Chapter 25 Special circumstances
Chapter 25 Special circumstances
At sunset.
The sunset painted the sky orange.
The scene at the Blackrock Town checkpoint was the same as always, with hunters and farmers queuing up to come and go.
"Routine inspection."
The guard's lazy voice rang out, "Bring out your name, origin, purpose, and identification."
As before, Marcus, as the captain, gave a brief statement, and then everyone handed over their badges.
This time, however, Zellier gave her a badge issued by the Mage's Guild, not the iron badge of the Adventurers' Guild.
The guard's expression didn't change when he saw the bronze badges of Marcus and Vales.
However, when his gaze swept over Zellir's magical emblem, a hint of surprise was clearly visible in the guard's eyes.
He looked up and glanced quickly at Zellier, as if trying to remember what he looked like, and even his gesture of returning the item was noticeably more polite.
“So you’re already a magic apprentice.” Vales also noticed Zellir’s badge.
"Yes, I got it from the Mage's Guild after we parted ways last time."
Zell suddenly became curious, "By the way... how do you upgrade the Adventurers' Guild badge? I see yours are all bronze."
"Jade, diamonds, gold, silver, copper, and iron. Iron is the easiest; you get it just by registering. After completing ten missions, you can be promoted to a bronze-level adventurer."
Vales explained casually.
"Silver rank is a bit difficult. Bronze rank adventurers must complete ten lower-level quests to advance to silver rank. Lower-level quests usually contain monsters with a [Difficult] rating, and there are also things like quest success rate involved. You'll have to ask the receptionist, Ella, for the specific rules."
"The next level up is Gold-rank Adventurer. It's usually a senior intermediate-level professional who can reach this level, and there are also some senior-level professionals. I haven't asked about how they get promoted... but I guess there are only a few in the entire Blackrock Town branch, right?"
"That's it..."
Zellier recalled the letter of authorization for this mission.
The task marked above is a regular task, not yet at the level of a sub-task.
He nodded thoughtfully. "So, does that mean I've completed two regular missions?"
"Yes, just eight more runs and we'll be at the bronze level."
Vales smiled, a rare occurrence for him.
"But you don't need to care about that. The Mage's Guild badge is much more useful than the Adventurers' Guild badge... If I were you, I would definitely only show the Mage's Guild badge when I'm out."
Back at the Adventurers' Guild, Marcus went to the front desk to hand in the quest.
"These are quest items from the abandoned cave. We cleared out a total of twenty-four slimes."
Marcus placed a bulging bag of magic cores on the counter. "I also need to report an anomaly that occurred during a mission."
Ella had just poured the magic cores into the counting disc when she heard this, and she blinked in confusion.
Another unexpected situation has occurred?
During the last Wild Wolf mission, they seemed to have encountered a juvenile Mist Demon, right?
"What exactly is it?" Ella asked.
"The description of the monsters in the mission is incorrect. We found a giant slime deep in the cave, which is the source of the water pollution."
Marcus took out another, larger magic core and the gel from his backpack.
"However, since we have defeated that giant slime, please report this unusual event to the city hall."
A giant slime rated "Hard"...
Ella was slightly taken aback.
This is considered a rather troublesome monster.
While it's not unusual to be killed by a full squad, Marcus and his group only had three people this time.
Thinking this, Ella's gaze unconsciously fell on the novice adventurer.
Zellir. When Ella registered Zellir as an adventurer, she was somewhat surprised by his mage class.
At that time, Zelier was young and inexperienced, completely a rookie.
It's truly surprising that such a newbie managed to participate in the killing of both the Mist Demon and the Giant Slime...
How much of a role did he play in these two battles? Ella couldn't help but wonder.
Among the many adventurers coming and going, Zellir seemed somewhat indifferent.
He leaned casually against the counter and yawned.
Perhaps due to the excessive use of magic, Zellir felt much more tired than usual. His lazy gaze swept over and met Ella's eyes.
He nodded slightly in greeting.
However, Ella looked away somewhat awkwardly.
“Okay… I will report to the government affairs office.” Ella immediately looked down and pulled out a paper document.
"Aren't you going to check the slime cores first?" Marcus asked, puzzled.
"Oh right... I forgot."
Ayla hurriedly picked up the pick and began counting the number of slime cores.
Twenty-four slimes, bounty of seventy-two silver coins.
Twenty-four slime magic cores, traded for forty-eight silver coins.
Giant Slime Core, traded for four gold coins.
High-quality gel, buyback price is two gold coins.
The total reward for the task is seven gold coins and twenty silver coins.
As Marcus picked up the money to leave, Ella added another sentence.
"By the way, this mission was due to an error in the intelligence provided. The government office will provide additional compensation after confirmation. Please come back in three days to collect it."
"it is good."
After receiving the bounty, the group divided the money at the entrance of the Adventurers' Guild.
"I won't go into the recruitment stuff anymore. I know you like freedom, but if you need a vanguard for the next mission, just come find me."
Marcus handed over Zellier's share of the money bag, saying, "I'll stay at the Redbeard Inn."
In Marcus's mind, Zellir's importance was self-evident.
The money he earned from these two missions was equivalent to half a year's worth of his usual hard work, and Zellier deserves a lot of credit for it.
"Okay, I'll definitely contact you if I need anything." Zellier accepted the money bag.
A total of two gold coins and eighty-eight silver coins, a rather generous reward.
Watching Zellir's retreating figure, Vales withdrew his gaze.
"Marcus, I've never seen you so humble before. He rejected your invitation to join a fixed team last time, but this time you're actively going after him?"
"That's how it is with monks."
Marcus didn't seem to care much. He waved his hand and said, "Which mage doesn't have a bit of pride? Of course, they're not willing to be bound by a fixed team."
"However, as arrogant as they may be, because of their weak physical strength, they will definitely be wary of other adventurers."
Marcus spoke eloquently, "At this time, you just need to show your gentle and patient side. It doesn't matter if you lower your stance a little. Let him know that you are reliable, and he will definitely come to you to team up next time."
Vales's eye twitched slightly.
"How come I never realized you were so cunning before..."
