Chapter 45 : Convergence Cycle

Chapter 45 (Short Chronicle 1): Convergence Cycle
6500 million years ago, Earth's Tasmanian Islands
Cynthia and her companions' 3D brain scans were presented to Maria and Tesla, while the Brahms anxiously awaited Maria's analysis results.

“The brain’s sulci, number of neurons, and network distribution structure are all normal. Why can’t their consciousness be uploaded because it’s incompatible with our computer?” Maria asked, puzzled.

"It seems that analysis alone won't provide the answer, so let's just try it out on the machine," Tesla said.

A glimmer of hope flashed in Vinu's eyes, then dimmed again, and he said timidly, "According to the laws of the Venus Alliance, Cynthia and the others are not legal citizens and do not have the right to upload their consciousness."

Nikola Tesla exchanged a glance with Maria and said loudly and firmly, “Brahma has volunteered to guard the space elevator landing site. He will face loneliness and danger. For that reason alone, your daughter Cynthia is certainly qualified to upload her consciousness.”

Maria added, "Moreover, all the regulations of the Venus Alliance will become invalid on January 1st next year. If it is technically feasible, there will be no legal obstacles for Cynthias to extract genes and upload consciousness."

The experiment of fusing the brain of the clone Cynthia has begun.

The connection couldn't be established, the computer didn't respond, but Cynthia reacted strongly. After raising her hand to indicate she wasn't feeling well and the connection was lost, her blood pressure spiked, she had difficulty breathing, and she bent over coughing incessantly.

Vinu patted Cynthia's back sadly yet lovingly, looking at Maria with pleading eyes. Maria and Tesla didn't know what to say, and just shook their heads silently.

Vinu wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes and asked Tesla, "Do you think we'll have a chance of surviving here when Mars explodes?"

Tesla explained that, according to his plan, when Mars explodes, Earth will be 120 degrees ahead of Mars' orbit. Most of the rocks and ice produced after the explosion will fly to the rear and outer sides of Mars' orbit, forming an asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

A very small number of fragments will also fly toward Earth, and even if some of these fragments hit Earth, the impact point will be the MAYA area behind the Tasmanian power plant.

The mass of the impact fragments is negligible compared to the entire Earth, and will not affect the Earth's revolution and rotation speed, nor will it directly impact the super-light power plants in the Tower Island and Victoria areas.

However, this does not mean that the impact on Earth will be minimal. On the contrary, the massive amount of dust generated by the impact will blot out the sun, and the enormous kinetic energy will cause strong earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in many places.

Toxic gases, along with dust, enveloped the Earth's atmosphere, making the entire sky appear to be on fire. All living things exposed on the surface, including dinosaurs, would die from lack of sunlight and oxygen.

Maria asked Tesla, "Before Mars explodes, can we take Vinu and Cynthia with us and hide on Saturn?"

Tesla expressed his difficulty, saying that there were too many clones, and it would be unfair and irresponsible to only take Vinu and Cynthia with him, but the existing spaceships simply could not take all the clones with them, so they had to stay on Earth.

“Nikola, could you build a safe house for Vinu and Cynthia? Food and water won’t be a problem. We can just use an oxygen generator to supplement their oxygen supply, wouldn’t that be enough?”

"The Victoria Power Station and Space Elevator that Brahma will soon be stationed at are expensive to build, have a robust structure, and are equipped with power generation capabilities. However, the so-called power station on Tasmania Island is different. It was built to receive superluminal energy and guide it into the Earth's core to reshape the landscape. It does not have a generator installed."

The crowd looked at Tesla with a puzzled expression, as if to ask, "So what?"
“The special fuel power plant currently in use will be destroyed, and the island of Tasmania will have no electricity, so the oxygen production equipment cannot be used,” Tesla said. “We cannot settle Vinu and Cynthia in the Victoria area and share the Brahma power plant because it is too dangerous there, and Brahma might blow up the power plant if invaders come.”

While worrying about Vinu and Cynthia, Maria thought of Brahma again and asked in confusion, "Nikolai, since we know the invaders are coming, why don't we blow up the space elevator now? Brahma wouldn't have to stay in that dangerous place."

Tesla shook his head and said, "Victoria's device is both a space elevator and a superluminal power station. Some of the heat energy it receives is being injected underground. Although the energy injected is far less than that on Tower Island, it plays a significant role in changing the landscape, and it cannot be stopped yet."

Tesla calculated in his mind and added, "Invaders are also human. They will wait until the Earth's atmosphere settles and the oxygen content becomes suitable for survival before coming to Earth. I estimate it will take at least 30 years, and during these 30 years, the energy injected into the Earth will change the landscape for a long time to come, making it more conducive to our future survival."

“I understand. The Victoria region will develop great rift valleys and lakes, becoming the source of rivers, and a surge in biodiversity will occur.”

"It seems that Vinu and Cynthia will have to continue living in the Tasmanian region where there is no electricity. Since the Earth's atmosphere and other natural ecosystems take a very long time to recover, it is not feasible to supply oxygen to hundreds of clones with the stored oxygen cylinders over decades or hundreds of years."

Nikola Tesla envisioned that while the air was filled with toxic gases, water was rich in pure oxygen. Without electricity, chemical agents could be used to separate the oxygen from the water and provide oxygen to clones in a relatively enclosed space.

Nikola Tesla's approach was to utilize the abundant natural cave resources of the Tasmanian region and find a suitable large cave deep underground.

The flowing underground river can solve the drinking water problem and also replenish oxygen through special devices and chemical agents. Grains can be stored, poultry and cattle can be raised, and with the addition of fish, food should not be a problem.

Maria finally smiled and said to Tesla, "You're a genius. My oral gene recombination and sequencing drug can finally come in handy. Although it can't achieve immortality, it can certainly keep people young and vibrant for decades or even centuries."

Maria produced a box of corn seeds as if by magic, saying mysteriously, "These are my carefully improved corn seeds. They will grow to 10 meters tall, are rich in nutrients, and have a high yield. They can be used as food and feed." Vinu looked relieved, and Brahma seemed even happier than her. The couple thanked her repeatedly.

Vinnu suddenly remembered a very important question and asked Tesla:

"After Mars explodes, how long will it take for you and Maria to return to Earth and reunite with us? Will we have to wait many years?"

This seemingly simple question stumped Tesla. Mars had exploded, engulfing Earth in dust—something that had never happened before. How long would it take for Earth's natural environment to return to normal? Tesla didn't know, so he connected to the Lightning Ball and consulted his external computer.

The answer given by the external consultant was scientifically sound, yet utterly baffling. The time it takes for the Earth's atmosphere to settle depends on factors such as the size and composition of the impacting object, as well as its impact velocity and angle. Without these parameters, it's impossible to estimate the exact settling time. The conclusion is that it could take decades, or it could take thousands of years.

For Tesla or the entire human race on Venus, decades or even centuries are acceptable, but millennia is not, because the gene therapy developed by Venusian life scientists like Maria can only guarantee that Venusians will live to 500 years old.

"When Dean Abbott and I developed the Mars Explosion Plan, we estimated the maximum probability mass and kinetic energy of the Martian debris that would impact Earth, and the corresponding settling time in Earth's atmosphere was estimated to be 50 to 300 years," Tesla said.

"Oh? That long? Looks like I'll need a big blackboard, and I'll draw one stroke a day, hoping you'll come back soon," Vinu said with a wry smile.

Tesla pondered for a moment, then took out a pen and paper and drew three circles of different sizes. The large circle was tangent to the medium circle, and their markings meshed together like gears. The small circle was inside the medium circle and was also tangent to the points of tangency between the large and medium circles.

Vinu, who had an accounting background, noticed that the large circle had 365 markings, the medium circle had 20 markings, and the small circle had only 13 markings.

"What do these circles and their corresponding markings mean?" Maria asked curiously.

“I will make three circles for Venu as her handmade calendar, and with that, she won’t need the big blackboard I mentioned earlier,” Tesla explained.

When Mars exploded, Earth was 120 degrees ahead of it in its orbit, which is one-third of a 360-degree circle. The synodic period between Venus and Earth is 584 days, and the synodic period between Mars and Earth is 780 days. If we calculate an Earth year as 365 days, the least common multiple of these three numbers is 113880 days, which is equivalent to 312 years.

If a manual device were to be made, such as rings with graduations on each ring, with each intersection corresponding to a day, then 113880 days would require many rings with graduations, making it difficult to manufacture and record.

If we define the total number of days as 365 * 260 = 18980 days, which is one-sixth of 113880 days, then 18980 days is an extremely interesting and useful calendar cycle. This day cycle is divisible by 365 when multiplied by 1, by 584 when multiplied by 2, and by 780 when multiplied by 3.

能被会合周期整除意味着什么呢?意味着两颗会合的星体与太阳三点一线,18980天除以火星与地球的会合周期780天,无法整除,780=3*260。18980能整除260,但不能整除3。

After Mars explodes, Earth will be 120 degrees ahead of Mars in its orbit, which is about one-third of the way along the synodic line. After 18980 days, Earth and Mars will not have experienced an integer multiple of the synodic period, but rather an integer multiple of the synodic period plus two-thirds of the synodic period, plus one-third of the synodic period from their initial positions. Therefore, Earth and Mars will be exactly in a straight line with the Sun, becoming a true "synodic" conjunction.

When Tesla and Maria flew back to Earth from Mars in their spaceship, they could use Mars' gravitational slingshot effect to accelerate and save fuel, provided that Mars and Earth met.

所以50年至300年的时间周期中,飞船返回最理想的时间窗口周期是18980天,也即52个365天的整数倍。

“It could be every 52 years that you return, right?” Brahma and Vinu asked in unison.

"Yes, the common divisor of the large circle 365 and the product of the middle circle and the small circle 260 is 5. If you remove 5 from the large circle, you can use 73 marks to correspond to 260 marks, or if you remove 5 from the middle circle, you can use 52 marks to correspond to 365. In any case, the product of these two is 18980."

“This calendar is so special! It’s based on the conjunction cycle of Earth, Venus, and Mars, 18980 days, which is 52 cycles of 365 days. Why don’t you give this calendar a name?” Maria said.

“Let’s call it the Short Hour,” Tesla said, thinking of Jupiter and Saturn, whose orbital periods are longer.
