Chapter 39 Anger
Chapter 39 Anger
But the fanatics of the Apocalypse Church are all madmen; they see no fear, only fanaticism.
They risked their lives, using makeshift explosive charges and their own bodies to repeatedly ram the joints of the "Baron" mech.
"boom!"
A Baron was blown apart in several joints, lost its balance, and crashed to the ground.
A dozen or so fanatics swarmed forward, frantically prying at the cockpit with crowbars and steel bars.
"laugh--"
The cockpit door was already dilapidated, and a gap was forcibly pried open.
The driver was dragged out by several blood-stained arms and, in despair, was torn to pieces.
The other mech soon followed suit.
After losing heavy firepower cover, the remaining soldiers were completely plunged into despair.
Some chose to put up a final stand with bayonets, but many more soldiers lacked loyalty and, seeing no hope of victory, threw down their weapons and fled in all directions.
"boom!"
The side door of the exploration vehicle was smashed open by the lion-man with a warhammer.
"what--!"
Lolo screamed in agony as she was dragged out of the car and slammed to the ground.
The lion-man raised his foot, about to stomp down on her head.
"boom!"
Gunfire rang out.
The lion-man's head exploded, and scalding blood and brain matter poured over Lolo's head.
She was completely terrified by the warm, foul-smelling liquid, collapsed to the ground, and trembled all over.
The regimental commander threw down his rifle, which was now empty of bullets, and, panting heavily, shielded her behind him.
At the scene, only he and a dozen soldiers remained to resist.
In the distance, reinforcements from the Apocalypse Church were pouring in continuously.
This is truly the end. The commander was filled with despair.
Just then, a piercing engine roar came from the side.
Two heavily modified armored vehicles, without slowing down at all, crashed into the formation of the Apocalypse Cult members.
"Boom - click!"
Flesh and blood are no match for steel; the fanatics were smashed to pieces, and the sound of bones breaking could be clearly heard.
The armored vehicle carved a bloody path through the enemy lines.
Grey Goose drove an armored vehicle and stopped precisely next to the regimental commander and Nan Yiwei.
The car door swung open abruptly, and her voice was short and forceful.
"Come up quickly!"
Under the cover of the group leader, Nan Yiwei and Luo Luo scrambled into the car, showing no ladylike manners whatsoever.
The remaining soldiers all got into the vehicle. A wounded soldier with a broken leg stretched out his hand, making hoarse sounds in his throat, his eyes full of pleading.
The battalion commander instinctively tried to pull him up, but it was too late.
Damn!
He watched helplessly as those familiar figures were completely overwhelmed by the surging fanatics.
He didn't make a sound, staring intently out the blood-stained car window, biting his lip until it bled.
Several fanatics tried to jump onto the vehicle, but were thrown off by the sudden acceleration of the Grey Goose, which roared away.
The space inside the carriage was cramped.
Lolo was still in shock. She was covered in the blood and brains of the lion-man, and looked disheveled and utterly wretched.
Nan Yiwei was in slightly better condition, but her face was still pale.
After a while, Luo Luo's gaze inadvertently fell on Hua Xin in the other corner of the carriage.
The girl was looking at her with a complicated expression, her eyes showing fear and a hint of sympathy.
But to her, that gaze was incredibly ironic.
"What are you looking at!"
Lolo suddenly went berserk, her voice filled with rage: "Turn your head around!"
Hua Xin was startled and quickly lowered her head.
But Lolo became even more agitated, with nowhere to vent her inner fears, and she began to give orders to the team leader:
"You, throw her out of the car! I don't want to see her! Now, immediately!"
The regimental commander leaned against the vehicle wall, closed his eyes, and ignored her orders.
"I told you to throw her out! Did you hear me?! Are you deaf?!"
Inside the carriage, everyone fell into a silent coma, the only sound the swaying of the vehicle. Grey Goose couldn't help but frown; what was wrong with these people?
Nan Yiwei gently patted her shoulder, signaling her to calm down.
Lolo's voice grew increasingly shrill: "Stop the car! Stop the car right now!"
Suddenly, the regimental commander opened his eyes.
Without saying a word, he stood up, yanked open the car door, and kicked the still-roaring Lolo out.
The movements are clean and crisp.
"what--!"
Lolo crashed heavily onto the gravel ground of the wasteland, rolling several times before stopping.
The regimental commander also jumped down.
"Luo Luo!" Nan Yiwei was startled.
The grey goose was startled and quickly braked.
Lolo was thrown around, her face bruised and swollen, and she felt dizzy. She struggled to get up, but her blonde hair was grabbed by a large hand and lifted up.
"Crack! Crack!"
Two resounding slaps left her completely stunned.
"Because of you, you idiot, my entire squad is wiped out!"
The regimental commander grabbed her hair, his voice hoarse, each word squeezed out from between his teeth.
"You worthless soldier!"
Lolo tried to talk back, using her usual arrogant tone to mock her, but instead received another heavy slap.
"Snapped!"
Her cheeks swelled rapidly, and several teeth mixed with blood and foam flew out of her mouth.
"stop!"
Nan Yiwei also jumped out of the car and rushed over to try to stop him, "Commander! Please calm down! Be a gentleman!"
"gentleman?"
The regimental commander suddenly turned his head, his bloodshot eyes staring intently at her, making her heart tremble.
"You fucking talk to me about being a gentleman? Do you know how many people died just digging that tunnel to welcome your noble entourage? Hundreds of lives! They were all buried alive in the pit, and several shovels broke during the digging!"
"What? I...I..."
The leader continued to shatter all her illusions:
"All those unregistered residents in the city were rounded up and sent to the criminal camps to serve their sentences because they were worried about leaving a bad impression on you!"
"."
"The criminal camp couldn't hold them all, so they were driven out of the city! As a result, a zombie horde came, and do you know how many people died! Corpses littered the ground! How could you possibly know? You have no idea!"
"I," Nan Yiwei, froze.
"Because of your damned life laws, you let the rat-man scouts go, allowing those dead rats to attract a horde of zombies to hunt us down. Just as you wished! It's all your fault, and you too! You two murdered everyone!"
Nan Yiwei was stunned by the barrage of questions. Her face turned pale, her lips moved, but she couldn't utter a single word.
The commander's spittle almost hit her face:
"If it weren't for your bookish manners, I would have slapped you across the face long ago and let you experience what the hell 'human nature is evil' means! This isn't a place for you to go on a damn field trip! This isn't a place for you to hum songs and go on a damn outing! Open your dog eyes and see clearly, this is a wasteland! A place filled with human lives! You are just ignorant and shameless idiots!"
Grey Goose also came over at this time. She listened silently and finally understood the ins and outs of the two noblemen from the capital.
"Ah, Mommy, waah!"
Lolo was still wailing loudly on the ground, threatening incoherently that he would definitely kill the leader when he got back.
"You just wait!"
The battalion commander slapped her hard a few more times, until both of her cheeks were swollen, and then stepped on her head.
"I've never killed a woman in my life, don't push me." The commander's tone turned serious as he pulled out his pistol.
Lolo lay on the ground, instantly silenced by the murderous intent in his eyes, enveloped in fear.
She struggled frantically, tumbling and crawling, before collapsing at the feet of the grey goose, clinging tightly to its leg, her whole body trembling.
"Don't come any closer, Mommy, save me!"
Nan Yiwei was in a daze and ignored Luo Luo, who was already terrified.
A subordinate came over to remind Grey Goose that they had just made contact with the border defense district of Linhai City.
Grey Goose nodded, looking at the commander with a complicated expression, and hinted to him with her eyes, "You've had your fun, now'd better run away."
The commander took a deep breath, turned to face his few remaining subordinates, and said slowly:
"I'm leaving. I'm not going back to put up with this humiliation. Do whatever you want."
"Boss, we're sticking with you! Let whoever wants to be a soldier take over!"
"Let's go, let's go together!"
