During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, with the prosperity of the Silk Road, the Mogao Grottoes flourished even more. In the era of Wu Zetian, there were more than a thousand caves.

Later, because Dunhuang stopped opening caves after the Yuan Dynasty, it gradually became neglected and abandoned.

In the 26th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty, the Mogao Grottoes, which shocked the world, was discovered. Due to Wan Qing’s corruption and incompetence, a large number of cultural relics in the Mogao Grottoes were looted, and most of them were unfortunately scattered.
