Pusup stared blankly at Miraz's corpse, feigning bewilderment for a few seconds before shouting, "Betrayal! They shot the king! They murdered our king!"
After shouting this, he immediately mounted his horse and, escorted by the general, galloped towards the Tanmo army.
General Sopi rode on horseback when Miraz was defeated, heading towards the Tanmo army ahead of them.
Peter, Edmund, and Caspian were also dumbfounded by what they saw. They knew Miraz would die today, but his death seemed too hasty, and they were almost caught off guard.
"Prepare for battle!" Peter shouted. "Go now!"
Caspian immediately mounted his horse and stood with the centaur leader, preparing to strike back as planned.
At the very top of the fortress, Aaron cocked his rifle and aimed at the catapults in the Tanmo army's formation, while on the lower level, Chumbukin led a squad of archers, ready for battle.
Kings Peter and Edmund stood side by side at the forefront of the Narnia, boosting the morale of the troops.
"Take up your weapons, Tanmomen!" Sopi shouted. "Take up your weapons and fight!"
The flag signalman waved a black flag, ordering the projectile vehicles to launch an attack.
"put!"
A row of round stones shot out in unison, flying towards the bunker from a distance of hundreds of meters.
Bang! Bang! Bang...
Gunshots, like muffled thunder, rang out one after another, and the round stones exploded in mid-air.
Countless large and small stones fell from the sky, disrupting the orderly military formation and causing quite a commotion.
But that wasn't the end of it; after the boulders shattered, gunfire erupted again.
With each gunshot, a catapult broke in half.
The Tanmots brought seven catapults, which Aaron wiped out in one fell swoop.
"What's going on?" Pusup asked in a panic.
“I suspect it’s the magic of the King of Ancient Narnia,” the general said.
During this time, he also took the opportunity to learn about the history of Narnia. Magic does exist, otherwise Caspian could have summoned the king of ancient Narnia with just a horn.
"Are you kidding me?"
"That's the only plausible explanation. We can't exactly say that all our catapults are malfunctioning!"
"Maybe!" a general chuckled dismissively. "There are rats among the Narniaians. It's not surprising that they come at night and sabotage our catapults when we're not looking."
“You’re right.” Pushupi calmed down. “It’s definitely a Narnia’s little trick. They’re sorely mistaken if they think this will scare us.”
"But how do we explain the sound?" The general was still somewhat worried.
"That's too easy, isn't it?" Pusuppi sneered. "General, you're worrying too much."
"Don't you realize that if those four children—no, those four kings—had such abilities, the battle with our king just now wouldn't have been so perilous, and we wouldn't have been able to return to our camp safely."
Upon hearing this, the general thought it made sense and nodded slightly, saying, "Sir, shall we launch an attack now, or wait for the new catapults to arrive?"
"Let the soldiers injured by the stones rest in the rear first. Once they've recovered, we'll launch an attack immediately," Pusup said calmly. "I won't give them time. Destroying the catapults only proves they're all bark and no bite."
On the other side, Peter and Edmund couldn't help but swallow hard when they saw the catapults fall, silently giving Aaron a thumbs up in their hearts.
"That's really good marksmanship," Edmund exclaimed. "And the rate of fire is incredibly fast, with almost no pauses."
“His family sells arms, after all, so it’s only natural that he has this skill,” Peter said. “But he just emptied his sniper rifle of all the bullets, which means…”
“That’s not something we should be thinking about right now,” Edmund interrupted. “Let’s stick to the plan and win this battle first.”
Peter nodded. "Hopefully, Lucy and the others can find Aslan soon!"
A dozen minutes later, the Tanmo army had finished regrouping.
The general drew his longsword. "Cavalry, attack!"
Thousands of fully armed cavalrymen charged toward the fortress at the same time, their stampede causing the ground to tremble slightly.
Peter turned and gave Caspian a wink, and he and the centaur leader immediately went inside the bunker.
After a day and a night of hard work by the Narnias, the bunker was filled with dry firewood and straw soaked in kerosene, and oil drums of various sizes were placed in some inconspicuous corners.
Half of Narnia's army was gathered underground. Caspian quickly rushed to the front of the troops. "Narnia, attack!"
Instead of rushing out of the bunker, they quickly moved underground in front of it.
"one two three..."
They counted from one to ten; this was the time they calculated.
At that moment, directly above them was the Tanmo cavalry launching their charge.
“Now!” Caspian roared.
The powerful races among the Narnia, including the bulls, sheep, centaurs, and giants, all joined the fray, smashing the stone pillars supporting the ground as they charged.
As the stone pillars broke one by one, the ground collapsed.
The Tanmo cavalry were one-third of the way in, and the remaining two-thirds also braked suddenly to avoid falling into the huge pit.
Trump saw an opportunity and ordered all the archers to fire.
A volley of arrows made matters worse for the already badly wounded cavalry, and many soldiers who were still trying to climb out of the pit fell back in.
"attack!"
Peter roared, and all the Narnias outside the bunker charged forward.
Meanwhile, Caspian led half of the Narnias through two dug tunnels to the rear of the cavalry.
The total number of Narnias was less than that of the Tanmors, but far greater than that of the Tanmor cavalry.
Ambushed midway, attacking from both sides, and with a significant numerical advantage, the cavalry was caught off guard and unable to launch a counterattack for a time.
At the very top of the fortress, Aaron put away his sniper rifle, looked at the battlefield below with a meaningful gaze, and silently mourned for the cavalrymen for a second.
Some were shot to death by arrows, some were bitten to death by tigers and leopards, some died by swords, and some were beaten to death by giants. The most tragic were those who were killed by rats, which was definitely a major failure in their lives.
"How tragic!" Cornelius exclaimed.
"They're lucky; at least they got a quick death," Aaron said irritably. "I was just about to ask, what are you doing here?"
“Where else can I go?” Cornelius retorted matter-of-factly. “I’m old and in poor health. Forget about fighting with a sword like them. Even if you gave me a crossbow, I wouldn’t kill anyone!”
Aaron's face darkened. "Do you really want me to put this out in the open?"
Why do you, you old codger, insist on following me?
"It's safe," Cornelius said sheepishly. "I was originally planning to hide deep in the forest tonight and come out after the war is over."
But Caspian suggested I go with you, saying that was the only way to ensure my safety.
"Heh!" Aaron sneered. "He'll definitely be a qualified king in the future, using others without any qualms whatsoever."
"He also asked me to apologize to you on his behalf, since he didn't discuss it with you beforehand." Cornelius's voice was weak, and Aaron might not have been able to hear it clearly if he hadn't had excellent hearing.
Snapped!Snapped!Snapped!
“Beautiful.” Aaron gritted his teeth and said indignantly, “It was absolutely right not to consult me beforehand, because I would have refused this request without hesitation.”
I've already done more than enough by helping him deal with those heavy weapons; now I'm also helping him protect an elderly, overweight man. Doesn't he feel ashamed?
"I'm a professor, after all; I should at least give you some face."
"Pah! How dare you say that? The fact that you're here already proves how thick-skinned you are." Aaron retorted without any politeness, while secretly thinking to himself, "Every world has one or two old bastards with bad tempers."
Cornelius's lips twitched slightly. "Caspian had no other choice."
Aaron rolled his eyes and took out a light sniper rifle from the magic circle. "I'm in a really bad mood right now. Do you think it would be okay if I secretly shot him?"
Cornelius's expression changed drastically. He had witnessed the power of this weapon firsthand; Caspian would be crippled even if he survived a single shot.
"Please don't, I'm leaving right now."
"forget it!"
"No, as long as you don't lay a hand on Caspian, I will absolutely not hold you back."
"Just kidding," Aaron shook his head. "It's just protecting one more old geezer, it's not difficult for me."
"Then what is this?" Cornelius looked at the sniper rifle in Aaron's hand, his face showing obvious suspicion.
“The previous gun was out of bullets, but this one still has some,” Aaron said calmly. “Although the Tanmo army has lost its catapults, its heavy crossbows are still intact.”
"I have to destroy that thing, otherwise a volley of crossbow bolts will kill a lot of our men."
As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of orderly footsteps rang out.
Pusuppi raised his longsword, and a large number of Tanmo infantrymen pressed forward.
“Um…should we go somewhere else?” Cornelius asked worriedly. “The second phase of the plan is about to begin, which means the fortress we’re standing on will soon become a furnace.”
"No need. It would only take me a blink of an eye to leave here," Aaron said calmly, then used his scope to search for a sniper target.
Peter and Caspian also noticed the movements of the Tammo army. They exchanged a glance and nodded in tacit agreement.
The second phase of the plan is to lure the infantry into the bunker. Doing this is neither easy nor difficult.
There should be at least some fighting before retreating; if you run away without fighting, anyone would find it strange.
With a wave of his hand, Caspian sent a dozen griffins carrying boulders and archers flying toward the Tanmo army.
Seeing this, Pusupi remained calm and ordered his soldiers to deploy heavy crossbows.
Each ballista was equipped with several rows of huge arrows and required five people to push it.
The archer aimed at the approaching griffin, "Release..."
boom!
Before the word 'arrow' could be uttered, a muffled thud came from afar, and a crossbow cart instantly disintegrated.
Click!
Aaron quickly pulled the bolt, ejecting a spent cartridge.
A bright green magic circle appeared on the scope, through which Aaron could clearly see the sniper target.
boom! boom! boom!
After a series of gunshots, all the ballistae were destroyed.
