Chapter 47 You're a Talent

The movie "Nightclub" is nearly an hour and a half long and has a family-friendly ending. Some audience members were still discussing the plot when they left the theater, seemingly wanting more.

The voice wasn't loud, so it was hard to hear what they were saying.

Qin Xuan and Liu Yifei also left the cinema with the sparse crowd. Liu Yifei, wearing a mask, said, "It's like a sketch comedy film, with one joke after another."

"My skill level is limited," Qin Xuan said self-deprecatingly.

"How can you say that? You're a qualified director. The story you told was clear, the pacing was excellent, it was very good. Keep up the good work." Liu Yifei patted him on the shoulder to encourage him.

"It's not easy to hear such praise from Teacher Liu!" Qin Xuan exclaimed with a smile.

"What? I've always been encouraging you, okay? I've never criticized you." Liu Yifei felt he was being sarcastic, so she denied it.

"Yes, then we'll invite Teacher Liu to watch the next movie and see if there's any improvement," Qin Xuan said with a smile.

As they walked and talked, Liu Yifei turned to him and asked, "Will the next one be any different?"

"It's different in style; it's a suspense film." Qin Xuan hadn't shown her the script, so she didn't know much about it.

"Okay, let me know when it's about to be released. I'll come and see it and give you my opinion, but don't come so late." Liu Yifei was in a good mood.

This was the first time she had gone to the movies at night with a man.

As soon as they stepped out of the movie theater, a gust of cold wind blew, and the two of them instinctively wrapped their coats tighter. The snow had stopped, and the dim streetlights seemed to cast a warm yellow veil over the scene.

Liu Yifei walked on the snow, making a "crunching" sound. Looking at the dim yellow snow scene, she sighed, "I've never come out to see snow at night before. And let me tell you, it's a completely different scene from the daytime."

"Twenty years from now, will you look back on today and tell people how stupid you were, getting tricked into going to the movies by some kid and even riding an electric scooter?" Qin Xuan joked, hopping onto the electric scooter.

"You're not a kid either!" Liu Yifei chuckled from the back seat, about to pat his head, but then realized it would be impolite and withdrew her hand.

"It's just a metaphor," Qin Xuan said.

"Hmm, do you ever tell people how childish you were back then, inviting a young girl to the movies and making her sit in the back, freezing cold?" Liu Yifei laughed.

"Yes, I will tell others like I'm telling a story, and I will say that person is Liu Yifei."

"Hahaha"

Liu Yifei's laughter carried far.

The electric scooter arrived at the China World Hotel in no time. Liu Yifei jumped off the scooter and said, "Thank you for treating me to a movie today. Goodbye!"

"Want to grab some late-night snacks?" Qin Xuan was still riding his electric scooter and hadn't gotten off.

"No, it's too late. Let's do it another day. You treated me to a movie, so I'll treat you to dinner instead."

"Alright, goodbye!" Qin Xuan waved, and then the electric scooter sped away.

Liu Yifei watched him disappear into the night before humming a little tune and walking briskly back to the hotel, then sneaking back to her room.

Fortunately, no one noticed, and the whole process only took one or two hours.

The next morning, the entire crew gathered around Qin Xuan, constantly asking, "President Xuan, how's the box office for 'Nightclub'?"

"Yes, how many?"

"The information hasn't been compiled yet; I'm waiting for news as well," Qin Xuan told them.

Many people asked him about the box office that night, including his uncle and aunt.

However, in those days, box office data wouldn't be available until the next morning or noon, and it wasn't always accurate or publicly released. So, it was very difficult to find daily box office data at that time; only weekly or total box office data was available.

Even so, they still need to add the phrase "according to incomplete statistics!" to absolve themselves of liability.

Seeing their anxious expressions, Qin Xuan couldn't help but say, "Didn't you all say you didn't care about the box office? Why are you concerned about it now?"

"I didn't think about it before it was released, but now that it's actually out, I realize I still care," Shen Ao said with a smile.

The others chuckled and began speculating: "How much do you think it will gross on opening day?" "50?"

"80?"

".."

Just then, Qin Xuan's phone rang. When he saw it was Ye Ning calling, he shushed everyone.

Everyone present remained silent.

"President Xuan, things aren't going well. The box office on the first day was only 376 million. If that's the case, it will be difficult to reach 30 million. I've already said that it's hard to convert online users into box office revenue," Ye Ning reported to him.

With a bit of luck, three million might last a few days, but with bad luck, it will collapse in a couple of days, and it's very difficult to get back on track.

Piracy is rampant these days, and it's impossible to suppress it.

"That's good. It's far exceeded my expectations. Here's what you'll do: add a zero and release it to the media," Qin Xuan said.

"What do you mean?" Ye Ning was completely confused.

"So you understand now that 'Nightclub' grossed 3760 million on its opening day, surpassing 'Lust, Caution,' dominating the Lunar New Year film season, defeating Hollywood, and becoming the highest-grossing film in history!" Qin Xuan's boastful words just kept pouring out of him.

Ye Ning was stunned, as were the others. Zhang Linke swallowed hard: "Our 'Nightclub' earned over 30 million on its first day?"

The others shook their heads, including Zhang Songwen, who all looked bewildered. If they really got more than 30 million, wouldn't that be a chance to get over 100 million? Just thinking about it was terrifying!
He didn't hear the specific numbers Ye Ning gave over the phone, nor did anyone else.

"This is too outrageous, isn't it? Could it constitute fraud?" Ye Ning said.

If it were reported like that, the media would be in an uproar.

"No, just add a small note below it, saying that's our expected target. That way, we'll be exempt from liability." Qin Xuan had no choice; thirty million was just too damn difficult to achieve in this era.

If they couldn't get big-budget films like "The Warlords" and "Assembly," how could they possibly get a low-budget film like "Nightclub"?

It's impossible to generate a massive public outcry without some hype, mainly because there's so much piracy these days.

If there weren't so many pirated copies, we could definitely convert all those online users.

In fact, the box office of three million has far exceeded Qin Xuan's expectations. If it stays stable for a few days, it can break ten million, and it is not impossible to reach nearly twenty million, which has already surpassed the original version in his previous life.

There's nothing I can do about it; Old Wang always has to assess his abilities.

Ye Ning didn't know what to say, so she only left with the words: "You're a talent!"

I hung up the phone and went to do it.

Qin Xuan was surrounded by excited crew members who kept asking, "President Xuan, did our movie really make over 30 million?"

"Yes, yes, is it over thirty million?"

"How could there be that many? That's just a publicity strategy; the box office was only a little over three million," Qin Xuan said.

These words immediately cooled down the excitement of the people present. They thought their movie was so amazing that it could earn more than 30 million yuan in box office revenue in a single day.

That seems unlikely.

"Even if it's over three million, we can still make a profit if we stay stable for a few days," Shen Ao said.

Even if Qin Xuan hadn't mentioned over 30 million, they would have been happy with just over 3 million, since this was only the first day, and the rest would be pure profit.

Hearing that it was over 30 million or over 3 million made him lose his enthusiasm.

"I was so excited for a while, I even figured out where to buy a house," Zhang Linke said, shaking his head sadly.

"Damn, do you think you're making a masterpiece? You want to make over 30 million in a single day? What are you thinking?" Qin Xuan pushed his head.

Everyone else just chuckled.
