Chapter 332 The Small Village of My Hometown
Chapter 332 The Small Village of My Hometown
Drip!
Early in the morning, the sound of a car horn came from the front door of Thranduil's house. Yumilia, dressed in a white dress and wearing a wide-brimmed hat, stood by the car, while Caesar and Kardashian were carrying luggage into the car.
Kent was driving by when he saw this and rolled down his window.
"Caesar, what are you doing?" he asked.
"Uncle Kent!" Caesar put his luggage in the trunk and went up to greet him.
"We plan to go back to our hometown for a trip, which will probably last about a month."
"Is it your village in the South? Now?" Kent asked.
“Yes, a few days ago Yumilia suddenly said she missed home, and I realized it had been a long time since I’d been back, so I decided to go back and visit,” Caesar said.
“That’s not easy. You still have a lot of work to do at Fatis Palace, don’t you?” Kent asked.
“I took leave, using my annual leave in advance,” Caesar said, smiling faintly. “It’s mainly for Yumilia. When she talked about her hometown, I was unconsciously moved and couldn’t wait to go back. Maybe that’s what it means to have a strong attachment to and longing for home.”
Kent chuckled: "Hometown is indeed a magical place, especially for us wanderers. Speaking of which, it's been a long time since I've been back, probably four or five years. Mainly because there's nothing worth going back to."
After reflecting on his own feelings, he said to Caesar:
"Well then, I wish you a happy holiday and that you can enjoy the warmth of your hometown."
“Yes, thank you, Uncle Kent,” Caesar said.
Kent drove away, and Caesar returned to the car and took the last suitcase from Kardashian.
"Alright, let's get in the car."
"Ah."
They traveled by car to the Royal Station, where servants and Kardashian carried several boxes of luggage onto their private compartment in the train.
"I'm leaving things at home in your care for now, Kardashian. If anything unexpected happens, contact Freya or Mika from the company," Caesar instructed Kardashian at the train door.
"Please rest assured, young master, I will fulfill my duties as a butler," Kardashian said.
After exchanging a few more words, the train began to sound its horn, and they said goodbye and left the station.
Back in her private room, Yumilia was gazing absently out the window at the bustling train station.
"Aren't you excited? You'll be home soon." Caesar sat down beside her.
"Mmm," Yumilia responded softly.
"It's a bit of a shame that Ita couldn't come along," she added.
“Don’t worry, Ita will be back in a few days,” Caesar said.
Ita has other plans and cannot be with them for the time being. They can only come back together after the incident is over.
A smile unconsciously crept onto Yumilia's lips again.
"Let's go home together, Caesar."
The train journey took three days and two nights, finally stopping at that familiar, small town station.
The hired moving company had arrived at the station, and with their help, we quickly got our luggage out of the station, boarded the car, and headed towards the small village in our memories.
Yumilia and Caesar remained silent throughout the journey, gazing at the all-too-familiar street scenes outside the carriage window.
In the past decade, the town has not developed much; apart from the change of people, the streets and other aspects have not changed much.
“I don’t see anyone I know,” Yumilia said.
“After all these years, apart from some elderly people, everyone who could have left has probably passed away,” Caesar said.
Even the bakery they used to frequent has now been replaced by a hardware store, and the owner is a stranger.
I returned to the small village and saw the familiar old banyan tree. The place is still the same as before, but it has become more dilapidated, and most of the residents have moved away, leaving only a few elderly people. However, the old tree at the entrance of the village is still lush and leafy.
The car stopped in front of their house, and Caesar got out and saw his "birthplace," which he had not seen for nearly ten years.
People had been sent over to clean it beforehand, but because the building itself was old, many places could not be repaired.
However, it's fine for people to live in.
The workers took their luggage down, Caesar paid them their wages, and then drove away.
“We’re home.” Yumilia stood at the door, looking at the small, somewhat dilapidated house.
"Maybe it's because I've grown up, but now when I come back, the house always feels smaller than I imagined," Caesar said.
“Really? I don’t feel that way,” Yumilia said.
"Having gotten used to living in a big house, do you feel a little out of place coming back here?" Caesar asked with a smile.
“No way, this is where we lived together for ten years. I witnessed Caesar’s birth and growth here. So many happy memories, I only feel nostalgic,” Yumilia said with a smile.
Carrying their luggage, they went inside together.
Pushing open the door, a faint scent of cleaning agents wafted out, but more than anything, there was the fragrance of childhood memories.
The room's furnishings and floors are exactly as they were years ago. The furniture is covered with white dust-proof sheets. In order to live comfortably, I had already purchased household items in advance.
Although the house had already been cleaned, as soon as Yumilia returned, she immediately started cleaning, grabbing a broom and beginning to clean upstairs.
Caesar couldn't help her inside, so he had to go out and clear the weeds in the yard.
As Caesar was weeding, an old woman slowly walked over, her back hunched. Seeing Caesar in the yard, she frowned and squinted at him. "Grandma Village Chief, it's been a long time! Yumilia and I have just returned to the village and plan to stay for a while," Caesar greeted her, rising to his feet.
"Come back? You..." She looked at the house behind her and suddenly remembered:
"Oh my! You're Caesar?"
The old woman's eyes widened immediately, and she clapped her hands.
"You've grown so tall! I don't recognize you at all!"
Hearing the commotion, Yumilia came out and greeted the village chief. The village chief was excited and started catching up with them. They learned that there were less than ten households left in the village, and the village chief had passed away four years ago. Now she was all alone. Her children wanted to take her to the city, but she wanted to return to her roots. She had lived in the village all her life and would not be used to leaving.
"I can't believe it, Yumilia, you've raised Caesar to be so big! When I first found you, you were just this tiny little thing, and now you've grown into a handsome young man."
The village chief's wife kept talking, finally letting out a long sigh: "Time flies so fast!"
After much effort, Yumilia finally cleaned the room to her satisfaction.
I must say, she really does a better job than those housekeepers. Now the house is filled with a faint floral fragrance, and all the decorations have returned to the familiar look from my childhood.
"Phew, everything's all sorted out. Sigh... It's so late already." Yumilia wiped the sweat from her forehead and looked at the time on the clock.
"I'm hungry too, let's have some bread first." Caesar took out the rations he had prepared in advance.
“Eat that nutritious food,” Yumilia said. “Now that you’re back, you should prepare a proper and delicious dinner.”
"Shall we go out and buy some ingredients now?" Caesar asked.
"Oh right. The market should be closed by now," Yumilia suddenly remembered.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. It was the village chief's mother-in-law, who brought a large bowl of mushroom soup and some fruit.
"Here you are, haven't you had dinner yet? I haven't seen you light a fire, so I made some extra and brought it to you," she said with a smile.
"Thank you so much, Granny Village Chief!" Yumilia quickly stepped forward to accept the food. "You haven't eaten yet, have you? Would you like to join us?"
"I'll pass. You two just got back, you must want to spend some family time, right? I won't bother you, hehe," the village chief's wife said with a kind smile, waving goodbye to them.
"It smells so good." Caesar leaned in and took a sniff of the rich cream of mushroom soup. "You really can only eat such authentic local dishes when you go back to your hometown."
“If you want to eat it, I’ll make it for you tomorrow,” Yumilia said. “Leave it to me whatever you want to eat.”
“Yes, I’m really looking forward to it,” Caesar said.
I dipped the bread I brought in the creamy mushroom soup, ate some fruit, and that was my dinner.
After dinner, the two went for a stroll outside the village and met several elderly people who still live there. They were all very surprised to see them return.
As night fell, Yumilia busied herself in the kitchen. She had also brought back some saffron, intending to make some desserts to send to the elderly. Caesar, meanwhile, was upstairs in his former room.
In the Realm of No Form, Ita was reporting to him on the personnel deployment of the past two days.
"The equipment has been transported to the cliff valleys near Zacado and hidden, and the main force has been mobilized."
Caesar's plan was to use his return to his hometown as a cover to make himself disappear for a period of time. In such a remote place, no one would notice his whereabouts. At that time, he could take the teleportation device that the Liberation Front had set up nearby to go to the front line to command.
"You've worked hard, Ita," Caesar said after hearing the report.
Upon hearing this, Ita pouted slightly.
"I'd like to go back with Caesar Yumilia; I miss home too."
Caesar smiled slightly and patted her head: "Once this is over, let's take a good rest together in the village, and our family can relive our old life together."
Ita pursed his lips and nodded.
“Take care on your journey. I’ll be there soon,” Caesar said.
"Yes, you can rest assured that you'll leave this to me," Ita assured, patting his chest.
I had just returned to my room when there was a knock on the door.
"Caesar, is now a convenient time?"
"Sure, come in."
Yumilia came in carrying a tray with snacks and milk on it.
"How is it? Is the room tidy up? Is there anything you need?" Yumilia placed the tray on the desk.
"It's nothing, it just feels like the bed is much smaller," Caesar said, picking up the milk and patting his small bed.
“Of course, Caesar has grown up now,” Yumilia said.
"Caesar is really something."
Yumilia first scolded, then a smile appeared on her lips.
Caesar wanted to say something, but the words caught in his throat.
"Take this time to have some fun and relax."
