As The Wind Blows Your Scent To Me
Chapter 83 - Do You Think You Can Handle It?
Yuina and Hiro arrived at the city after two hours. In another half, they reached the police station within Hiro's family home's neighborhood.
People came and went, busying with their own affairs. Occasionally, the sound of men shouting to each other reverberated in the air. While most people were enjoying their holiday time, the police station was as busy as ever.
The car was park at a conspicuous spot. Neither Yuina and Hiro talked much throughout their journey.
After such a long time, Hiro was the first one to open his mouth.
"Sister, stay inside the car. I don't want Mom to trouble you with her unnecessary demand," requested Hiro as he unbuckled the seatbelt.
Even though the possibility was just a half, Hiro didn't dare to gamble with it. He had really known his own mother, inside out.
A frown marred Yuina's forehead once she heard him. She pondered for a second before asking, "Do you think you can handle it? What if you argued with her as soon as you're inside?"
"Sister, I'm a grown man. Don't worry, I won't fight with Mom," Hiro slapped his chest and righteously showed that he was reliable in this situation.
As she understood her brother's concern, Yuina didn't insist on going inside the police station with him.
She also was reluctant to come face to face with that woman.
"Alright. Just remember, don't fight with your mother no matter how unsatisfied you feel right now. This is a police station, don't create a ruckus. Wait until you two get home at the very least," Yuina sternly reminded Hiro of what they had discussed before.
"...Okay," Hiro nodded.
Once he got out of the car, Hiro rushed inside the police station. Yuina quietly waited in the car.??
At first, Hiro said she could go home first just to save herself from trouble but, Yuina rejected his suggestion. Although she didn't want to concern herself with her aunt's matter, she still had to make sure Hiro was alright.
"Huh..."
Yuina rested the back of her head against the car seat. Driving to the city nonstop had surely exhausted her. She had to let Hiro drive her back instead of continued to drive by herself. Her whole limbs aching due to that.
How could it turn out like this?
She had just been happy enjoying the trip that her husband arranged for her. Even though Ryuu was not here, Yuina was still grateful for his thoughts. She entertained herself with every suggestion given by Ryuu about the place.
But, the joyful moments were destroyed.
If Ryuu was to know about it, he would be furious once again with her aunt.
Yuina didn't know how long time had passed when Hiro finally reappeared with a frail-looking woman following him. The woman quietly followed after Hiro who kept showing a dissatisfied face.
It was obvious that Hiro had been enduring from releasing his anger.
The clock had almost shown at half-past five in the evening.
The sky would darken soon.
The woman wore a simple set of home clothes. Specks of dirt blemished on the shirt and dress. With the strays of her gray hair stuck out of the hair tie, her appearance was in a whole mess.
She was lucky that the scum man couldn't do anything more harmful to her.
Yuina got out of the car. Without sparing a look at her own aunt, she focused on Hiro.
"How did it go?"
The young man spoke through gritted teeth, signaling that he had been swallowing his frustration. Veins popped on his clenched fists.
"We're lucky that man's wife no longer bothers about him. If not, we'd be pressed charges!"
Yuina squinted her eyes, "Wasn't it self-defense?"
Hiro sneered. His voice was full of malice, "With power, everything is possible. Since his rich wife is eager to divorce him, that man could only bark. Enough, Sister. You must be tired. Let me send you home first."
"Okay," She agreed immediately.??
Yuina exchanged seats with Hiro as this time, she sat on the co-pilot seat. From the start to the end, she didn't pay any attention to the middle-aged woman who had been staring at her intently.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Hiro looked at his mother who remained unmoved on the ground, "Get inside. We're going home."
Yuina's aunt, Aunt Shigeko could only follow what her son said as annoyance and impatience tinged his voice. Hiro had done well by not lashing out in the police station. She shouldn't provoke him further. Thus, she silently opened the door and sat at the back seat of the luxury car.
The seat under her felt velvety, so unlike the rough patches of leather of the old family car of hers.??
Aunt Shigeko bit her lower lip. Her eyes went to the young lady who sat next to her son.
She felt awful because her niece didn't even give her any comforting words from the moment she stepped out of the police station. Did she no longer put her, this old auntie, in her eyes?
Who did she think she was? Why couldn't she show more concern for her only aunt? Was it because she had been showered by luxury by that man so she didn't put her extended family in her mind anymore?
The delusions heightened in the middle-aged woman, making her more annoyed by Yuina even though the latter didn't really do anything to offend her.
"...Yuina, why didn't you go with Hiro inside the station earlier? You just let your brother deal with the matter alone? Why can't you offer him help when he's younger than you?"
The self-righteous questions made both Yuina and Hiro uncomfortable. Before Yuina could react, Hiro glanced at the back with an infuriated look.
"We don't need Sister Yuina to clean up your mess. If you just listened to me, this matter won't even happen!"
Hiro was ashamed of how embarrassing his mother would act to his sister. She often acted as if Sister Yuina owed their family.
Sure. His mother was the only aunt of his sister and she took care of her niece after the death of Sister Yuina's parents but, aside from giving Sister Yuina a place to shelter herself, there was nothing else his mother had done to her.
"Cut all ties with Dad's friends! Every one of them is just snakes! This matter would happen again if you won't listen to me!"
Hiro continued to vent out everything that he swallowed earlier. Yuina just let him be. There was no pity left to her aunt. She really deserved a scolding from her own son.
"This time, you're lucky the police regarded your act as self-defense and that man's rich wife would divorce him. Do you think you'd be safe if his rich wife proceeded to side with that scum? You'd be sent to jail like Dad! Do you want that!"
"Hiro! How could you talk like that?"
The meek-looking woman snapped once Hiro touched the forbidden topic. Her eyes reddened in fury.
"I just spoke the truth. What's wrong with that?" Hiro wasn't one to back down easily.??
"Humph! You unfilial son! You only know to talk bad about your own father! How could you degrade yourself like that?"
"You really... Ah! Up to you, Mom!"
Hiro almost shook the steering wheel as his vexation reached another level.
Knowing that her son would only anger her, Aunt Shigeko darted her eyes to the outside of the windows. Her face twisted in indignation and heartwrenching sorrow at the thought of her son didn't side with her.
In the end, the backseat was filled with the sound of a person crying.
Yuina got a headache just by listening to them arguing but she still didn't say a single word to them. If she let even a mere word out of her mouth, her aunt would immediately latch on to her and accuse her of everything.
Hiro glanced at his sister. He pursed his lips tight as he wanted to coax her but, with his mother in the car, it would only burst into another war of words.
In the end, both Yuina and Hiro were quiet as Aunt Shigeko was still crying alone in the back seat. No one paid her unnecessary attention.
Fortunately, nothing else happened.
Hiro safely sent Yuina to her residential complex. After taking her suitcase and exchanging a few words with Hiro, Yuina immediately entered the lobby without looking back.
Her action further infuriated Aunt Shigeko but, because she was afraid Hiro would be mad at her, she could only mumble her dissatisfaction under her breathe.
"Look at her giving me no face... Just because she's so wealthy right now. It is hard to help her own family?"
Hiro heard that but he didn't have the energy to deal with his mother. It was better if he just pretended that he didn't hear anything.
What happened today had disrupted their original plan.. Either he liked it or not, Hiro knew he had to call his brother-in-law in private and tell him about the disappoinment that his sister had to bear.
