Chapter 34 Glib Talk
Chapter 34 Glib Talk
In the dim twilight, four figures were walking step by step toward the village.
Behind them, huge, black, banner-like wing membranes fluttered in the wind.
The wing membrane of the giant winged bat!
The terrifying shadow that loomed over Valley Town, the fearsome presence that terrified the villagers, is now presented to everyone as a trophy.
A silence that lasted for several seconds, and then...
"We won!! The adventurer team won!!!"
No one knows who shouted it first, but the entire village entrance erupted in a huge, overwhelming cheer.
"Thank you, Adventurers' Guild! We're saved!"
"Heroes! They are the heroes of the village!"
Before Zelier and his companions even reached the village entrance, they were surrounded by excited villagers.
The death threat that had been looming for days finally dissipated, and many people shed tears of joy.
Finally, I no longer have to live in constant fear of being torn apart by swooping giant bats.
"Brave adventurers, on behalf of the whole village... on behalf of the whole village, thank you!"
Old village chief Bart was equally excited, exclaiming, "You are the heroes of Creek Valley Village!"
Marcus was a little embarrassed by the grand spectacle. He scratched his head and said, "We just did what we were supposed to do, Chief."
"You must be hungry and tired, right? Hey you... Lun'er! Hurry up and kill the chicken and slaughter the duck!"
Village Chief Bart immediately called out, "Old Henry, bring out all the wine from your cellar! We're going to host a feast for our heroes! You can stay in the village tonight!"
"No, no, no, no... no need."
Marcus quickly waved his hand to refuse, "You're too kind, there's no need to be so polite. We appreciate your kindness, but we won't keep it."
After Marcus repeatedly declined with Village Chief Bart, he finally gave up the idea.
However, Chief Bart still made things convenient for the team by having someone bring over the village's only hay wagon so that the driver could personally take them back to Blackrock Town.
Marcus couldn't very well refuse this request, and walking after such a fierce battle was indeed quite tiring, so he accepted the help of Village Chief Bart.
The horse-drawn carriage rumbled along the country dirt road.
Zellir sat in the carriage.
Looking back, the villagers of Xigu Village still stand at the village entrance waving their hands, seeing them off from afar, their faces filled with sincere gratitude.
Seeing this scene, Zellier was moved by their emotions and felt a surge of emotion.
The ordinary people in this other world really have it tough...
Any monster with a "Hard" rating could be a catastrophic disaster capable of destroying a home.
If there were no Adventurers' Guild nearby, how would they deal with the giant winged bats' incursions?
It’s hard to imagine…
Without the powerful force to change one's fate, one can only drift like duckweed in the waves, helpless and vulnerable to being destroyed at any moment.
It's really sad.
Zellier quietly clenched his fist, his resolve hardening once more.
Turning his gaze away, he noticed that Gray was also staring at the crowd seeing them off.
The setting sun casts its slanting shadows, and the sound of the pines echoes like the sea.
Complex emotions seemed to be revealed in Gray's usually frivolous blue eyes.
So Zell spoke softly.
"You also think that life is tough for ordinary people, right?"
"what?"
Zellier's words brought Gray back to his senses. He shook his head with a regretful expression.
"I was just thinking how pretty that girl in the linen dress was, it's a shame we'll never see her again... Don't you think so?"
Zellier silently turned his face away, not really wanting to respond to Gray's words.
Inside the carriage, only Vales let out a sneer that he had expected.
...The carriage successfully took the team back to Blackrock Town. Despite the driver's strong refusal, Marcus still paid a silver coin for the fare.
After handing over the mission to the Adventurers' Guild, Marcus received his payment for the commission.
Giant Winged Bat Bounty: Four gold coins.
Five giant winged bat chicks, two gold coins and fifty silver coins.
Giant bat wing membrane, three gold coins.
Giant Winged Bat Demon Core, five gold coins.
Five Giant Winged Bat Baby Cores, two gold coins.
A total of sixteen gold and fifty silver.
Zell and Marcus will each receive four gold and ninety-five silver, while Vales and Gray will each receive three gold and thirty silver.
Overall, it was another very generous reward.
Zellir now possesses a total of six gold and twenty silver.
Let's have a get-together!
Gray enthusiastically suggested, "We should have a proper celebration after the mission is over!"
“Sure, you find a place.” Marcus agreed quite readily.
He twisted his neck to loosen his muscles, clearly wanting to relax as well.
Zell didn't care. Anyway, he would just enjoy a plate of beef shank in red wine sauce and then go to sleep after returning to the Nightflower Inn. It was nice to go out and have some fun with Gray.
Vales almost blurted out his refusal; he had absolutely no interest in such an activity.
However, considering that Gray had saved him today, he acquiesced.
"Do we even need to find a place? Of course, it's 'Drunken Wild Boar'!"
Gray beamed, "Let's go! It's on me today!"
The name of the tavern, "Drunken Wild Boar," is quite bold, and the scene inside is even more so.
As soon as I pushed open the creaking wooden door, a wave of heat mixed with the smells of beer, roasted meat, and tobacco hit me.
The tavern was bustling with noise; the excited shouts of drunkards and gamblers even drowned out the bard's energetic singing.
Looking around, the scene was lively, with miners practically standing on the tables to clink glasses.
At the gambling table surrounded by a dozen people, the dice were shaken high and low, and the moment the wine cup was smashed down, everyone stared wide-eyed at the result.
There were also many casual diners chatting away, and under the influence of alcohol, they became much bolder than usual, spouting all sorts of boastful remarks that left onlookers speechless.
This is the "Drunken Boar" tavern, a favorite among local adventurers and miners!
Zellier sneezed from the strong smell, while Vales's brows furrowed into a deep knot.
Gray, on the other hand, knew the place like the back of his hand; he returned to the tavern as if it were his own home.
After a loud whistle, a voluptuous waitress in a tight-fitting short skirt immediately came forward.
"Hey, isn't this Gray? You finally remembered to come see me?"
The waitress pouted and playfully punched Gray's chest, only to be pulled into his arms.
"Hooray! My dear Marian."
Gray gave her a hard kiss on the cheek. "You have no idea, I risked my life to crawl back from the jaws of a monster just to see you."
"Glib tongue!"
“Marianne, you know best whether my tongue is slippery or not,” Gray said with a subtle smile.
"Big brother, do you have to be so wild? We're all listening." Zellier was dumbfounded.
"I can't take it anymore, I'm leaving."
Vales turned to leave.
"No, no, no... We're already here..." Zelil hurriedly pulled Vales back.
Despite being teased by Gray, Marianne wasn't particularly angry. She glared at Gray, but her expression gradually brightened into a smile.
Happy National Day everyone! Have a good night's sleep, enjoy your holiday, and have a wonderful time eating and drinking!
