Chapter 215 Forgotten (Part Two)

"Were you too tired from working overtime last night? This company really doesn't treat people like human beings."

The man opened the car door for Zhao Lei.

"Hurry up and get off the bus. Let's go swipe our cards first, or we'll be late. It costs fifty yuan for every minute we're late."

"Checking in? We're not eating..."

"Zhao Lei, hurry up! It's almost time!"

The man urged from ahead.

"Okay, here we come."

I followed that person into the company.

The office building was brightly lit by blinding white light, the air conditioning was blasting, and the walls and floors were a deathly gray-white. Zhao Lei stared blankly at the time clock in front of him, his mind a complete blank.

He didn't know where he came from or why he was there. His mind was a complete mess, and he couldn't recall anything about his past.

"drop--"

The man pressed his finger on the time clock, and a mechanical female voice came from the electronic device:

"Li Leping, welcome."

Li Leping? …!
Zhao Lei was taken aback, a look of surprise on his face.

The name is like a pebble dropped into still water, creating ripples that quickly subside.

It's as if something particularly important is buried deep in my memory, yet it struggles to surface.

Looking back at the path they had just walked, there was nothing there, not even their footprints had been wiped clean.

Then a crowd suddenly appeared, moving through the streets and alleys.

But strangely, each person's face had an unusual emptiness, like a corpse mechanically repeating the actions of a living person.

Suddenly, Zhao Lei looked at the street corner, where there were several people dressed in black robes. These people seemed out of place in this world, with normal expressions, clearly not belonging to this place.

They seemed to be observing Zhao Lei and his companion.

Zhao Lei was stunned for a moment, then murmured, "A foreigner?... "

He stared blankly at the group of people, then suddenly realized something.

“Something’s wrong…”

"Why am I here?"

Suddenly, a hand reached out from behind and gently patted his shoulder.

"Zhao Lei, what are you looking at?"

"I…"

Zhao Lei's mouth gaped open, his eyes filled with inexplicable fear. He couldn't remember what he had just been looking at.

The world before him was "normal," and he saw nothing unusual about it.

The man continued:

"Alright, let's go. I wonder what's fun in this amusement park."

"An amusement park?" Zhao Lei was taken aback. "What are two grown men doing here?"

"Didn't you bring me here? How could you forget so quickly?"

"I brought you here?" Zhao Lei was even more confused; he couldn't even remember how he got here.

"correct."

"... "

Zhao Lei was speechless for a moment, and he looked towards the entrance of the amusement park.

The grey archway was devoid of any lights. A tattered banner fluttered in the wind. Strangely, two figures stood silently at the ticket gate, staring at him without moving.

"These two are so strange."

Zhao Lei raised his hand and pointed to the entrance of the passage behind him.

It seemed that because of Zhao Lei's observation, the two figures became clearer.

A man in his thirties, dressed in a military green suit, had extremely unnatural makeup on his sallow face. The makeup was so heavy that it looked like he was wearing a brightly colored mask.

This person seems very hot; he's sweating all over.

The other person was even stranger; a thin crack appeared on the skin of his forehead, and through the crack, a scarlet eyeball was staring straight at him.

Zhao Lei felt a tightness in his chest from being stared at. "These two are so strange, they keep staring at me."

"They're probably just people the amusement park hired to play some kind of role. Let's ignore them for now and go inside."

"Okay...ok..."

The two passed through the ticket gate. There was a cacophony of voices around them, but if you listened carefully, each sound seemed monotonous, like the same sentence being repeated over and over again.

Zhao Lei followed the man and squeezed into the crowd.

The amusement park was even larger inside, filled with staff dressed in outlandish costumes. That made the two people from before seem less jarring.

Zhao Lei breathed a sigh of relief; at least he looked much more normal now.

"Finally in. Zhao Lei, go do your makeup, we'll take pictures later."

"make up?…"

He walked to a dressing table and sat down. Looking at himself in the mirror, Zhao Lei suddenly stood up.

He looked ahead in horror, and in the smooth mirror, he saw the face of a strange man.

"I look like this?! I don't remember what I look like at all!"

But that wasn't the most terrifying part. His gaze fell on the sides of his face, where two eerie faces were hanging.

One photo seems to be showing someone snickering, while the other seems to be showing someone crying sadly.

"Who are you! Who are you!!"

Zhao Lei screamed in terror, suddenly raising his hands and rubbing them hard on his face, trying to wipe them off completely.

"Ouch!!! That hurts!"

A piercing pain came from both sides of my face, like a knife cutting into my flesh.

These two horrifying faces seemed to have completely glued to his head, and every time he rubbed them, a sharp pain would come.

However, it worked. With Zhao Lei's force, he actually managed to erase part of both sheets.

The smiling face lost a nose, and the crying face also lost a small part of its mouth.

However, as the two faces became incomplete, Zhao Lei quickly noticed something was wrong.

His memory was also fading away; he forgot what his name was.

"and many more!"

Her eyes were filled with terror as she stared at the unfamiliar face in the mirror.

He realized he couldn't keep wiping; if the two faces disappeared completely, he might die.

The thought appeared in his mind subconsciously, as if it were an instinct. Zhao Lei suppressed his fear and stopped what he was doing.

"Who was the man who brought me here?! Why can't I remember him?! What did he look like?!"

A chill ran down Zhao Lei's spine, and he felt his scalp tingle. He had followed a stranger here without even realizing it.

He looked at the newspaper in his hand. It was this newspaper that he had used to wipe off the skin on both sides of his face. The newspaper still had the shape of a nose and half a mouth printed on it.

"I need to record this, to write it all down. I must have encountered a ghost to forget how I got here."

Zhao Lei rummaged through the dressing table, but finding no pen, he grabbed a lipstick and prepared to write down everything that had just happened on the newspaper.

But just then, the man's voice rang out again from behind.

"Zhao Lei, are you done drawing?"

It was bland, devoid of any emotion.

"Why are you wearing three faces? What kind of character is this? I've never seen this before."

Such an ordinary voice, like something a passerby would casually say on the street, sounded like the whisper of a vengeful ghost to Zhao Lei.

His blood was running backward, and a nameless fear welled up inside him. He felt that he would lose something very important in the next second.

His gaze gradually became unfocused, and the look of terror on his face slowly returned to calm.

"No! I can't just sit here and wait to die! I must record something!"

He gritted his teeth, desperately trying to concentrate and stay awake.

Suppressing the last vestiges of his consciousness, he gripped the lipstick tightly and wrote two large, scarlet characters on the newspaper.

It's crooked and twisted, yet it stands out remarkably.

"There's a ghost!"
