Chapter 20: Hug

Miao Dong couldn’t care less who this person was. As if she was clutching at the last life-saving straw, she stood up with all her might and held the door. “It’s me! I’m Miao Dong. Let me out quickly!”

“Alright, don’t be afraid.” That person’s voice was as gentle as the moon. In the dark night, it turned into a beam of white moonlight that enveloped Miao Dong, dispelling the endless darkness for her.

“Zhou Feng?” Miao Dong finally recognized the voice.

Unlike before, there wasn’t coldness in his voice but suppressed anxiety, as well as gentleness that he seemed to try his best to restrain. “It’s me.”

When the door opened, he stood against the light, isolating the light from the darkness. He reached out a hand of hope to her. The sense of salvation in that moment moved Miao Dong.

She forgot her fear, forgot Zhou Feng’s persona, forgot everything. She threw herself into his arms without hesitation and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. As she cried, her tears slid into his collar.

Zhou Feng was stunned for a moment. He patted Miao Dong’s back and comforted her carefully. “It’s alright. Don’t be afraid.”

Miao Dong slowly calmed down and suddenly realized that the person she was hugging was Zhou Feng. She let go awkwardly and took a step back. “You… why are you here?”

With that, Miao Dong’s stomach growled again.

Zhou Feng smiled and said, “Let’s go. I’ll take you to eat something first.”

Miao Dong asked, “I should have been locked up for a long time. It’s already past mealtime. Where can I eat?”

Zhou Feng pretended to be mysterious. “You’ll know in a while.”

Miao Dong’s mind was filled with food, so she ignored the system prompt in her mind. “Health points +200.”

Zhou Feng brought Miao Dong all the way to the deepest part of the field until they reached a surveillance blind spot. After passing through a few scattered bamboos, they stood beside a fence.

Zhou Feng faced the fence and said, “Climb over.”

Miao Dong looked at the bare iron fence and felt troubled. “I don’t know how to.”

Zhou Feng wanted to look at her like she was a fool. He was probably thinking, which boy wouldn’t climb over the wall?

However, he still stretched out one leg and bent it slightly to form a step. “Then step on it and climb.”

Miao Dong cowered and didn’t dare to move. “No, I… I’m afraid.”

Zhou Feng: “…”

Zhou Feng had never seen such a timid boy. Without any explanation, he grabbed Miao Dong’s waist. Ignoring her scream, he pushed her up the railing and flipped over easily.

After Zhou Feng landed on the ground and steadied himself, he turned around and looked at Miao Dong, who was hanging on the railing. “What are you looking at? Come down quickly.”

Miao Dong was extremely afraid. She swallowed her saliva and wondered if she would break her bones if she fell from such a height.

“Hurry up!” Zhou Feng was impatient, but when she saw Miao Dong hugging the railing tightly and not letting go, he couldn’t bear to scold her. He changed his tone and became much gentler. “Come down, I’ll catch you.”

Miao Dong steeled her heart, closed her eyes, and jumped down. She didn’t fall or feel any pain as she had imagined. Instead, she bumped into a sturdy and warm embrace that carefully protected her.

Miao Dong looked up and met Zhou Feng’s clear eyes. For a moment, her heart raced and her face subconsciously heated up.

Zhou Feng could not understand Miao Dong. Why was he acting like a girl? Why was he blushing?

Miao Dong left Zhou Feng’s arms and followed him to the stall by the roadside.

The system’s voice sounded like it was watching a show. “Your health points +200. It seems that the host is getting better at interacting with Zhou Feng. You have to be careful not to let your heart beat too quickly.”

Miao Dong was speechless. “Why didn’t you come out when it was so dark in the equipment room just now? Now, you’re actually laughing at me!”

“Host, I’m innocent. I couldn’t activate the system mechanism at that time. I spoke, but you didn’t hear me at all.”

Miao Dong was curious. “Isn’t the activation of the system under your control?”

The system said helplessly, “Theoretically, that’s the case. For example, the situation where I couldn’t communicate with the host just now is the first time. I still have to report to my superiors to see if there’s a problem with the system.”

Miao Dong nodded and didn’t say anything else. She began to think about why Zhou Feng’s attitude had suddenly changed and become so gentle today.
