Chapter 51 : A Shocking Event
Chapter 51 (Explosion 1): A Shocking Event
6500 million years ago, the solar system
According to Nikola Tesla's Mars Explosion Plan, his and Abbott's fleet of spaceships had to be far from the sun, hiding behind Jupiter or Saturn.
Saturn is farther from the point of impact, and therefore relatively safer. Tesla needed to choose a suitable moon as a temporary storage base for his genetic material and large computers for the next few decades, and he chose Iapetus.
Of all the moons in the solar system with a diameter greater than 500 kilometers, Iapetus is the farthest from its parent star. Its average distance to Saturn is 356 million kilometers, while the farthest average distance of other larger moons is less than 200 million kilometers.
Because it is far from its parent star, Iapetus has a longer orbital period; it orbits Saturn once every 79 days. After Mars exploded, when the debris reached the Saturnian system, Iapetus, due to its slow orbital speed, could remain behind Saturn for a relatively longer period.
As soon as the spacecraft's safe cabin landed on the surface of Iapetus, Tesla and Abbott got to work. The spacecraft orbiting Iapetus also transmitted real-time images. Over the past decade, unmanned intelligent equipment has built a pipeline project that circles most of the satellite's equator.
Maria asked curiously, "Are these thousands of kilometers long, oil-pipe-like pipelines the 'pulse' ultra-light wave power station you mentioned?"
"To be precise, these pipes surrounding the equator are the ground-based portion of the pulse tube superluminal power station. One end of the pipes will connect to an 18-kilometer-long carbon fiber tube, which will be launched into space by a spacecraft at the top using the centrifugal force of a satellite at the equator to become a superluminal power station," Tesla said.
“This type of vascular power station has low construction costs, but its stability is very poor, and it cannot be compared with the Martian ring-shaped vascular power station originally proposed by Tesla. Fortunately, we only need a few decades for the lifespan of this power station,” Abbott added.
“Doesn’t our spaceship carry a small nuclear reactor? Tesla told me it could last for tens of thousands of years without any problems,” Maria pressed Abbott.
Tesla patiently explained to Maria: "The nuclear reactor installed on the spacecraft provides fuel for the propulsion, but it is very difficult to convert it into a nuclear power plant. And so many of us and our equipment need to wait on Iapetus for the Earth's atmosphere to settle, which could take decades or even centuries. It is necessary to build a temporary pulsar power plant."
The three stopped discussing the topic. Maria glanced at the countdown displayed on the electronic screen on the safety cabin wall: 35 days until the Martian explosion.
One month later, Mars
The living robot Felman sits in a long, narrow control room, in front of rows of screens displaying real-time monitoring data. A superluminal power station, 18 kilometers high, continuously pours enormous amounts of energy into the Martian core.
The liquid metal inside Mars is agitated and expands under high temperature and pressure, causing spiderweb-like cracks to appear in the Martian crust. The critical value for explosion has reached 99.9%.
The living robot's eye-shaped cameras convert video signals into digital serial codes, which are then rapidly processed in the brain-computer interface on its head.
Earth is 120 degrees ahead of Mars in its orbit, while Venus and Saturn are in conjunction with the Sun, 120 degrees behind Mars. The base of Saturn's moon Iapetus is directly blocked by Saturn along the line connecting the Sun and Mars; this window of time can last approximately 5 days.
At this point, the most crucial moment to control precisely is when the debris from the Martian explosion reaches Earth and impacts the back of the Tasmanian power plant, specifically the MAYA region. The window of opportunity is only two hours.
The living robot Fehrman could precisely control the timing of Mars' final explosion by adjusting the amount of input energy. The screen displaying the window turned green, and Fehrman checked all the data again. After confirming that it was correct, it activated a special neuronal region in its brain.
Just like a normal person pressing a button, the energy control system receives instructions from the living robot and adjusts the energy input value to the maximum.
The entire control room trembled and shook, with sounds of equipment tipping over and glass shattering echoing throughout. Ghostly blue sparks of electricity flickered and danced wildly on the insulated floor. The entire control room and its machinery crackled and popped before plunging into darkness once more.
Red flames erupted from the crater beneath the ultraviolet power station, spewing thick, yellowish smoke and gas in all directions. The rocks surrounding the crater trembled and swayed along newly formed cracks.
A stream of scorching red iron erupted from the crater, rapidly cooled in the Martian atmosphere, and transformed into a giant black metal sphere.
The rocks and polymer pillars used for reinforcement within the lava were instantly melted, forming columnar cavities within the metal sphere.
The area within a radius of several hundred kilometers outside the crater is densely covered with reinforcement piles that extend nearly ten thousand meters underground, according to Tesla's design.
Outside the hardened zone, the Martian crust, both land and sea, burst open under the sudden surge of internal energy. Countless rock fragments and all the ice and liquid water on the Martian surface were ejected into the air.
Rocks and water ice, propelled by inertia, formed a torrent along the rear and outer sides of Mars' orbit.
Metal, rubble, and ice swarmed and collided, with some fragments changing direction as they bounced back, heading towards Venus and Earth, which are located inside Mars.
The 18-kilometer-high ultra-light-wave power station collapsed with a roar, breaking into several pieces. The longest section of the structure, like a javelin thrown with force, flew towards Jupiter.
After a period of flight, it was eventually captured by Jupiter's powerful gravity, plunging into the gas giant and forming a counter-clockwise cyclone hundreds of kilometers deep, resembling a large red spot. The vast majority of the debris is concentrated between Mars and Jupiter, orbiting the Sun and, over time, will form two ring-shaped asteroid belts. The outer asteroid belt, farther from the Sun and Mars, is primarily composed of rock and water ice, while the more metallic asteroid belt remains on the inner side, closer to Mars.
On Earth, a gigantic dinosaur was chewing on delicious ferns under a starry night sky. Suddenly, several large fireballs hurtled down from the sky, crashing into the ground. In an instant, a series of thunderous explosions echoed in the MAYA region, located at the junction of a peninsula and a bay.
The entire Earth trembled, and the energy waves generated by the impact spread outwards in layers. The explosion triggered fires that ignited forest after forest, and the sea was overturned, resulting in a global tsunami.
Thick smoke and dust continuously entered the stratosphere, filling the entire sky, preventing sunlight from reaching the Earth, plunging it into eternal darkness.
The vegetation on the ground was either burned or withered, and large numbers of animals died because they could not find food. Dinosaurs, who were used to warm and humid environments, had no food, inhaled poisonous gases, and could not withstand the cold, so they almost became extinct in a very short time.
Deep underground in the caverns of Tasmania, Vinu and Cynthia first felt a tremor. At first, they thought it was an earthquake, but then they realized that the moment had arrived!
The water in the underground river surged high and then plunged back down, splashing against the riverbank with a loud thud.
A wisp of yellowish-brown smoke seeped in through the sealed crack at the entrance of the cave. Vinu rushed over and used the high-strength sealant he had prepared beforehand to repair the crack.
In her nervousness, Vinu poured all the sealant into one crack. Only after she realized she had "wasted" all the sealant did she discover that there was still one crack left unsealed.
A miraculous thing happened: the crack was blocked by some kind of object outside the hole!
The water level of the underground river has returned to normal, but the air quality in the cave has deteriorated significantly. Nevertheless, the oxygen-generating equipment has still performed as expected.
Vinu gasped for breath, feeling a tightness in his chest. His breathing only calmed down as the oxygen concentration increased.
Suddenly, she noticed that Cynthia and the deer had all dived into the river. Surprisingly, they didn't seem to need to surface for air; instead, like fish, they seemed to obtain oxygen directly from the water.
The ultra-light wave power station on Tasmania shook violently, but thanks to the balancing device on its 90,000-kilometer-high synchronous orbit, it narrowly escaped the danger period.
The space station above Victoria swayed left and right, nearly flipping over, and Brahma struggled to maintain the balance of the space elevator, following the emergency procedures in the manual. As things gradually calmed down, he held a baby tightly in his arms, pressing him as close to his chest as possible.
Venus, the terminator is neither bright nor dim (bar)
Speaker Kent and the others sat around the bar. The signal displayed on the large screen was synchronized with observation satellites over Venus, so they could detect any Martian debris approaching immediately.
"Mars has exploded, and some fragments are hurtling towards Venus, probably today. Are you ready?" the old speaker said. "It's an honor to be with you all right now. You're fantastic! Do you remember our slogan?"
Black dots on the screen grew larger and larger as they approached from afar; the clouds outside the glass window were ignited; a meteor shower was falling from the sky; and deafening shouts echoed from the bar.
"A true hero, to be continued!"
Because Venus is located behind Mars' orbit, the debris impacting Venus was more numerous and larger than that impacting Earth, making it a true meteor shower. The entire planet was engulfed in flames, and the powerful kinetic energy of the impact instantly caused Venus to stall its rotation.
It's like a spinning top whose balance has been disrupted by a naughty child. Not only has it stopped spinning counterclockwise from west to east, but it has also started to slowly spin clockwise.
At the Iapetus base, Maria anxiously asked Tesla, "Mars has successfully exploded, and hundreds of millions of fragments are blocking Jupiter from getting close to the sun. Has that achieved its goal?"
"Thank God, preliminary assessments suggest that Jupiter's orbit has stabilized, and the solar system should be saved." Tesla looked at his beloved Maria with pride, and continued, "Once Earth's atmosphere settles completely, we can begin the rebirth plan."
Dean Abbott decided to send this good news to all the Venusians whose consciousness was stored in computers. He wrote:
Brothers and sisters! Elders and children! The Mars Explosion Project is progressing well. Jupiter is stable, Earth is safe, and Mars and Venus are still in their original orbits, only their appearance has changed dramatically.
In a few decades, or at most a hundred years, we will take all of you to Earth, which will be our new home as Venusians.
At this temporary base on Iapetus, I truly hope you can witness the spectacular sight before you, just as I have: the massive ice mass enveloping Saturn is slowly spreading out along Saturn's equator, forming a beautiful landscape—Saturn's rings.
See you on Earth!
Finally, let us pray together with Director Diston's famous quote:
Venus will never perish! Humanity will never cease to thrive!
