Mysterious Resurrection: What If
Chapter 115 Tong Qian's Choice
Chapter 115 Tong Qian's Choice
"I'm dead...?"
Tong Qian subconsciously raised her hand and touched her cheek.
There's only one face, but it feels real to the touch, and the skin is warm.
She stood there, stunned, her face filled with disbelief. She hadn't been able to sense the presence of the vengeful spirit within her at all, and she never expected that she would actually turn back into an ordinary person.
Before she could gather her thoughts, a flash of crimson light appeared before her eyes, and the surrounding scenery distorted and changed. When her vision cleared, Yang Jian had already moved her out of the room, leaving her alone in the familiar environment of the villa's living room.
Looking at the familiar surroundings, Tong Qian felt a little dazed for a moment.
She just looked in the mirror and then turned back into an ordinary person. Yang Jian even said she was dead. What exactly happened...?
A moment later, Yang Jian came down the stairs carrying a bulging gold body bag. The surface of the bag was uneven, and the outline of a distorted and painful human face was vaguely imprinted on it. He casually sat down on the sofa and put the bag at his feet.
"My time is limited." The scarlet ghost eye on his forehead was observing Tong Qian's current state.
"While I'm still here, you can ask me a few questions."
"I'm dead?" Tong Qian's voice was a little hoarse.
“That’s right.” Yang Jian nodded.
Tell me, what exactly happened?
Tong Qian muttered to herself, but she did not feel panicked. This was the second time she had come back from the dead.
Yang Jian opened the cola on the table, took a swig, and said, "You died in this mission, but that mirror can revive you once. Consider it a one-time insurance policy I bought for the team members."
"Mirror? Resurrection?"
A hint of doubt flashed across Tong Qian's face. All she could remember was the blurry image of Zhang Han asking everyone to take turns standing in front of that old mirror before they set off.
"However, there are some limitations to the resurrection. Your memory will only stay at the moment you looked in the mirror, so you will naturally not know what happened afterward."
He pointed to the body bag at his feet.
"Similarly, the price of resurrecting you is to unleash an unknown vengeful spirit."
Tong Qian lowered her head, examining the hands and the body.
"This body... still belongs to Zhao Lei..."
"Of course, the mirror only guarantees to revive your state when you look in the mirror." Yang Jian's tone was calm and indifferent.
"If you don't like it, you can consider having surgery."
"No," Tong Qian shook her head.
"That's not what I meant. Being able to be resurrected is already very fortunate for me. Many people might not even have a chance to react when facing a vengeful ghost. Thank you, Yang Jian..."
"You don't need to thank me. As I said, this is a perk of joining the team. Besides, your current state has given me some other ideas about that mirror."
The ghost eye slowly swept over Tong Qian, and her physical condition was completely clear in Yang Jian's eyes.
This is an ordinary male body. The head that Yang Jian had forcibly spliced on before, after being resurrected by the Ghost Mirror, fits perfectly, as if Tong Qian was born this way. In other words, Tong Qian is now a real man.
But Yang Jian was now thinking of another problem: Zhao Lei's body had already been resurrected once, but that was under Tong Qian's consciousness. What would happen if Zhao Lei were to look in the mirror again? Would he be imprinted in the mirror again, waiting for another resurrection, or would the effect fail, or even trigger unpredictable and bizarre events?
If we go a step further and swap bodies with Tong Qian or Zhao Lei again, how would the mirror determine the "mirror-like" phenomenon? Is it based on some vague, ethereal consciousness, or simply adhere to the similarity of the physical body? If it's the latter, perhaps Yang Jian could exploit a bug in the mirror's design, perhaps even achieving the miracle of infinite resurrection.
Tong Qian was silent for a moment before speaking, "So now I'm just an ordinary person?"
“Yes,” Yang Jian affirmed. “A completely ordinary person. So far, no one who has been resurrected through the mirror has shown any abnormalities, including myself.”
A look of astonishment crossed Tong Qian's face. She hadn't expected that Yang Jian was also someone who had been resurrected once.
She got up and walked to the glass, looking at her completely new body.
"Now that I'm back to being an ordinary person, I'm of no use to you anymore."
“You’re wrong.” Yang Jian shook his head.
"The experience and knowledge of an ordinary person who has personally experienced several paranormal events and twice crossed the line between life and death is valuable in itself."
He continued in a calm tone:
"Only living is the most important thing, isn't it?"
Tong Qian's fingers gently stroked the sides of her cheeks, where faint marks remained, resembling two blurred masks upon closer inspection.
One image appears to be crying, the other to be laughing, but their positions are completely opposite to those of her in life. These are merely physical reflections of her body as mirrored, and no longer contain any supernatural power.
She let out a soft breath: "You're right, living is the most important thing. I still want to do some right things. In this era of vengeful ghosts resurrecting, I want to do my best to save some innocent people."
She turned her head and looked at Yang Jian with a calm gaze.
"Having died twice, I've come to understand some things. I will no longer try in vain to take on everything like before. I will do what I can to save those who deserve to be saved and have the opportunity to be saved."
Yang Jian looked at Tong Qian quietly, and he could tell that these words came from the bottom of Tong Qian's heart.
People are always growing. Whether it's him, Zhang Han, or Tong Qian, they all struggle on the edge of life and death in supernatural events time and time again, and fear tempers each of them.
Yang Jian has transformed from a high school student who loved to fight into someone whose mere leg shakes the paranormal community. Although he still loves to fight, this kind of growth is the fastest and most direct when it comes to paranormal events.
Tong Qian, too, has become more clear-headed and resolute, moving away from her overly idealistic sense of justice.
Yang Jian casually tossed the Coke can into the trash can and said, "You can continue to work for me at my company. Of course, the salary will be much lower than before."
"However, there is another option: headquarters."
With his ghost eyes fixed on Tong Qian, Yang Jian continued, "If a ghost tamer suddenly turns back into an ordinary person, I think Wang Xiaoming will definitely take special care of you."
During the previous incident involving the starving ghost, Wang Xiaoming learned that Yang Jian possessed some kind of resurrection technique, but Wang Xiaoming knew that Yang Jian would definitely not tell him, so the matter was put on hold.
"But you must not tell anyone about the fact that you were resurrected through the mirror."
Yang Jian's tone suddenly turned icy, carrying a hint of murderous intent: "Otherwise, I wouldn't mind altering your memories, or... just killing you directly."
"Don't take any chances. I can leave a medium on you anytime, anywhere if I want to."
