Suddenly, one of his fellow cultists behind him delivered a punch that sent a front tooth flying. The rest of the cultists were stunned, completely unprepared for this turn of events.
Then, the black-robed man raised his hand and shouted something like "Eternal Radiance." Suddenly, a terrifyingly green light burst from his hand, and countless green particles materialized into a giant palm. The palm swept across the area with overwhelming force, instantly wiping out a large portion of the cultists.
The entire team was stunned.
Damn it.
This is a top-tier spy who's infiltrated!
"There's a mole!"
The believers reacted hastily.
Some high-ranking cultists quickly activated their magic, unleashing a barrage of spells, orbs, and flames. But the spy simply waved his hand, erecting a transparent shield that instantly blocked all the attacks.
With a wave of his hand, two machine guns materialized in mid-air, automatically aiming and firing, unleashing a burst of bullets to both sides.
"Sorry, but this disguise of mine still has its uses." The spy chuckled like a villain as he directed the green light to wreak havoc. "So now that you've seen it, none of you are going to escape."
Taking advantage of the chaos, Adriana turned and ran, disappearing into the depths of the forest.
While running, I kept finding it unbelievable.
Once is one thing, but to encounter a mole within the enemy ranks twice in a row. And that ability just now seemed familiar; she vaguely recognized it from television, somewhat resembling the Green Lantern from Beach City, a member of the recently formed Justice League.
If it really is that person, then he is a top-tier figure. Especially now, after the Justice League was founded in its early days and successfully repelled Apokolips, its members are all regarded as gods by the outside world.
With such a big shot—and possibly more than one—infiltrated, how come this lousy organization is still not finished?
After running for a while, when she stopped to rest, Adriana realized that she seemed to have made a critical mistake.
Just now, I was only thinking about escaping this troublesome place as quickly as possible, and in my panic, I didn't know which way to go. Now that I've calmed down and looked back, I realize how serious the situation was.
She is lost.
There were no signs or markers in the forest; trees stretched out in all directions, and everything looked the same. Adriana ran frantically for a while before realizing this serious problem.
But looking around at the terrain, surrounded by earthen slopes, he found himself in the center of a depression. If those people had set up an ambush here...
Wait, stop.
She quickly pulled herself back to reality and began muttering to herself.
"I won't tell, don't even think about it. Don't try to lure me into a trap; I definitely won't plant a flag this time."
However, as it turns out, sometimes things don't go according to human will. Sometimes what's meant to happen will happen.
Just as she was thinking this, another group of people suddenly appeared from the side. They were all dressed in black robes and stood menacingly in front of her.
“Dr. Adriana, I’m afraid you’ll have to come with us.”
"No, are you still coming?"
Adriana looked miserable.
She raised her hands, observed and assessed the situation, and estimated that the probability of her running away and escaping was probably zero.
So what is the probability that there is a mole among the enemies in three consecutive waves?
Thinking of this, she tentatively asked in a low voice.
"That was just a casual remark. But if a master is prepared to lend a helping hand, now might be a good time."
The believers looked at each other in bewilderment.
"What the hell are you muttering about?"
Then, surprisingly, a man in black robes walked out from the group of people.
He coughed twice to draw everyone's attention, and then spoke.
"Excuse me for interrupting, but I regret to inform you all of something."
All eyes turned to this fellow believer, waiting to see what he was about to say.
Then he slowly raised his head, smiled, and a faint blue arc of electricity flashed across his body.
"You are all dead."
As soon as he finished speaking, an electric arc flickered.
In Adriana's vision, she was almost unsure if the man had moved at all. She only felt that his figure seemed to flicker, as if the image had distorted. But when she blinked, she saw that he seemed to be standing still, without moving an inch.
But the next moment, the people behind him were a whole group of believers.
Everything collapsed.
They fell almost simultaneously, their movements perfectly synchronized, like a neatly arranged square formation. It was as if someone had attacked each of them at the same instant.
The order in which they were attacked differed, but it happened so fast that their bodies didn't even have time to react before they were already down.
Adriana was so shocked she couldn't close her legs.
So fast.
So strong.
Naturally, she quickly thought of the Justice League, which also had a superhero known for his speed, and was called the fastest man in the world.
"Are you...The Flash?" Adriana asked.
"The Flash? No, I'm not. I'm just a passerby."
Shen You took off his black robe—he disliked the color scheme and the aura it carried.
He telepathically communicated over the channel: "Target under control, safe. I'm here."
"Received. I'm almost done on my end, just need two more fire-breathing cultists," Flash replied.
“I’ll be done soon too,” Green Light said.
Everyone responded. Just half a minute later, the group of top undercover agents had all gathered at Shen You's coordinates.
Adriana was dumbfounded as she looked at the cultists before her, some of whom could flash, some could fly, and some who could simply burrow underground and emerge.
For some reason, she suddenly felt a little sorry for the organization that had been infiltrated.
What kind of organization is this, and what merits do they possess to be targeted by such a group of powerful figures?
"Alright, everyone's here. Now, as you can see, someone's trying to cause you trouble, and we're here to help."
Shen You looked at Dr. Adriana and said gently.
"So why don't you share why you're being targeted, so we can decide how to help you get out of this mess?"
“What reason could you possibly have? Even if you say so, I’m not sure,” Adriana said blankly. “If we have to talk about something recently, could it be that tomb?”
"tomb?"
Several people looked at each other.
"What tomb?"
"An ancient tomb, just excavated these past two days. We found a batch of very valuable artifacts inside, remarkably well-preserved. Experts from the Sky Eye Society pointed out that some of them might be related to some magical legends. This trip was mainly to escort those items."
Even if that were the case, shouldn't these people be interested in those artifacts? They're all in the car, not on me. Why are they chasing me?
Adriana was increasingly puzzled. But then, a thought flashed in her eyes.
"If I had to say something, perhaps it's because of those words?"
"What script?" Shen You asked.
"The inscriptions in the tomb are in ancient Kandak script, which few people can recognize now. Even in our circle, not many people study it, but I am a native Kandak, and I can read those words. Just like the words inscribed in the most prominent place when you enter the tomb."
“What’s engraved there?” Batman asked.
It's engraved there.
Adriana paused, her expression unconsciously becoming solemn and dignified.
"'Tess Adam rests here.'"
Chapter 275 Misunderstanding
Unlike the Justice League, who had never heard of the title "Tess Adam," Shen You knew the moment the title appeared that this was about something.
Just like Marvel created the fictional, high-tech, black nation of Wakanda, DC also has a similar place called Kandak. This place is also an ancient civilization with a long history, and it produces a very powerful metal, a magical metal called "Eternal Alloy".
However, the Kandak weren't as lucky as the Wakanda people. They lacked advanced technology and even sovereignty, remaining in a colonial-like state for many years. This situation only improved when their destined king returned from five thousand years of time.
That's Tess Adam, also known as Black Adam.
Black Adam was chosen as the successor to the wizard Shazam, possessing the power of six gods and able to transform into a near-invincible magical superhero through the "Shazam" spell. However, his rampage made the wizard Shazam regret his choice, and Shazam defeated him and sealed him deep within Kandak.
In almost any parallel universe and any version, Black Adam is eventually exhumed from the tomb and restored to the throne as the new monarch of Kandak. Some call him a cruel and tyrannical dictator, but there's no denying that he drove out the colonists and brought peace to the country. People lived in peace and prosperity, and he was the people's favorite; they loved and were willing to rule under him, and Black Adam always put his country and people first.
So it's no surprise that Western countries, which constantly preach about freedom and democracy, see him as a thorn in their side and have tried more than once to organize armies and superhumans to overthrow his regime, but unfortunately, they are too powerful to defeat him.
Clearly, the archaeologist's team unearthed the tomb of Black Adam, the place where he was sealed.
Shen You hadn't seen it in person, but if it's part of the DCEU movie setting, there's more than just Black Adam there. In the movie, Black Adam has a nemesis named Shabak, a super-demon almost as powerful as him. The crown needed to awaken the demon is sealed in Black Adam's tomb.
In a way, the scene where Black Adam's tomb is discovered in the movie is somewhat eerie. There are no mechanisms or traps; the devil's crown hangs swaggering in the center of the space, and the incantation to awaken Black Adam is brazenly carved into the ground.
Therefore, based on this result, we can infer that the old wizard who sealed them away back then might have had this mentality.
Old Wizard: I think I should throw the Demon's Crown into this cave. You can walk straight through it without any traps, and the surrounding area is all flat rock, which makes it easy for me to carve detailed instructions on how to use the crown on the stone, in case someone finds this thing in the future and doesn't know how to use it.
Oh, and I need to make sure the crown floats in the spotlight, looking like a grand prize, just in case a StarCraft player walks in and can't find it. Oh, and I also need to hide it in Tes Adam's tomb, along with the spell to break Adam's seal. Ideally, I should design a foolproof spell, the kind that works just by being said, in case a Muggle who doesn't understand magic walks in.
In short, it's hard to imagine what the old wizard was thinking when he created this seal. He explained everything in detail, from the initial guidance to the unsealing instructions, making it even more detailed than the instruction manuals for some products today, as if he was afraid that someone wouldn't understand it or be able to break the seal.
It's hard not to question the true intentions of the seal-maker upon seeing this seal.
In any case, the person was successfully saved. Adriana had already heard of the Justice League, and now that she had been rescued, she trusted the heroes quite a bit, and without much suspicion, she revealed the location of the tomb.
The Blood Cultists' target is most likely this tomb, perhaps they're looking for new allies, but whether their target is the demon Shabak or Black Adam is hard to say. Both belong to the dark magic faction, and even Black Adam is a morally ambiguous character.
After some thought, Shen You decided he might visit the cemetery when he had time, or go back and ask the old wizard. He hoped the wizard wasn't so senile that he couldn't remember his mindset when he set up this inexplicable seal.
But first of all, since the target has escaped, they definitely need someone to take the blame.
