Chapter 3 How to Determine if a Potted Plant Needs Water
Some flowers require "seeing dry to see wet" when watering, and some flowers require "prefer dry to wet", so how can we know that the pot soil has become dry and needs to be watered, and how to control the watering properly? Here are several intuitive and simple judgment methods.
(1) Judging by the weight of the flowerpot. You can check the weight of the flower pot with your hand. If it is much lighter than normal, it means that it is short of water. At the same time, you can also tap the flower pot with a wooden stick or your fingers. If the sound is clear and crisp, it means that the pot soil has dried out. If the sound is low and muffled, it means that there is still more water in the pot soil and there is no need to water it.
(2) Judging by the color of the pot soil.If the surface of the pot soil is whitish, lighter than the soil below, and feels dry to the touch, water it in time. When the pot soil is dark black, it means that the water content is relatively high and no watering is required.
(3) Judgment based on the performance of the flowers themselves. If the potted flower lacks water, the whole plant will appear lacklustre. In severe cases, new shoots, leaves will wilt and droop, and even withered yellow leaves. The leaf color is not as bright and shiny as usual. If it is in flowering season, the flowers will wilt or even fall off.But these phenomena are sometimes not entirely caused by water shortage. Before watering the potted plants, it is best to conduct the above-mentioned visual inspection first, and then decide whether to water and how much to water.
