Mysterious Resurrection: What If
Chapter 138 The Museum of Souls
Chapter 138 The Museum of Souls (Part 5)
"It's working!" Zhou Deng shouted in a low voice, raising his head to scan his surroundings.
In the far distance, the darkness receded like a tide, and a ray of white light pierced in, gradually becoming clear and bright.
Under the relentless assault of the two men, the withered lower body gradually ceased its movements, its writhing and twisting less and less, until it finally stood stiffly in place.
The stench of corpses in the air seemed to have lessened somewhat, and the supernatural was gradually reaching a balance.
Wen Zhong's eerie pupil on his forehead shifted slightly, barely able to penetrate the thick darkness and discern that they were still in the same sealed stone chamber. However, they were still trapped within the ghost's domain.
"It's not enough." Wen Zhong's voice was hoarse, filled with heavy weariness.
The situation remains tricky. Unless completely suppressed or under special circumstances, the struggle between supernatural beings takes time, but the living often cannot last that long.
"What exactly is in that bottle? There are at least four ghosts inside the two of us combined, yet we can only barely maintain a balance."
"We need to find other solutions; we can't afford to wait any longer."
Just as the two were on edge.
Tap. Tap tap.
A series of light but unusually rapid footsteps suddenly sounded from the darkness behind, as if someone was running.
The sound was soft yet rapid, like a woman's cloth shoes clattering quickly on cold stone bricks, fast and dense, approaching them at an alarming speed!
"who!?"
Wen Zhong suddenly turned his head, his pupils on his forehead suddenly bulging out, turning grayish-white, but he could only catch a blurry, distorted outline in his vision.
It was cold, deathly silent, and shrouded in undisguised malice.
ghost!
The thought simultaneously entered both of their minds.
This subconscious thought arose instantly; a ghost was attacking the two of them.
Wen Zhong reacted incredibly quickly. Almost the instant he made his judgment, a thick, slippery mold rose up from the ground with a "poof," spreading rapidly towards the figure like a living carpet, trying to stop it from getting closer.
"Stop! It's me!"
A cold, clear voice came from the darkness.
The next second, the sinister and twisted figure suddenly changed in their perception, a familiar aura spread out, revealing that cold bronze mask and thin body.
Zhou Deng immediately exclaimed, "What are you doing here?!"
"Never mind all that, let's lock this ghost up first."
Tian Xiaoyue walked to Zhou Deng's side, gesturing for him to move aside.
As the two shifted positions, the lower half of Zhou Deng's body that had been relentlessly entangled with him suddenly trembled, all its strange movements abruptly ceasing. As if it had encountered a similar vengeful ghost puzzle piece, it stood silently behind Tian Xiaoyue, unbelievably docile.
Wen Zhong glanced around. The darkness was almost completely gone. Without hesitation, he quickly took out a portable gold body bag and put it on.
These body bags were specially developed by headquarters for the convenience of the person in charge. The outer skin is made of an extremely tough special fabric, and the inside is filled with a layer of gold.
The zipper was fully closed, and Tian Xiaoyue breathed a sigh of relief, whispering, "I guess I made the right bet... thankfully it was just my lower body..."
Zhou Deng stood to the side and asked, "What do you mean? The upper half of this thing is here too?"
“Yes.” Tian Xiaoyue nodded.
“But not here right now, it should be over in Yang Jian’s area.” “Not here right now? Over in Yang Jian’s area…” Wen Zhong sealed the body bag and walked up.
He and Zhou Deng exchanged a glance; the two had just analyzed that the timeline inside the museum might differ from that outside.
Although their insights into paranormal events don't quite reach the level of a team leader, they're not far off and can analyze some key information.
The three of them walked out of the secret room.
Wen Zhong asked, "You seem to know a lot about this museum, and you also seem to know a lot about Yang Jian."
Tian Xiaoyue shook her head: "I've only heard about it, it's just something passed down by word of mouth."
Zhou Deng stepped forward and stopped Tian Xiaoyue.
"Who exactly are you? Or what is your purpose in coming here? This museum is not something that someone like Zhou Lian can defend."
At this moment, Zhou Deng was filled with doubt. If Zhou Lian was guarding this museum to prevent his own vengeful spirit from reviving, then at least there should be something to suppress the vengeful spirit within him.
But now it seems that not only does that thing not exist here, but it is also full of danger.
"It doesn't matter who I am."
The three continued moving deeper into the museum. Tian Xiaoyue said, "But you've got one thing wrong. It's not that I came here, but that I've been here all along."
"You've been here all along?" Zhou Deng's doubt deepened. "Zhou Lian's file has never mentioned you."
"Not now, but in the future that has not yet happened."
Tian Xiaoyue looked up at the top of the huge, empty museum.
"Time keeps going backwards, which is why Zhou Lian chose to stay here. The ghost inside him was also restarted at the same time, which is why he was able to barely maintain that state."
They walked in silence. Zhou Deng and Wen Zhong analyzed the information the woman had provided.
The three walked through the cold and gloomy exhibition hall and entered an extremely spacious hall.
The scene before me was breathtaking.
The floor in the center of the hall had been completely hollowed out and replaced with a single, massive, thick reinforced glass wall. Looking down through the glass, an unimaginably vast and deep burial pit came into view.
The tomb extends downwards in a funnel shape, reaching a depth of twenty to thirty meters. Its four walls are made of incredibly compacted earth, filled with a thick layer of white clay and moisture-proof charcoal, and it is extremely well-preserved.
At the very bottom of the tomb, a thousand-year-old female corpse dressed in a pale gold silk robe lay quietly in a huge coffin, her skin dry and clinging to her bones, as if silently gazing at the uninvited guest above.
Looking down at the ancient wonders at his feet, Zhou Deng slowly spoke: "If what you say is true, that time here is constantly flowing backward, does that mean that as long as we stay here, one day we will be able to go against the flow of time and go back to the distant past? Or even glimpse the origin of the appearance of evil spirits?"
“Theoretically speaking, that’s correct.” Tian Xiaoyue answered crisply. She squatted down, her fingertips lightly tracing the cold glass surface, her gaze fixed on the female corpse at the bottom of the pit.
Zhou Deng and Wen Zhong's pupils dilated sharply, and their eyes simultaneously revealed shock.
It's astonishing that someone could think of using the supernatural to deduce the origins of vengeful ghosts. Although this might take an extremely long time, this kind of unconventional thinking and the means to reverse time are beyond the reach of the two of them.
“But now, there’s a problem here.” Tian Xiaoyue stood up, her voice grave.
"Someone once told me that the paranormal is always full of uncertainty."
