Mysterious Resurrection: What If
Chapter 50 The Butterfly Dream of Zhuangzi
Chapter 50 The Butterfly Dream of Zhuangzi (Part 5)
Yang Jian held the glass shard, stood up and looked at his mother. Zhang Fen was still asleep. Although this mother was a figment of his dream based on his experiences, Yang Jian could still feel her maternal love, which was exactly the same as the one in his memory.
After tucking Zhang Fen in, Yang Jian got up and walked to the entrance of his house, pressing his ear against the door to listen carefully to any sounds coming from outside.
Although ghosts in dreams do not possess supernatural abilities, Yang Jian is currently just a high school student. To successfully subdue an adult male, he must strike unexpectedly and win in one blow.
Yang Jian waited quietly. Suddenly, a sound of footsteps rang out, as if someone had appeared out of thin air at his door and was walking towards the entrance.
Then came the sound of a key being inserted into the lock. Yang Jian took a step back, preparing to brace himself.
A "click" sounded as the lock opened.
Before the door was fully open, Yang Jian flung it open and rushed forward, sharp shards of glass pointing directly at the newspaper in the person's hand!
"Pull!"
The newspaper was instantly torn in two, revealing a pale human face. Yang Jian was startled.
The face under the newspaper looked extremely unnatural, with an indescribable strangeness, as if it had been forcibly pieced together from the features of seven or eight corpses.
"Woof!!!"
A howling bark came from beside him, and the big black dog pounced on Yang Jian, its sharp teeth aimed at Yang Jian's neck.
The big black dog pounced the moment it saw Yang Jian stab its master, completely unaware that the person behind the newspaper was not its master.
In a split second between life and death, Yang Jian pressed the shard of glass in his hand against the black dog's teeth, but the black dog was incredibly strong, and the glass shard began to crack under his bite.
Yang Jian huddled awkwardly in the corner, trying to minimize the area of his body exposed to impact.
The black dog was huge, almost twice Yang Jian's weight, making it hard for Yang Jian to breathe.
Just then, the ghost turned around and retreated outside the door. Yang Jian's eyes widened in horror. If he were bitten to death here now, all his efforts would be in vain.
"roll!"
Yang Jian had been fighting for over a decade and had never lost. At this moment, he unleashed all his strength, slashing the black dog's face and leaving a deep, bone-revealing wound. At the same time, he kicked the black dog hard in the groin.
The black dog cried out in pain, and the force in its mouth instantly loosened.
Taking advantage of that brief opening, Yang Jian leaped towards the ghost and grabbed its ankle tightly.
The black dog reacted incredibly quickly; even though the spot where it was kicked was bleeding, it was still able to immediately turn around and pounce on Yang Jian.
But suddenly, it stopped, letting out a low growl, its eyes fixed viciously on the ghost's head.
He couldn't understand why, even though it was his master's body, it had a different face.
But its owner had given it an order: to bite it to death whenever it saw that face.
The next second, the black dog pounced, its sharp teeth instantly piercing the ghost's neck, biting down hard and tearing at it frantically.
The ghost died, but Yang Jian did not wake up.
Just then, the surrounding environment suddenly changed, and a torrential rain began to fall from the sky. Through the continuous rain, Yang Jian actually saw his father, or more precisely, the anomaly who possessed his father's memories.
In real life, it was also raining heavily in Meishan Village. Yang Xiao walked to a fishpond, plunged in, and soon swam up holding a heavy wooden box.
Upon opening the wooden box, two pale human legs were revealed. Despite being submerged in water for over a decade, they showed no signs of decay, appearing as if they had just been sawed off a corpse.
Yang Xiao continued walking in the downpour, carrying the human leg, but Yang Jian clearly saw that as he passed the fishpond, another stiff human figure was reflected on the water, exactly like the ghost.
"Dreams and reality have begun to overlap; ghostly dreams seem capable of multiplying themselves to attack different people simultaneously."
"It's just because of Lin Bei that the ghost can't distinguish between reality and dreams now, so it can only use rainwater as a medium to attack in a physical way."
"My deduction is correct. As long as I bring the three parts of a ghost in reality into my dream, my plan will succeed."
Yang Xiao also noticed the figure, but he did not stop and continued walking towards another place.
The rain was getting heavier and heavier, even becoming a downpour, and this nightmare seemed to be about to encroach upon us.
In the rain, the stiff figure was gradually approaching Yang Xiao, but Yang Xiao ignored it. He knew he didn't have much time left and continued walking quickly forward.
Yang Jian saw Yang Xiao walk into a dense forest, where a small wooden house was located deep within the forest.
Yang Xiao went into the wooden house, took out an iron shovel, and began digging next to the house.
Because of the trees blocking the view, the figure in the rain began to become incomplete. Taking advantage of this moment, Yang Xiao dug a wooden box out of the soil. It looked heavy.
Yang Xiao didn't stop; he picked up the wooden box and started walking in another direction.
After emerging from the woods, the stiff figure in the rain solidified again and slowly approached Yang Xiao.
The ghost was getting closer and closer to Yang Xiao. In the dream, Yang Jian stared at the reality reflected by the rain. He was not flustered. His father had been entangled with the ghost dream for so many years. It was impossible that he was not even prepared for this.
Just as Yang Jian had expected, Yang Xiao suddenly turned around, pulled open his coat, revealing a series of bright lenses inside, and then actually took the initiative to step forward and contact the vengeful ghost.
The next second, the instant the mirror touched the ghost, the ghost vanished into thin air.
"Lin Bei's ghost...it seems he went to see Lin Bei. That giant Buddha statue in the school was Lin Bei's doing; it possesses the supernatural power to make ghosts lose their way in mirrors, but this method is too dangerous..."
"The terror of the ghost dream far exceeds that of the Buddha statue. Right now, it's just temporarily restricting the ghost dream's movements by taking advantage of the characteristics of that mirror world. Once the dream completely covers reality, the ghost dream may invade the entire mirror world in turn. At that time, a flood of ghost dreams will appear in reality, and no one will be able to stop it."
Looking at the torrential rain before him, Yang Jian knew that this approach was extremely dangerous, but he had no other choice at the moment.
Yang Xiao had arrived at a small temple. Without pausing, he used the wooden box in his hand to knock off the heads of two statues standing in the temple.
The two heads rolled on the ground, as if they had just been chopped off, showing no signs of having been sealed away for more than ten years.
One head looked exactly like the ghost's, while the other was Yang Xiao's own head. Yang Xiao held the two heads between his sides and then walked out of the small temple.
In the pouring rain, Yang Xiao lifted his foot and gently stepped on a puddle on the ground.
Suddenly, from Yang Jian's perspective, the entire real world was reversed, and Yang Xiao was forced into a dream through a medium.
