Chapter 7 Luck
"Gray!" Marcus looked over in alarm.

Faster...faster!
Zellier was extremely anxious.

Although casting a fireball only takes five seconds, in such a dangerous situation, the battlefield is constantly changing, and every moment could determine the life or death of a person.

Only three or four seconds passed between the appearance of the Mist Demon and its defeat of Marcus and Gray.

Moreover, the Mist Fairy was not a brainless fool. After realizing that Zelier was gathering magic, it chose to end this round of attacks and wait for another opportunity to strike.

Thick fog surged up, concealing the fog demon's form once more.

At this moment, Zelier's fireball spell had only just begun to take shape.

"Zeril, where the hell did you lose your magic?!" Vales turned to look at Zeril, glaring angrily.

"There's too little time, there's simply not enough time!" Zellier's mind was in turmoil.

"Couldn't you have prepared in advance?"

"I'm not at that level yet!"

Spell preparation is an advanced technique for casting spells.

A surgical procedure can be outlined in advance and kept in standby mode for a long time so that it can be activated at any time to deal with emergencies.

But Zellir clearly doesn't have that ability right now.

"Tch...!" Vales's expression was quite indignant.

Marcus bent over, supporting his knees, panting heavily. The damaged surface of the round shield still haunted him.

"What can we learn from that exchange?" Marcus asked in a low voice.

“We are lucky... It should be a juvenile mist demon, with some low-level beasts embedded in it, and its physical strength has not yet developed to its full potential.”

Vales looked at Gray lying to the side and said, "If it were an adult, you wouldn't have been able to stop it with that shield. Gray should be dead by now."

The threat level of a juvenile Mist Demon is greatly reduced, at least not reaching the [Challenge] rating; at most, it's a difficult [Hard] rating.

However, due to the energy barrier on its surface, it remains a very difficult problem to solve.

"Is this a juvenile form?"

Gray struggled to his feet, wiping the blood from his lips with a grimace. "I think I was hit head-on by a siege engine."

The low, guttural roars continued to echo around, sometimes near, sometimes far, filled with a brutal killing intent that sent chills down one's spine.

"It seems this mist demon isn't planning to let us go." Marcus's expression was grave.

"The next time the Mist Demon appears, no matter how fierce his attack is, we must hold him off! If he escapes again, and we have to drag this out a few more times, we'll be doomed."

Zellir said in a deep voice, "I will find a way to release the magic as soon as possible!"

Marcus and Gray exchanged a glance and nodded vigorously.

The Mist Demon's first attack had already injured Gray.

Its destructive power is so great that it could cause casualties in the team at any time. A protracted war is absolutely out of the question; we must end it quickly!

Suddenly, a new progress bar popped up below the Technique Evolution.

Enveloped in mist, analysis progress - 1%.

Zellier was taken aback.

Is the veil of mist... a magic that protects against physical attacks?
However, the analysis progress is too slow... It's completely useless in this battle.

Zellier quickly considered a solution.

Since we can't prepare the spells in advance... then we can only try to sense the presence of the Mist Demon as early as possible and outline the spell structure before it launches its attack.

But the timing must be precise.

If the Mist Fairy hasn't appeared by the time the magic is fully charged, the Fireball spell won't last long in your palm before dissipating, leaving you in a brief vacuum period where you can't cast the spell again immediately.

Zellier calmed himself down.

His perception attribute is only 30, a standard average. In such a foggy environment, the probability of him being able to detect the other party is really low.

Where... Where are you...?

Suddenly, Zellier felt a strange sensation.

He was incredibly lucky to have managed to glean a faint connection from the thick fog.

That was the magical fluctuation of the Mist Veil!
Through the connection between the same magic, Zellir was able to vaguely sense the current state of the Mist Fairy.

Bloodthirsty cruelty, the thrill of hunting... and an intensified desire to fight!

It has begun to act!

Zellier didn't dare to delay for a moment and immediately began to use magic to outline the structure of the spell.

Sure enough, just two seconds later, the stench of the Mist Demon returned once again!

This time it chose Gray as its target.

That mage was well protected; there was no way to kill him immediately...

Let's kill this injured human first!

Then, before the mage finishes charging up, they disappear into the mist.

If we can reduce their numbers, it will inevitably cause panic, and the hunt will be basically a success!
Already injured, Gray was completely unable to confront the Mist Demon head-on, and the pain in his chest further slowed his movements.

"Gray!"

Marcus shouted.

The shadow of death loomed over them, and the Mist Demon was already upon them in an instant!

Gray jerked his head around, his pupils dilating sharply.

Faced with life and death, he had no way to avoid it and could only rely on his strong survival instinct to barely hold the longsword across his chest.

The ferocious bone claws slammed down without mercy, and with a crisp sound, the blade shattered!

Metal fragments flew everywhere, many of them piercing directly into Gray's body, and a spray of blood exploded in front of him.

But at that very moment, Zelier's fireball spell, which he had prepared in advance, was fully charged!
This was something the Mist Demon hadn't anticipated at all, even though it had only been there for less than three seconds.

In the first attack, the mage didn't show such a fast energy accumulation speed.

The intense heat dissipated the mist, and a bright fireball swept out, striking the mist demon directly!

"boom!"

Zellier's eyes widened, his expression one of intense tension.

As expected, just as recorded in the Adventurers' Guild General Monster Compendium, the Mist Fairy's energy barrier is weak against magic and battle aura!

The magic contained in the fireball spell interacted with the energy barrier, producing a "sizzling" sound. The halo dimmed considerably to a visible degree, but it did not completely disappear.

It worked!
"Get away!!!"

Marcus's reinforcements arrived just in time. His eyes were bloodshot as he roared and charged with all his might, shield in hand!
The weakened energy barrier could no longer completely block physical attacks; even the Mist Demon's massive body was knocked off balance by Marcus.

"Don't even think about escaping...!"

Vales's eyes flashed like lightning; he had been waiting for this moment for a long time.

He had been holding back his arrow, but he released it, and the arrow flew out.

Vales has elven blood in his veins, and every arrow he shoots will be blessed by the gentle breeze!

Vales used muscle memory to fire four arrows in quick succession.

"Shhhhhhh!"

Two of the four arrows pierced the kneecaps of the Mist Demon.

This is exactly what Vales wanted; he absolutely cannot let this guy escape back into the fog!
