Chapter 273: Suspicion On Xiaoyan

Translator: LiamHW

After a short while of being overcautious, those people seemed have found the embarrassment under such circumstance. They couldn’t help but exchange glances with each other, as if all of them were trying to probe the other’s thought in mind.

At the end there was someone coughing among the crowd, and he took the initiative to speak to Wu Dahu, “Lord Wu, have you recovered…”

Wu Dahu pondered for a brief moment, and then tilted his head slightly to expose the surgery mark on his head, and then answered slowly, “Neither good or bad as you can see.”

At the sight of the scar which was formed on the back skull of Wu Dahu, the man lowered his head to look at the scalpel Song Qinghan was holding. With a shock, he seemed have figured out something himself in his mind, and then he pointed at Wu Dahu’s brain while exclaiming, “Lord, you, you did…”

Those men couldn’t help but all show their pity in the eyes as they saw that Wu Dahu nodded as a response. And at the end they commenced chirping again getting rid of the suspicion which bothered them for a long time, “No wonder that Lord Wu has lost his memories, shouldn’t he lost them since his brain was once opened? It is already a luck that he still can talk.”

“Right, I can still see some other scars on his neck. Only Buddha knows how many pain he had suffered. Alas, it is a pity…”

“It’s already a good thing to still be alive. We’ve lost so many brothers in the battlefield, this is the real pity instead.”

“…”

Wu Dahu was still in the scene, so obviously he was able to hear their gossip clearly. After a while, he suddenly broke in, “Even though you guys weren’t in the charge camp before, you had seen everything yourself. Can you tell me some details about it?”

Those men were stunned, and then exchanged their glances in numbness again. And the next moment they vied to explain, “Lord, you were leading the troop at that time probing the way. But for some reasons we don’t know, you fell off from the horse after entering a specific area, and then you were beseted by the barbarians.”

“The other brothers in the charge camp experienced the same thing, some of them fell off either while some did not. But unfortunately, those who were still on the horse were shot to death.”

“And later on, we found that the situation seemed to be quite dire to our side. We heard from the staffs who were responsible to clean the battlefield that the spot seemed to have some ligature marks left, and it was highly possible that it was the preset trap made by the barbarians in advance.”

“…”

“In advance?” asked Wu Dahu, frowning, “So there are some other people knew the route?”

In response, those men shook their heads. And Wu Dahu came to know that they should know nothing because of their lowly position.

However, he did not care that much because he had got enough clues right now.

Song Qinghan was suturing the man’s wound, and after dressing the cut, he raised his head while asking, “Was Xiaoyan a member within the charge camp?”

Those men shook their heads again, and this time they were making a sound.

“No.”

Song Qinghan’s hands paused, and then he asked again with a strange expression, “So he wasn’t in the same team with you?”

He did not wait until those men answered and already came to know the answer, so he murmured himself dubiously, “So who is he?”

What he said seemed to be a reminder for Wu Dahu, Wu Dahu pondered for a brief moment and then came to utter, “We will know everything next time when we have a chance to meet up with Xiaoyan.”

After Song Qinghan packed up everything on the ground, the man on the ground opened his eyes abruptly. And just at the moment he noticed the existence of Wu Dahu, he cried as his pupils shrank, “Lord Wu, are… are you… Am I still, ALIVE?”

However, he eventually regained his sense after searching around and confirming the environment, and found that what he said was indeed a nonsense.

The other men who stood there nodded, while motioning the boy to take a look at Song Qinghan, “It is the credit of Lord Wu’s husband. It’s him who saved you out of danger.”

Apparantly, the boy looked indeed quite young himself. Redness was found on both sides of his cheeks, and he uttered respectfully and uneasily, “Tha… Thank you, Doctor Song, thank you, Lord Wu…”

Song Qinghan nodded as a response, and then stood up and walked to the back side of Wu Dahu. And he uttered leisurely as if he was exhorting to his own child, “Don’t try to argue with those people who tend to verbally abuse the others, let them talk and stay in peace. Everyone gets their own mouth anyway, you shouldn’t care about them too much.”

The boy scratched himself on the head awkwardly as he found out Song Qinghan had already come to know everything that he fought against the others, and then he complained in greivance in a diffident voice, “But Lord Wu isn’t and never will be in that way, I just can’t bear how the way they talk about him…”

To show his attitude as he found himself was the reason causing the trouble, Wu Dahu took the initiative to speak, “It’s fine, talking about me will never be a weapon to murder me though, but what you have suffered physically was a real real pain, wasn’t it?”

Upon hearing the comforting words of Wu Dahu, the boy nodded obediently, and then answered, “Yes, Lord Wu, I will restrain myself in the future. If I am still useful for you, Lord, I will definitely devote my life serving you like beast of burden, even a sacrifice is required!”

Since the boy had shown his great determination and loyalty, the other people who stood aside couldn’t pretend to see nothing in the scene. One among them knelt down and the others followed, and they almost cried in the same voice, “If we are still useful for you, Lord, we all brothers will spare no effort to help, even a sacrifice is required!”

Wu Dahu nodded, waving his hand in an imposing spirit, and then responded in calmness, “Rise, guys. In fact I do have one thing needed your assistance.”

Those kneeling men was utterly shocked as if they never expected that Wu Dahu would really get a demand. But since they had taken an oath just then, there would be no chance for them to be regretful. So they got no other choice but listen carefully to Wu Dahu’s demonstration, hoping that it wouldn’t be a hard task.

Instead of being anxious and mournful like the others were, the youngest injured soldier seemed to be the most jubilant one in the scene. He clenched his fists while saying excitedly, “Finally I will be able to do something for Lord Wu, tell us your demand, Lord!”

A faint smile was shown on Wu Dahu’s face suddenly, and he responded with satisfaction, “It’s nothing too difficult, I only require you guys to wander around Xiaoyan’s tent occasionally. And if you find anything abnormal, report to me.”

Those men heaved a sigh of relief after Wu Dahu’s request, and they bowed respectfully and answered, “Yes, Lord!”

And in this turn the youngest soldier was dissatisfied, he scratched his head, asking, “That simple? Only require us to watch him? Then I can do it all myself, Lord, are you suspecting Xiaoyan?”

Wu Dahu shook his head, and then answered in a deep voice, “That’s not a good idea. You guys should take turns to do that and try not to draw the others’ attention. As for my intention to do such a thing, don’t bother yourself to dig it further.”

The youngest soldier nodded obediently, knowing that it would be an act of transgressing the bounds of correctness. And he quickly shut his mouth, and saw Wu Dahu and Song Qinghan off.

Far away from the crowd, Song Qinghan asked, “Are you worried that someone is going to do something evil on Xiaoyan? Or are you concerned that he somehow is suspected?”

Wu Dahu pondered for a brief moment and then answered, “Maybe both…”

The duo finally back to the injured soldier camp and helped those injured people handle their injuries. And after the night fell, Jiayi and the youngest soldier came and visited.

Jiayi reported nothing but some trifles as Song Qinghan mentioned in the day time. But due to the fact that what he confessed was kind of sufficient, Song Qinghan did not incur any further troubles.

On the contrary, the youngest soldier seemed to get a detailed information himself because he was responsible for investigating Xiaoyan. Yet what he confessed made Song Qinghan and Wu Dahu even confused.

Xiaoyan seemed to have contacted with the team leader of the stable and his group with a hidden relation?

After the reporting guys left, Wu Dahu suddenly turned to Song Qinghan and asked, “How do you think?”
