She suddenly realized that if the boy had been in the nutrient pod all along, he might have witnessed the mutation that his loved ones had suffered.

"Feel sorry."

After a brief silence, she slowly began to speak.

"fine,"

He slung his knight's sword over his shoulder and smiled at Lena. "Let's go meet the 'client' who has been hiding behind the scenes all along."

The two left the clinic and went in different directions.

Cloud District Mayor's Office

An elderly man with a full head of white hair sat on a long wooden chair under the spacious balcony, flipping through the books in his hands, the warm breeze of the setting sun blowing through his hair.

Boom—

A slow knocking sound came from outside.

"Please come in."

The old man said slowly.

"Mr. Mayor."

A young man carrying documents walked into the office and looked at the old man sitting on the balcony.

"Oh, you've come."

The old man put down the book he was holding, took out a pair of reading glasses from the side and put them on, then picked up a thick printed document from the coffee table in front of him. "This report of yours is no good, son."

The young man paused for a moment, then quickly walked over. "Is there a problem? Is there a data error?"

"No, these data are very good."

The old man looked at the document and slowly turned the pages.

"Where is the problem?"

The young man stood somewhat bewildered in front of the old man.

The old man waved his hand, gesturing for the young man to sit opposite him, and then he spoke slowly.

"The data in your report is all sourced from the city government's database; they're perfect."

"But son, you said in your report that the total wealth of Winter City has been growing over the years, so we should appropriately increase the consumption tax rate on basic consumer goods to increase the city government's fiscal revenue."

"Then use the extra fiscal revenue to subsidize and stimulate mining, thereby further increasing total wealth."

"This policy cannot be fully implemented."

"But according to the data, we should be able to implement this policy. Are there any inaccuracies in these data?"

The young man seemed somewhat bewildered.

"No, these data are all real, but they are not the complete truth."

The old man looked up from the report in his hand and at the young man in front of him. "Young man, have you ever left the Cloud District?"

The question made the young man's face stiffen, and he slowly said, "I've been to the Akka district."

"Entertainment venues?"

The old man then asked.

"Ok!"

The young man lowered his head slightly.

The old man lowered his gaze and placed the report in his hand on the table.

"Your father recommended you for a position as a secretary in the city cabinet, but I suggest you still go to the Akka District and the Storm District, go deep into every street, and ask everyone about their lives."

“You’re going to inherit your father’s constituency, so at the very least, you should go and meet your constituents.”

"Yes,"

He nodded emphatically. "Then, Mr. Mayor, I'll take my leave now."

He slowly got up and quickly left the office.

A moment later, another man with a straight posture entered through the small door on the other side, stopped beside the old man, picked up the report in front of him, and slowly flipped through it.

"The bulk of the consumption tax on basic consumer goods will ultimately be passed on to ordinary people. Since most of the mining industry in Winter City is controlled by United Industries, increasing the consumption tax to subsidize mining is just taking money from ordinary people to subsidize United Industries."

The old man took off his reading glasses and placed them on the coffee table. He gazed at the distant sunset, his eyes lowered, and remained silent.

Just then, the middle-aged man's bracelet vibrated. He glanced at the information on the bracelet, looked up at the old man, and said, "Mayor, Miss Veri is here. Should we let her in?"

"Need not,"

The old man slowly lifted his drooping eyelids, and for the first time, a hint of emotion flickered in his cloudy eyes. He leaned on the back of the chair, struggled to his feet, and said hoarsely, "I'll go pick her up."

A gentle breeze from the balcony ruffled the old man's white hair. The fiery red sunset gradually sank into the horizon, and wisps of dark clouds drifted in from the distant horizon, spreading across the sky.

Acre

Sunset and moonrise.

As night once again enveloped the city, a cool wind seemed to rise from the sky.

Dark clouds once again blanketed the sky, obscuring the last starlight in the night.

The black sedan slowly pulled up to a stop on the corner of the street. Lena, sitting in the driver's seat, raised her wristband and glanced at the time.

7:30 p.m.

There was still half an hour until the agreed time.

There were no streetlights at this alley corner, and the pitch-black night swallowed everything around it.

She glanced back and saw a decent-looking apartment building in the middle of a row of buildings at the end of her line of sight.

That's Norvis's house.

At this moment, spies of the Eternal Secret Sect can be seen everywhere, densely packed around that apartment building.

She is currently located on the outermost edge of the Eternal Secret Sect's surveillance circle.

She looked away, reached into her clothes, squeezed the test tube inside her clothes, then slowly released her hand and looked into the dark alley.

······

The tightly closed window was slowly pushed open, and the thinly dressed boy flipped over and jumped in through the window.

The blood-red butterfly folded its wings on his shoulder.

He Ao glanced at the dark living room, then quickly walked to his room.

Although the spies of the Eternal Cult were very well-organized, it was easy for him, with his spiritual vision, to distinguish where there were extraordinary individuals and where there were just ordinary spies.

It's much easier to avoid areas with a high concentration of superhumans and evade ordinary sentries.

Of course, he couldn't completely avoid all the sentries; the sentries on the inner part of the building were much denser. However, all the sentries who attacked him were silenced forever.

The infiltration was safe, at least until these outposts were discovered.

In the dim, gray light, He Ao quickly found his wardrobe, then took out a sweater and a thick jacket and put them on, changing out of his hospital gown.

Once all clothes are put on

Then, he reached out and opened the innermost part of the wardrobe.

A soft texture appeared in his palm; it was a thick red scarf.

The stitches on this scarf are not neat, clearly indicating that it was hand-knitted.

After a brief silence, he put the scarf around his neck.

Then he went back to the living room, turned on the coffee machine, and quietly brewed coffee in the dark.

-

At eight o'clock sharp.

The elevator doors opened, and an old man with dark skin, who looked like a wandering merchant from the wilderness, slowly appeared in the silent corridor.

Behind him, in the elevator, lay the corpses of several white-robed priests, their blood flowing down the elevator car floor and into the elevator shaft.

There were still quite a few white-robed priests waiting in the corridor.

The moment the old man appeared, they rushed over without hesitation.

The old man slowly moved forward, looking at the priests rushing towards him. With each step he took, a golden spear would appear in the void beside him.

The sharp spears easily pierced the white-robed priests' golden armor, penetrating their bodies, and the splattered blood stained the clean floor a bewitching red.

Finally, amidst the sight of one corpse after another lying on the ground, the old man slowly came to a stop in front of a house.

Then he looked up at the surveillance camera above him.

The next second, a dazzling golden light burst from the surveillance camera, shattering the entire camera system instantly.

The old man lowered his head and looked at the smart lock in front of him.

He raised his hand, ready to break the smart lock.

'drop--'

But with a soft click, the smart lock opened automatically, and the door opened behind it.

The old man paused for a moment, then looked up into the room.

Bright lights were turned on in that instant, illuminating the quiet living room.

The boy, wearing a jacket, sat on the sofa with two cups of hot coffee in front of him, one in front of him and the other in front of the empty seat opposite him.

He looked up, a smile on his face, at the old man standing in the doorway.

"Welcome, Mr. 'Leader'."
