Chapter 32 What kinds of meristems include
Meristemous reproduction is the separation or division of the young plants (such as sucking buds, bulbils, etc.) or part of the plant's vegetative organs (such as walking stems and abnormal stems) from the mother plant artificially, and are planted separately. A method of propagation that forms new plants that live independently.The new plants of meristematic propagation can maintain the excellent traits of the mother plant, the propagation method is simple, easy to survive, and the seedlings grow quickly.The meristematic reproduction using the vegetative organs of different parts of the plant body is often divided into the following types.

(1) Cut off the sprouts from the rhizosphere or underground stems and plant them in ramets to form independent plants.Such as Chunlan, Clivia, Hemerocallis, Hosta and so on.In addition, hollyhock, Jerusalem artichoke, perennial phlox, etc. can produce root tillers from their roots.Some turf plants in Poaceae can also be propagated by this method.

(2) Suction buds are short, thick rosette-shaped short branches that naturally occur in the rhizosphere of certain plants or in the axils of stems and leaves on the ground, called suction buds.The lower part of the sucking bud can take root naturally, so it can be separated from the mother plant and planted separately.For example, aloe, sedum, and stone lotus in succulent plants often have sucking buds in the rhizosphere; pineapple also produces sucking buds in the axils of the stems and leaves on the ground, which can be propagated by this method.

(3) The bulbil is a special form of buds of some plants, such as the bulbil of the lily lily, which is born in the leaf axil.After the bulbil leaves the mother plant, it can take root naturally, and this habit is often used for reproduction in horticulture.

(4) Walking stems are stems with longer internodes drawn from leaf clusters.The nodes bear leaves, flowers and adventitious roots, and young plants can also be produced.Separate small plants and plant them separately to form new plants.Flowers propagated by walking stems include Chlorophytum, saxifrage, etc.

(5) Divide the bulbs The underground parts of most bulbous flowers have strong regeneration ability, and some new bulbs can be produced every year, which can be used for reproduction.Newly produced bulbs (tulips, lilies, etc.), bulbs (gladiolus, freesia, etc.), tubers (cyclamen, calla, coleus, etc.), rhizomes (canna, lotus, etc.), tubers (dahlia, Ranunculus, etc.), after natural separation and planting separately, it will grow into independent new plants.

The meristematic reproduction depends on the type of flowers, and the meristematic method and period are also different. Some are carried out during the growing season, and most are carried out during the dormant period or before bulbs are harvested and planted.
