Mysterious Resurrection: What If
Chapter 217 Forgotten
Chapter 217 Oblivion (Part 4)
"No... it's not that simple. An existence that can affect memories cannot be understood using common sense."
"Give it a try."
Water began to seep into the ground beneath their feet, the air immediately became damp, and a chilling wave of lake water quickly enveloped the two of them.
"Woof—Woof!!!"
The water on the lake surface exploded.
A huge black shadow leaped out of the lake and landed in front of the two. It was a dog that was completely black.
It circled Yang Jian twice before obediently lying down at his feet.
Ghost Dream, a vengeful ghost capable of invading dreams, is the reason Yang Jian dared to venture deep into this place.
Yang Jian looked down at the lake.
At this moment, the image of a young boy is reflected on the silvery surface of the lake.
The boy looked very strange, with two terrifying faces on each side of his face, one laughing and the other crying.
"Zhao Lei?!"
The moment he saw the face, Yang Jian remembered, and he suddenly looked up and around.
The crowd moved slowly, the streets were lifeless, Li Jun was still beside him, but Zhao Lei was nowhere to be seen.
The three of them were traveling together, but Yang Jian had completely forgotten about it.
While at the museum, Yang Jian had left the medium of the Ghost Lake on Zhao Lei and Zhang Han. At that moment, Zhao Lei disappeared, but the Ghost Lake revealed his appearance.
There's only one possibility: Zhao Lei was attacked.
However, Yang Jian quickly calmed down. Even Yang Jian couldn't withstand Li Leping's amnesia, so it was only natural that Zhao Lei was attacked.
At least now Yang Jian has a direction to take.
"We don't know when we arrived in Dachuan City, or when the attack started. It may have been a long time ago, or even that we've been here longer than we can imagine, but we just can't remember."
Yang Jian analyzed silently.
Li Jun remained silent, pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and squatted down by the roadside to smoke. Yang Jian ignored him; Li Jun was like this in Ghost Painting—he liked to light up a cigarette when he was thinking.
"But the fact that Ghost Lake still retains his appearance means that he is not completely lost here. The thing in his hand should be able to hold him off for a while. If he is smarter, he might even use it as an anchor point to help us find Li Leping."
The ghostly hand reached into the lake and pulled out a rusty woodcutter's knife.
"Let's go. Zhao Lei is still here. If we find him, we might be able to find clues about Li Leping."
Li Jun flicked away his cigarette butt, got up, and followed.
A winding water trail stretched forward along the road, and Yang Jian used the medium of ghost dreams to pinpoint Zhao Lei's location.
However, in this place, such a medium is too weak.
The two had been walking on this street for about ten minutes, and the buildings on both sides of the road kept repeating themselves, as if they were trapped in a maze.
"A ghost realm... or has the outside world been forgotten here?"
Yang Jian stopped. Continuing on like this wouldn't change anything; he had to come up with a way out.
He dared not recklessly use the Ghost Domain at this moment. Faced with the out-of-control situation of an unknown captain, even he had to go all out and be extremely careful.
"Woof—!!!"
The big black dog that had been following him suddenly started barking wildly at the street ahead.
The two immediately turned to look.
In that instant, the air became hot and dry, and the sun blazed overhead.
The light suddenly shone down, making it difficult for the two of them to adjust for a moment.
Li Jun was about to make a move.
"Li Jun, don't be impulsive."
Yang Jian stopped him.
"Change is a good thing; at least it means that we are generally on the right track."
Just then, a bus slowly approached from afar. [Dachuan City Route 36]
Yang Jian was stunned for a moment when he saw the bus. It was practically a copy of that ghost bus, except for the fact that it had a driver. Everything else was exactly the same, even the details were identical.
It seems that Li Leping knew about the bus and may even have boarded it, but due to his own characteristics, the people on board didn't remember him at all.
"Follow!"
A thin, scarlet line immediately connected to the back of the bus, and under the influence of the ghostly aura, the two followed the bus forward.
Suddenly, the bus honked its horn once and then began to slow down.
There were several people waiting for the bus ahead.
"Yang Jian, look over there."
Li Jun pointed to the bus stop ahead.
There, a boy with three faces was waiting for the bus to stop, clutching a newspaper tightly in his hand.
This time, however, Li Jun learned his lesson and did not rush to make a move, but instead observed the situation.
He quickly noticed something was wrong.
“There was someone following him, with his back to us the whole time, so we couldn’t see his face.”
Li Jun has strong counter-surveillance capabilities and instantly determined that someone was following Zhao Lei.
Yang Jian nodded, his gaze fixed on that person.
His back was straight, his hair was messy, and his hands were in his pockets. He hadn't looked back since he got on the bus.
Furthermore, this person's behavior was very strange. He seemed somewhat unsure of Zhao Lei's identity. After boarding the bus, he began to observe the people in the seats starting from the first row.
His method of observation was even more bizarre; he practically pressed his face against the person's to confirm their features, while those he observed showed no reaction whatsoever, as if they subconsciously ignored his presence.
The ghostly domain immediately extended, and Yang Jian and his companion followed along the roadside, maintaining a safe distance from the bus.
The person had already walked through half the carriage and would soon reach Zhao Lei's location, but the bus showed no sign of stopping.
Li Jun's expression was grave: "Yang Jian, should we make a move? He's about to find Zhao Lei."
"Do not…"
Yang Jian shook his head.
“Zhao Lei has been gone from us for a while now. He’s very smart and has managed to hold on until now, which shows that the other person doesn’t have a way to deal with him for the time being. If we keep going, we might make some new discoveries.”
"However... we can give him a hint."
After saying that, Yang Jian gently patted the big black dog at his feet.
"go."
The big black dog growled and lunged its massive body into the tiny water droplets on the ground.
The watermark crawled rapidly along the street, then quickly extended onto the bus, and the moment Zhao Lei opened the window, it stuck to his hand.
"Success."
Yang Jian's expression relaxed slightly; it seemed that the Ghost Dream was still effective here.
Back at that internet cafe, Li Leping bypassed Guimeng and attacked him. Yang Jian was somewhat unsure of how far Li Leping would go if he lost control.
However, it doesn't seem to have reached a point where it's completely unacceptable yet.
The person was getting closer and closer to Zhao Lei, and was now less than two rows of seats away.
Yang Jian could only offer limited clues, allowing Zhao Lei to recall recent events.
Suddenly, as if he had identified his target, the man reached out and gently patted Zhao Lei on the shoulder.
The moment they made contact, the medium for the ghost dream was severed.
Red light seeped through the cracks in the wall, flickering slightly.
The surrounding scenery had changed at some point, and they found themselves in a small room.
Yang Jian and Li Jun remained in the ghost realm, quietly observing Zhao Lei's interaction with that person.
