huang, they'd probably just be considered mentally ill.
