Chapter 63: Social and financial standing

"I'm sure if uncle and aunty find out that Liu Fei Fei is going out with Long Shen, it will turn into a shit show. They would definitely think Long Shen is only marrying their daughter for her money." Lu Chen understood why people of the higher society would think this way. The disparity in social standing between Long Shen and Liu Fei is as an ant gazing at the heavens. It's too big of a gap for Long Shen to catch up even if he uses all his life.

Even right now, I'm confident that her grandfather already knows about the existence of Long Shen. But why aren't they making a move? Lu Chen knew if his grandpa sent Elder Wu as a bodyguard to protect him, Liu Fei Fei's grandpa should have sent some to his granddaughter. It would have been strange if he didn't. But does she know about their second objective?

Even though the bodyguards had to be discrete when monitoring them, Lu Chen is sure that Liu Fei Fei already knows the chauffeurs were bodyguards. However, there is a second objective that they were tasked to do besides protection. It's to send reports of their daily life to their grandfathers. Lu Chen knows this as Elder Wu is still sending information to his grandfather. It's just that the old man isn't sending anything about Liu Fei Fei to him, while the others are a different story. Lu Chen knows, but he didn't care as it's probably ordinary information. With how Liu Fei Fei acted, then she probably doesn't know about it.

While Lu Chen is mulling over Liu Fei Fei, Elder Wu is looking at him in shock. He didn't expect Lu Chen to be going this in-depth when breaking the engagement. But he still insists on using Ye Meixiu, "But young master, it doesn't change the fact that having Ye Meixiu would be an effective card to have. The original reason why the two families were so adamant about having the two marry each other was due to Lu Chen being madly in love with the girl. Elder Wu knew if they say Lu Chen is in love with Ye Meixiu, it could be a better excuse for the two of them to break their engagement.

However, Lu Chen gives a wry smile as there is an enormous dilemma in using Ye Meixiu. 

"Elder Wu, the problem with using Ye Meixiu is that even if the two of us start to date, wouldn't that be a slap to the Liu family's face?"  

Lu Chen knew that if he makes the slightest notion that he doesn’t love Liu Fei Fei anymore, he knows the Liu family will force Long Shen away from Liu Fei Fei to stop this. And this would be in a disadvantageous position for Lu Chen. One of the reasons why Lu Chen had died in the past is from not realizing that Liu Fei Fei and Long Shen had been acting covertly behind his back.

Plus, if Lu Chen says that he likes another woman even after they stop the two, it would be a slap to their face.

“And the other problem with using Ye Meixiu is her family. By bringing the girl into the mix, it will force me to choose between the two. It doesn’t matter which person I choose; we still get a dangerous enemy against us in the end.”

If we’re talking about social and financial standing, Ye Meixiu’s family, the Ye’s, are stationed in Central city. Not only that, the Ye Group have equal powers with the Liu Corporation.

If Lu Chen involves Ye Meixiu in his plans, the consequences outweigh the benefits in that situation. He could already imagine the Lu family being blown to smithereens if they became enemies of either the Ye or the Liu family.

Hearing the consequence, Elder Wu went wide eyes as he didn't think the outcome would be this severe. Elder Wu thought with the long relationship that the Lu and the Liu family had with each other, their relationship would still be stable. Yes, if their young master settles on another girl besides the Liu princess, it will strain the two families’ relationships. But Elder Wu never would have expected that it would flat out turn them into their enemy.
