Chapter 2 The Tragedy of Pinocchio

Chapter 2 The Tragedy of Pinocchio
How free it is to live without my father. On the way home, Pinocchio picked a lot of wild flowers in the fields, somersaulted on the hillside, set up dragonflies, and took a good bath in the river. He didn't return home until he was exhausted from playing.

Just as Pinocchio closed the door and was about to make another fuss at home, he heard "chirp, chirp".

"Who is talking to me?" asked Pinocchio.

"It's me. You disobedient child!"

Pinocchio turned around and saw a big cricket crawling slowly towards him.

"Who are you?" Pinocchio was terrified.

"I am the talking cricket, and I have lived in this house for more than 100 years," said the cricket.

"This house is mine today, and you'd better get out of here before I chase you away!" said Pinocchio very rudely.

"I can go, but before I go, you have to listen to me to explain a truth. That is, children who disobey their parents will be punished sooner or later!" Cricket said.

"Okay, okay. To tell you the truth, I will leave here early tomorrow morning. If my father catches me, he will definitely send me to school. I don't like reading any books."

"Poor little puppet, if you don't read, you'll be a big jackass, and everybody can laugh at you."

"Shut up, you idiot!" cried Pinocchio.

But the Cricket was not angry at all, and he continued:
"If you don't like going to school, you can also learn a craft. Isn't it great to use your hard work to earn bread?"

"I tell you, Cricket, who likes to teach others," cried Pinocchio, "I like the four arts best, and that is eating, drinking, playing, being merry, and wandering about, ha ha!"

"If you don't study, you will become a donkey; if you eat too much and do nothing, you will become a lazy pig. In the end, you will either go to the hospital or go to prison, harming yourself and others." Cricket said earnestly.

"Stop nagging, or you will be in bad luck!" Pinocchio was angry.

"Poor Pinocchio, what a pity!" said the Cricket, shaking his head.

"Why am I pitiful?"

"Because you're a puppet, and what's worse, you have a wooden head!"

This remark hurt Pinocchio's pride, and he grabbed a wooden hammer from the table and threw it at the cricket. There was only a "pop", and the wooden hammer just hit the cricket's head. The cricket "chirped" twice, and died.

By this time, it was starting to get dark.Only then did Pinocchio remember that he hadn't eaten all day, and when he thought of this, his stomach began to growl. So Pinocchio started looking for something to eat in the house. He saw a fireplace on the wall with a pot steaming on it.Pinocchio ran over to open the lid of the pot to see what delicious food was inside. However, both the fireplace and the pot were painted on the wall by Geppetto.Pinocchio was very disappointed, his nose grew a lot longer.

So, staring at a pair of hungry wolf-like eyes again, he searched every corner of the house, not even letting go of the mouse holes. However, nothing was found.

Pinocchio became more and more hungry, and his stomach hurt like a knife. So he sat down on the ground and burst into tears: "Maybe what the cricket said is right! I shouldn't have escaped from the house, and I shouldn't have fought against my father, so my father would not go to prison. If now How nice it is for Dad to be at home, he will definitely cook delicious food for me... woo woo... I'm about to starve to death..."

At this time, through tears, Pinocchio saw a white and round thing in the garbage dump next to him-it was an egg!Pinocchio was so happy that he rushed over and grabbed it.

"Oh! That's great! It's really an egg!" said Pinocchio, holding the egg carefully and kissing it. "How should I eat this egg? Should I eat it fried or boiled?"

Finally, Pinocchio decides to fry the eggs. He sets the pot on a fire over coals, cracks the eggs, and then breaks the shells. To Pinocchio's astonishment, instead of seeing the white and the yolk, he saw a little bird!
The little bird said to him, "Thank you, Mr. Pinocchio, for getting me out of the eggshell so that I don't have to work myself out. Good luck! Goodbye!" Then the little bird flapped its wings , flew out of the window.

Holding two eggshells in his hand, Pinocchio was stunned for a long time before he came back to his senses. He burst into tears:
"And the cricket is right! If I would listen to papa, I wouldn't be hungry! Oh, it sucks to be hungry!"

But it was no use crying. Finally, Pinocchio decided to visit the neighboring villages, hoping to meet a kind person who would give him something to eat.

On winter nights, people go to bed very early. It was pitch black all around, and the cold north wind was blowing.Pinocchio was walking alone on the road, very frightened.

Finally ran to the neighboring village, but the village was quiet, there was no one, not even a dog.In order to beg for a piece of bread, Pinocchio had to knock on doors from door to door. Finally, a family opened the window, and an old man poked his head out and shouted angrily:

"What are you going to do, knock on someone's door in the middle of the night?"

"Please, give me some bread, I'm starving," Pinocchio begged.

"Okay, you wait." The old man thought that Pinocchio was making fun of him, so he turned around and brought out a basin of washing water from the room, and poured it on Pinocchio's head.

Pinocchio was drenched like a drowned chicken, so he had to go back home despondently. He was so tired and hungry that he didn't even have the strength to stand up.So he sat on a chair, put his wet, muddy feet on the brazier, and fell into a drowsy sleep. He slept so soundly that he didn't even know the coals were burning his feet.Little by little, the charcoal fire burned his feet into charcoal and ashes.
