Chapter 2 Preface
In October 2018, autumn in Beijing already had a hint of early winter coolness. In this most beautiful season, Director Chen Kaige, Director Huang Jianxin, and I received an important task: to shoot a film of Chinese filmmakers collectively celebrating the founding of the People’s Republic of China. A movie dedicated to the 10th anniversary!
When I received this task, I was both excited and apprehensive.Excited, this is a great honor to celebrate the 70th birthday of New China. It is an opportunity for me personally and Huaxia Film Company. What is disturbing is how to express the collective gift?How can we show the great changes in our motherland in the past 70 years in a way that audiences love to hear and see?After a period of discussion, we finally decided on the creative idea of ​​"historical moment, national memory, head-on collision" proposed by director Chen Kaige, integrating the fate of ordinary people into the historical background, so as to arouse the common memory of the sons and daughters of China.

After determining the direction of topic selection, how to create is still an arduous task. In the past 70 years, our motherland has undergone earth-shaking changes in various aspects such as politics, economy, and culture. Which representative historical moments should we choose?How to organically combine the historical background with ordinary people?How to realize the series connection of several stories?

Fortunately, we have the full support of 7 Chinese directors, who are a group of outstanding filmmakers with enthusiasm, sentimentality and creativity.After receiving the creative proposition, they put down the work at hand and devoted themselves to the creation of the film.They integrated their understanding and emotions of the motherland into the film, and finally presented us a film with warmth, details, and historical thickness, presenting a unique birthday gift for the [-]th birthday of New China!

When I saw "My Motherland and Me" gradually evolve from a set of words into a touching screen work, I was excited and full of emotions.I would like to thank the leaders and experts of the National Film Bureau for caring for this film all the way. I would also like to thank the film’s chief director Chen Kaige, chief producer Huang Jianxin, chief planner Zhang Yibai, directors Guan Hu, Ning Hao, Xue Xiaolu, Xu Zheng, Wen Muye As well as other actors and crew involved in the creation of this film, it was their hard work of more than 200 days and nights that made this film a reality!
This is the collective gift of the filmmakers to the [-]th birthday of New China, and it is a special creation of the filmmakers.In order to record this precious experience, we decided to compile the precious materials of the creation of this film and the words reflecting the mental journey of the main creative team into a book, dedicated to our readers, and dedicated to our motherland!
