Mysterious Resurrection: What If
Chapter 260 Comrades
Chapter 260 Comrades (Seventeen)
The seats were dusty, and the windows were mottled. Dust particles filled the air, giving it a grayish-white hue.
The team leader and his companions sat casually on either side of the narrow aisle.
The interior of the carriage was very ordinary, and apart from looking old, the items were perfectly normal.
The aroma of the instant noodles had disappeared; it seemed someone had finished them.
However, no one passed through this carriage at all.
Not only here, but Yang Jian looked through the doors and windows between the carriages and it seemed that every carriage was like this. At a glance, there wasn't a single person, let alone a ghost, on the entire train.
Li Jun sat next to Wang Xiaoming, standing at a standard military posture.
“Shen Lin, you’re the only one who’s ever ridden in this thing. Tell me about it.”
"Get on the bus, sit down, arrive at your destination, get off the bus."
Shen Lin rested his chin on his hand, his gaze constantly drifting out the car window.
The scenery outside the train was complex, yes, very complex.
One moment it's a warm spring day, the next it's a dilapidated city. The scenery keeps changing, from a desolate island to a locked room. It's as if the train is constantly shuttling between one eerie place after another.
"What you think when you board the train will definitely lead you to your destination. Last time I boarded the train because of a ghost, but I encountered a familiar place, so I got off first."
Yang Jian asked from the side, "So, we can get off the bus halfway through?"
He thought of the bus, that eerie, supernatural creation, which one absolutely could not get off unless the engine was turned off.
"bingo."
Shen Lin nodded.
"But there's a ghost in this car, though we can't see it now, and you should never see it either."
"Shen Lin, can you explain yourself clearly? Where exactly is the ghost?"
Li Jun looked serious; he hated riddle tellers the most.
Shen Lin shrugged helplessly.
“I’ve made myself very clear. The ghost is on the train, or even the entire train is a ghost. We just meet the conditions, so the killing pattern hasn’t been triggered yet. I’m sure that once someone tries to evade the fare, the environment here will immediately change.”
Wang Xiaoming kept his eyes closed, trying to rest. He was very sleepy and tired, but he dared not sleep. He could only listen to the team leaders' conversation while analyzing the situation in his mind.
Ye Zhen leaned against the train window, his gloomy eyes fixed on the ever-changing scenery outside: "This train is strange. We've passed through at least five or six different haunted places since we boarded. The intensity of this is terrifying, even surpassing Yang Jian's Ghost Domain. Shen Lin, how did you discover this train?"
"Because of my mom..."
"Your mother?" they asked in unison.
Li Jun was a little annoyed; Shen Lin couldn't stop talking about his mother.
"Why is it your mother again? Is your mother also a ghost tamer?"
Shen Lin didn't care and explained, "This 'Mom' isn't my real mom... she's a ghost."
Yang Jian remained expressionless, his ghost eye on his forehead staring intently at Shen Lin. "Do you know what you're saying?"
"Actually, I didn't believe it at first either."
A bitter smile appeared on Shen Lin's lips; the things he had experienced were indeed too unbelievable.
"But that's how it happened. In order to investigate something, I went deep into a haunted place that had been preserved since the Republic of China era. But I fell asleep there, and when I woke up one day, my mother was still at my house."
"The Republic of China?" Yang Jian frowned slightly.
"It's the Republic of China again... this unavoidable era... what exactly happened...?"
His gaze unconsciously drifted to the window as he pondered some things.
His cousin and father were both connected to paranormal events that occurred during the Republic of China era, and he might even be implicated himself. Everything he was doing now was searching for clues to uncover the hidden secrets of the Republic of China.
No, to be precise, Yang Jian doesn't care about the past. His focus is always on the future, and the era that has failed is just a source of curiosity for him.
However, the existence of the museum forced him to investigate his cousin, who was suspected to be someone who had lived from the Republic of China era to the present day.
"You were asleep in the haunted place?"
An unfamiliar voice reached everyone's ears; Li Leping's voice carried a hint of surprise.
He and Shen Lin can be considered to be the same type of ghost tamer in some ways, so he can empathize with Shen Lin's experiences to some extent.
However, in theory, even if a captain of Shen Lin's caliber encountered some terrifying ghosts, he would at most be killed, but it would be very difficult to make him fall asleep silently.
Shen Lin remained noncommittal, saying:
"That's the truth. I don't even know how long I slept. When I woke up, I was at home. Then my mom appeared. Every Monday she would send me off on this train. It was by following her that I observed some patterns."
"and many more…"
Yang Jian interrupted Shen Lin.
"You've been calling that ghost that all along? Haven't you noticed anything wrong with it?"
"So what if we find out?"
Shen Lin leaned back and changed his posture.
"In my memory, in my subconscious, it is my mother. I sensed something was wrong, but I couldn't resist anything. My real self searched for many ways to escape, and this external body was one of those methods."
At this point, a barely perceptible glint flashed in Shen Lin's eyes, as if he were carrying a hint of fear.
"Whatever you do, don't let my mom know I ran away, or she'll be furious, and I'll be in big trouble..."
Seeing that Shen Lin didn't seem to be joking, everyone fell silent. Even Shen Lin was afraid of this "mother," so what kind of ghost was she?
Yang Jian didn't press further. Shen Lin was caught up in a bizarre supernatural event, but no one could help him. There's an old saying that even an upright official finds it hard to settle family disputes, let alone the captains present.
Outside the window, the scenery changed once again.
Yang Jian's eyes widened slightly. It was a mass grave, a place he had passed by on a bus before.
The dark, foul-smelling damp soil piled up into mounds of varying sizes, densely packed together, stretching as far as the eye could see.
Some graves still had tombstones standing in front of them, but due to the distance and the dim light, only a blurry outline could be barely seen.
Just like last time, occasionally one or two grave mounds sank in, as if the bodies buried inside had been dug out, or perhaps the bodies had simply escaped on their own.
"The cemetery..."
Ghost Eye immediately began to observe.
But these burial mounds had no end in sight; the dark, foul-smelling damp soil stretched into the far reaches of darkness. A rough estimate suggested there were at least several thousand mounds—a number that was utterly terrifying.
But one thing is certain: this is definitely not any real-world location.
Everyone noticed and looked out the window.
"This number... if they all get on the bus..."
Yang Jian said expressionlessly, "It probably won't stop. The conditions for taking the train are very strict, and it's impossible for an ordinary ghost to do it."
Just as the group was observing...
"coming…"
Yang Jian suddenly said in a low voice.
Without any warning, the seemingly endless cemetery suddenly broke off in front of everyone, leaving an empty space.
