Mysterious Resurrection: What If
Chapter 132 The Museum of Souls
Chapter 132 The Museum of Souls (Part 3)
Outside the museum, Zhou Deng stared at the strange woman wearing a bronze mask, and silence spread through him.
A deeply conflicting feeling tore at him: reason told him that this person was of unknown origin and highly suspicious, but a deeper, almost instinctive intuition made it difficult for him to feel any real hostility towards him, and he even subconsciously wanted to regard him as one of his own.
It's just a name, why can't this woman say it? This in itself seems extremely unusual.
The three remained in this standoff. As noon approached, the crowds on the day off grew larger, with everyone waiting to come out for lunch. However, the three did not make a move, observing each other.
Zhou Deng did not choose to take action. In his perception and understanding, apart from not being able to recall the woman's name and background, the woman did not show any obvious threat or malice.
Wen Zhong, on the other hand, maintained the ghost domain, keeping his gaze fixed on the woman.
The woman wearing a bronze mask stood beside the car without making any other moves, seemingly patiently waiting for the two men to make their decision.
Gradually, the crowd around them became denser, almost engulfing the three who remained stationary.
Wen Zhong's ghost domain remained open. Although its area was small, it was fatal for any ordinary person who came into contact with it. Glancing at the growing crowd around him, and to avoid implicating ordinary people, he spoke up:
“Zhou Deng, I don’t believe her. I feel like I know this woman, but I can’t recall her name. We may already be in the midst of a supernatural event and have been attacked. Perhaps this is Zhou Lian’s backup plan.”
After saying that, Wen Zhong took a step forward, about to make a move. But Zhou Deng stopped him first.
"etc.."
Zhou Deng was certainly not stupid. The vengeful spirit he controlled was even more terrifying than Wen Zhong's, but the difference in type prevented him from seeing the world in Wen Zhong's pupil.
He was wavering. If he acted now, he might accidentally hurt his own people, and the plan to pick up Yang Jian would fall through. Although Yang Jian might not say anything, he still wanted to leave a good impression on Yang Jian.
Staring at the two protruding eyeholes on the bronze mask, Zhou Deng said, "Give me a reason to believe you, otherwise I won't let you leave here."
The woman shifted slightly, as if letting out a soft sigh.
A cool voice came through the mask: "Yang Jian has already been here."
"He's already here?" Wen Zhong picked up the satellite phone, checked the time, and then said, "Impossible. At the speed of the plane, he wouldn't land for at least another ten minutes. Since he chose to take a plane, he couldn't have used the Ghost Domain to come here."
"you are wrong."
The woman shook her head.
"He didn't come here now, but before."
"Before?" Zhou Deng's face showed a hint of doubt.
“That’s right, seven days ago.” The woman raised her slender but pale hand and made a seven-pointing gesture.
"He messed with something in this museum, which caused a time warp that was supposed to be moving backward, but I don't know what it is. I'm going to go find him to confirm it."
Zhou Deng and Wen Zhong looked at each other, their faces filled with doubt. This was completely beyond their conventional understanding of paranormal events.
The woman's words sounded like a fantasy. Zhou Deng's mind raced, trying to find logic in this absurd information.
He stared intently at the woman and said, "I cannot understand what you are saying, nor can I believe you based on it. Therefore, you cannot leave here. As a person in charge, I am responsible for the safety of this city."
The woman wearing the bronze mask fell into a long silence. She stood in the crowd for a long time before finally lifting her foot and walking towards them. "I am under a terrible curse. I cannot reveal too much information in the time it takes to retreat. Back at the museum, you will see Yang Jian. Goodbye."
After saying that, she ignored the two of them and walked straight into the dense crowd.
"Stop!" Wen Zhong shouted, attempting to use his Ghost Domain to stop him.
But the next moment, something terrifying happened: the woman simply vanished into the crowd.
No, not disappear.
The woman was clearly walking among the crowd, her pace slow and her figure clearly visible, but Zhou Deng and Wen Zhong's "attention" and "cognition" seemed to be subtly manipulated by some invisible force.
They watched her walk into the crowd without feeling any urge to "stop" or "see anything amiss," as if her departure was a matter of course, something that didn't require their attention.
It all happened so naturally that after a few seconds of confusion, they suddenly realized they didn't know the woman, but had been thinking she was their colleague.
When the focus returned, the woman wearing the bronze mask had completely vanished into the vast crowd, leaving no trace.
"They ran away..."
Wen Zhong withdrew his gaze, and the gray ghost fungus slowly retreated back into his body. At this moment, his expression was somewhat unpleasant; in the supernatural confrontation, he had lost.
Zhou Deng's expression was equally grave as he repeatedly pondered the woman's last words:
"The time Yang Jian retreated seven days ago... a curse."
Turning my head, I looked at the museum behind me. It appeared magnificent and quiet in the sunlight, still packed with tourists, and everything seemed perfectly normal.
What that woman just said
Wen Zhong shook his head: "I don't quite understand either, but when faced with paranormal events, no matter how absurd, we must take them seriously, especially since that person seemed to be able to communicate and didn't seem to have any malicious intent..."
"Let's go back to the museum and deal with the paranormal event at hand first," Zhou Deng made a decisive decision.
The two didn't linger and quickly turned back into the museum. It was already noon, and most tourists had gone out for lunch, so the number of people inside the museum had decreased significantly, making it much easier for them to move around.
The museum covers a large area, almost the size of a small town, and the main exhibition hall is the Sanxingdui Exhibition Hall that the two are standing on.
After passing through the dark underground passage, the two arrived at the first exhibition hall on the first basement level.
What comes into view are rows of meticulously designed glass display cases, with soft lighting focusing on the objects inside.
The items in each display case were all very similar, all being uniquely designed bronze masks.
The two walked briskly between the display cases, their eyes scanning each exhibit. Each one had the standard shape of a Sanxingdui artifact, and there seemed to be nothing wrong with it.
The two stopped in front of a display case containing an extremely rare gold mask. It was very thin, about the thickness of a piece of paper. Although it was called a mask, the shape of the eyes and nose could only be barely made out.
