5 minutes was up in no time.

Ning Yuechan opened her eyes to hear Gongsun Zhi speaking.

Gongsun Zhi said, “The moment we came back, we sent out a messenger talisman to call for help.”

Gu Qingshan replied, “That’s strange. I was in the army camp for several days, but I never saw any human troops go by.”

Gongsun Zhi sighed and said, “There’s nothing strange about it. When we made our investigation this time, we happened to find out that there’s a traitor in the high ranks of the human army.”

“So that’s what happened!”

Gu Qingshan suddenly understood everything.

No wonder these two legendary people had been surrounded by the demon army and killed without any human troops coming forward to assist them.

Their messenger talisman had probably been taken away by the traitor long ago and nobody had known about their dire situation.

Worse still, the traitor might have even moved the human troops away so that it made things easier for the demon army.

That meant that the three of them were really in grave danger.

Gongsun Zhi looked Gu Qingshan up and down and suddenly asked, “Young man, have you joined a particular sect yet?”

Gu Qingshan replied, “I’m a Wandering Cultivator now, but if I make it out alive, I’ll enter next year’s annual examination.”

Gongsun Zhi told him, “When you go for it, you can tell them that you’re from Sacred Path Faction, and you can use my name.”

Ning Yuechan looked at Gongsun Zhi in surprise.

What did this young boy do to catch the eye of Gongsun Zhi?

The two men realized that she had woken up and looked at her with questions written on their faces.

Ning Yuechan told them, “I’ve already purged all the poisons, and my injuries are healing now.”

Gongsun Zhi replied happily, “That’s great!”

As long as she wasn’t hindered by the poisons, Ning Yuechan’s cultivation level plus the regeneration boost given by the Demonic Python’s gall bladder would help her to recover very quickly.

Ning Yuechan slowly stood up and bowed respectfully toward Gu Qingshan. “I want to thank you for saving my life!”

To be able to purge all the poisons in her body and allow her injuries to heal in such a dangerous situation was as good as giving her a new life.

Gu Qingshan quickly waved his hands and said, “We can talk about these things another time. We have to leave now.”

“Do you want to consider using a flying ship?” suggested Gongsun Zhi.

“No,” Ning Yuechan replied. “Once the flying ship rises into the sky, the demon army would be able to spot us. We’re being hunted down right now, so it would be even harder to escape if they know exactly where we are.”

Gu Qingshan cut in, “General Gongsun, you’re a strategist as well as a Formation Grandmaster among the human army. I believe you have other sources of help besides the combined troops.”

Gongsun Zhi glanced at Ning Yuechan and hesitated before speaking, “I don’t think we’ve reached that stage yet though. We do have one more very reliable messenger talisman that we could send out, but it’s one that we should not use lightly. Sacred Lady, what do you think?”

Ning Yuechan was about to speak when the ground suddenly started shaking.

Gongsun Zhi waved his sleeve, and the image of what was happening outside appeared in front of the three of them.

There were two terrifyingly huge feet coming over from afar. They could only see these two feet, while the legs and the rest of its body were hidden by the clouds, so they couldn’t see what this thing really looked like.

It was a Faceless Giant!

So that’s how it all happened!

Gu Qingshan cursed himself for being too slow and stupid to realize what was going on.

Gu Qingshan could finally see through the fog and mist and understood what had really happened.

Gu Qingshan’s expression suddenly changed as he yelled, “General Gongsun, send that messenger talisman out now! Once the Faceless Giant comes nearer, the messenger talisman won’t be able to reach its destination!”

Gongsun Zhi asked curiously, “Why won’t it reach its destination?”

Those two huge feet were coming closer and close as they spoke.

Gu Qingshan yelled anxiously, “Just believe me this once! Quickly send that talisman out now!”

Gongsun Zhi was still hesitating when Ning Yuechan suddenly slapped her storage bag and pulled out a messenger talisman that was shrouded in mist, saying a whole string of words.

“Ning Yuechan from Celestial Pole Sect already knows who the traitor among the human combined army is and has successfully located the Shenwu World. I sincerely hope that a Saint will come and rescue us.”

With that, she relaxed her hand, and the talisman rose up from her hand.

When Gongsun Zhi saw this, he sighed and said, “I’m afraid both of our sects will have to answer for suddenly disturbing the Saints.”

Saints were the most powerful cultivators in the world.

In the cultivation realm, the lowest was Qi Refining, then Foundation Building, Golden Core, Nascent Soul, Soul Transformation, and finally Sanctification stage. Those who made it to the Sanctification stage were called Saints.

There were only three such cultivators amongst the humans, and they were known collectively as the Three Saints.

Under normal circumstances, very few people had the right to contact the Saints.

Gongsun Zhi and Ning Yuechan had a messenger talisman that could reach the Saints, and this was something that their sects had used 300 years of credit to exchange for.

Their sects had given this talisman to them so that their safety would be assured as they infiltrated the demon army.

Both sides had instructed them carefully not to use it unless there was something really terrible happening.

Ning Yuechan looked at Gu Qingshan and replied, “I’ll bear all responsibility if anything happens.”

Gu Qingshan didn’t relax just yet. He watched as that messenger talisman flew into the sky and was headed out into the distance.

But there was a black shadow in the clouds above the messenger talisman that blocked the sunlight.

The next second, that black shadow suddenly came down and slapped the messenger talisman out of the sky.

That was the hand of the Faceless Giant.

Gu Qingshan immediately caught the talisman in mid-air without caring for anything else.

But the Spirit Power glow on the talisman flickered a few times before the talisman crumbled into paper bits with a loud snap.

Gu Qingshan’s mind went blank immediately. They were doomed now.

Ning Yuechan and Gongsun Zhi were behind him and their expressions changed.

“How did that happen? That’s the Saints’ talisman,” said Gongsun Zhi.

Gu Qingshan replied, “The Faceless Giant will eat anything that has Spirit Power in it. When the messenger talisman reached the sky, the Faceless Giant absorbed all of its Spirit Power and it became a useless piece of paper.”

He sighed deeply. “I’m afraid we can’t run from this.”

So besides the traitor in the higher-ups of the human army, the demons had sent a Faceless Giant to prevent the two of them from getting help. No wonder they couldn’t escape at all.

The more they struggled, the tighter the net around them would become.

This situation had reached a stage where they were now on the brink of death.

Had history just taken a different turn but was still going to follow its original course?

Gu Qingshan refused to acknowledge this. He had to do something. But he had just transmigrated, and his cultivation level was so low. What could he do?

Gu Qingshan started thinking hard.

Gongsun Zhi suddenly understood what was going on and said, “So that’s what happened. No wonder there was no effect even after I tried to use a Five Element Formation against it.”

Ning Yuechan slowly got up and stood next to them as she said, “Since we can’t run, then we’ll have to fight it.”

Ning Yuechan suddenly pulled a longbow out from her storage bag and put it in front of Gu Qingshan.

She said, “Your military bow is too lousy. This one is for you.”

Gu Qingshan was shocked. He asked, “Why are you giving it to me?”

Ning Yuechan replied to him seriously, “You killed off the demon army messenger, and you also gave me the gall bladder to heal me, so I’m giving you this bow as a small token of appreciation.”

Gu Qingshan looked down at the bow. It was half an arm longer than his military bow and looked very simple and practical, so he couldn’t see what was good about it.

Gu Qingshan just continued to look at it, but his expression became grim as he looked at it.

This longbow was not flashy at all and didn’t reveal a single bit of its killing intent.

At one glance, he couldn’t even feel a single thing coming from the longbow, as if it didn’t even exist.

If he used this bow to attack, nobody would feel it coming.

This bow had already reached a godly level of existence, and it was worlds apart from the military bow he took from the camp.

Since he was offered such a bow in such a crisis, Gu Qingshan wasn’t going to refuse it.

Ning Yuechan knew how to return the favor and picked something that was suitable for his use, so she was actually rather detailed and considerate.

This lady was a good person to become friends with.

With that in mind, Gu Qingshan took the longbow and replied sincerely, “Many thanks.”

Ning Yuechan quietly observed him and found that he did not pretend to be modest and refuse her, neither did he become overwhelmed with joy. Instead, he remained calm and collected and had thanked her very sincerely.

Ning Yuechan nodded her head in her heart. Her rating of Gu Qingshan had gone up by another level.

Her voice became gentle. “This bow is called Night Rain. My father gave it to me, so I hope you will put it to good use.”
